My friends and I visited the Sans Souci location. If you have been here, you will know that Henry's is not accessible by car. This means that lots of boats and planes -yes, planes- drop in so that people can get their fill of this excellent fish.
This restaurant is perfect for both small and large groups. One of their group picnic tables (indoors) can easily fit 8 people. During the summer, you also have the option of sitting outdoors so that you can soak up the sun and watch the occasional plane fly in.
Foodwise, all of the fish was excellent. Firstly, portion sizes are large. The fish and chip dishes also include coleslaw and beans. As for the chips, I am not such a big fan; they are bland and really could have used some seasoning. However, the coleslaw and beans were great and If I were to guess, I would say they are both homemade. Now, about the fish. This stuff is a complete hit! Everyone in my group ordered something different but we all got a little taste of each dish.
Out of all of the fishes I tried, my favourite would have to be the battered pickerel aka Walleye. The batter has a taste and texture that is on par. The batter is thin enough to prevent it from caking up in your mouth but thick enough that it stays on the fish. I say "caking up" because I have had experiences in the past where the batter is WAY overdone and it just ruins the whole piece of fish. Needless to say, the fish is also very fresh. There were so many pieces but despite the intense satiation, they were finished on the spot.
What makes this place so awesome is that it is not just a restaurant- it has many other services. According to their website, Henry's is also an overnight docking station with power available for a fee, and a federally registered airport and water aerodrome (Sans Souci). Not to mention, its very cool to see the oft-landing planes!!
Its been around for a long time and I don't see that changing anytime soon! read more
