Absolutely outstanding and stellar service!! Melissa is so helpfully, knowledgeable and kind!! For the first time ever my friends and I went cross country skiing Melissa not only answered our questions, she gave us pointers and put us with the best ski instructor we could have asked for! Thor was incredible! We had a blast!! He got us up on the skis and kept us up! Needless to say my friend and I are so hooked! We are actually thinking about investing in so skis, Melissa said she would honor or a discount if we bring back the repot at a later date, we were so blown away. We kept the skis all day and had the greatest one of our lives! Thank you so much, Melissa and Thor for your kindness and professionalism. The was the best winter day we have ever had!

I stopped here to return my bear spray (very common to rent in Montana especially if you do any hiking). I had no idea that Freeheel and Wheel was an entire shop full of bike gear, athletic gear, socks and even a cute little coffee house. Epic! I wasn't in the market to buy anything but for someone who is seeking apparel or coffee - I'd recommend stopping here. The interior is super clean and there are helpful staff on-site. Note: bear spray return is outside in a safe drop box so if you are visiting after hours, you can still return it.

I loved visiting this cute little shop! I was visiting town for a week and I finally found a coffee shop that I loved! The service was amazing and the staff is friendly and polite. The day I come back into town, I will definitely remember this place!

Great bikes, and amazing service! My friend and I had grand plans of seeing Yellowstone National Park over Veterans Day weekend. What we failed to realize is that most of the park is closed to cars at that time as they prepare for the transition to winter and oversnow vehicles etc. When we saw this traffic hiccup on our map we quickly made alternate plans of seeing the northern part of the park on the first day and then called around looking for bike rentals for the next day. I was so fortunate to find Freeheel and Wheel on my second call (most businesses in West Yellowstone close for about a month before ski/winter season)! I put in a reservation for two bikes the next day and then was able to breathe easy knowing we had a new plan of attack! The owner of Freeheel and Wheel was super helpful the next day and even put my own personal saddle that I brought with me on the rental so I'd be comfortable for the 50 mile ride! With a bottle of fresh water already attached to each bike we were off! A truly magical day and such good people! Thanks for making our adventure so great!

Espresso & Ice cream House - Bubble waffle with ONE scoop of huckleberry ice cream

My husband and I stopped in for some locally made ice cream, hoping there would be a vegan version…read moresince I tend to be lactose sensitive. No luck there, but it turned out that taking a chance on the real thing was worth it: I had the best vanilla affogato ever, with very little tummy trouble afterward, and my hubby discovered huckleberry ice cream. Some of the choices here will take a bit longer to put together - the bubble waffles are made at the time of purchase, and take a couple of minutes in the iron. Espresso is also made one lovely shot at a time. We were lucky enough to visit W. Yellowstone in early May, when there aren't any lines, so waiting for a minute or two wasn't a problem, especially when it turned out the ice cream and espresso were both so delicious. For a small shop, the menu is really diverse. There are two different types of waffle cones (hot bubble and premade standard), a full range of coffee shop essentials with alternative milks (almond, soy, oat), crepes, shakes, and a few panini sandwiches (including vegetarian). Indoor seating is limited, but there are outdoor tables as well. The shop is small, but cozy and offers some souvenir items as well. This is one of the best indie coffee and ice cream shops I've been in (not just here, but anywhere) - I hope it doesn't lose anything to the massive crowds that will descend upon it once summer's here.

The service was quick, and the place is really cute. The coffees were subpar. My boyfriend liked…read morethe huckleberry mocha but I thought the toasted marshmallow breve wasn't sweet enough for my liking, almost with a bitter taste. I would go back to try the ice cream though.

Book Peddler ended up being one of our favorite discoveries in West Yellowstone. In a town where…read morebreakfast options can be somewhat limited, service can move at a different pace than larger cities, and many establishments don't open particularly early, Book Peddler fills a nice niche by serving good coffee, made-to-order breakfast items, and offering a genuinely enjoyable bookstore to browse before heading into Yellowstone. I'd still suggest checking their website for seasonal hours, but we found them open early enough to comfortably fuel up before entering the park. The coffee program is surprisingly strong for a small tourist town bookstore café. They offer several locally roasted coffees, including lighter roasts, darker roasts, and decaf options, along with espresso drinks and specialty coffee beverages. We found the coffee to be among the better options available in town. The breakfast menu was another pleasant surprise. Rather than relying solely on pastries or grab-and-go items, many of the offerings are prepared to order. You'll find breakfast burritos, sandwiches, vegetarian selections, and meat options, giving most travelers enough variety to satisfy differing tastes. It's one of the few places in West Yellowstone where you won't be steered towards elk or bison! During our visit they offered both vegetable and ham quiches, along with chili. Everything we tried was fresh, satisfying, and felt like a step above what we expected to find in a small gateway community. Service is solid, though perhaps not spectacular by large-city standards. Orders can take a little while during busier periods, but honestly it felt very much on pace with West Yellowstone as a whole. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and seemed genuinely interested in making sure guests had a good experience. Given the town's relative isolation and dependence on deliveries, it's also not uncommon for certain items to occasionally be unavailable, whether that's a specific milk option, produce item, or pastry. We found the staff to be upfront about availability, and it never materially detracted from the experience. The bookstore itself is worth spending some time in, even if you originally stopped by only for coffee. The selection leans heavily into Yellowstone, national parks, western fiction, travel, and regional history. It's a much better place to find a unique souvenir or gift to bring home than another shop selling the same T-shirts, magnets, and trinkets found throughout town. Final Thoughts: Book Peddler quietly does several things well at once. It's a good coffee shop, a surprisingly strong breakfast stop, and an independent bookstore that rewards browsing. If you're spending a few days in West Yellowstone, I would recommend making at least one morning visit before heading into the park. We enjoyed it enough that it became part of our Yellowstone routine. -AC
