Spent $1.6k on a wine shipment for a specific vintage I had experience drinking. Every bottle in the shipment arrived spoiled. The bottles tasted like straight vinegar, having clearly sat in high heat for some extended period of time. I emailed the store about it twice, offering to return the remaining unopened bottles in-person in exchange for store credit, with no response. When they finally responded after two months, they refused to do anything and mischaracterized the spoilage as variance due to style and vintage, suggesting that I "store and revisit the bottles in a few years". Turns out 2 months is the window for filing a credit card dispute. What a coincidence! Lesson learned. read more

Moving to New York was the first time in my life that I experienced the plexi glass at a liquor store. Can we talk about feeling like a criminal when you are just trying to find a nice bottle of Australian Sauvignon Blanc or Spanish Rioja?! What's up NY why are you so uninviting? I guess I do live in Bushwick and not Chelsea. However, I am a sucker for experience, aesthetic and community. (I am from the NW) When I heard of Henry's I knew it was the place for me. It is only a few blocks further than my usual liquor store but entirely worth the commute. I have known bartenders for as long as I can think back to my semi adulthood. (I did live in Germany at the legal drinking age of 16) And when I arrived at the shop it's like it was holding it's arms open for me. I completely nerded out and had the most recent article of Bon Appetit that had the new best wine distributors cheat sheet. The first bottle I looked at was from one of these distributors. Talk about the cream of the crop! The guy helping me was not pushy at all but instead informative and passionate about the product. I learned that biodymanic means even more clean and less tampered with than even the organic. When I walked to the counter there was cute letterpress boozy cards. And then I noticed a new interesting bottle of Fernet. Fernet is every "cool" bartenders choice of shot. This bottle came from San Fran of course and the artwork on the label was just as impressive with gold accents. The lady at the counter was very informative. And even explained the little box packed with 3 crafted small bottles of gin. Talk about Merry Xmas to me. I am a huge gin fan so it's a must on my booze shopping list and necessary for my up and coming home bar. I also loved that there was very cool modern art hanging on the walls, bold colors and plants. And I have to mention the box wine as I walked in had a huge and adorable pig. It's nice to know that people are focusing on the outside of wine as well as the inside. I left with two bottles of red wine for turkey day. And in the famous words of the terminator "I will be back". Side note: Please have tags of descriptions of featured wine. I been coming here for 2-3 years. Great wine selection and there's nothing like it in this part of Bushwick. After hearing from others about similar experiences, I have to say I agree the vibe is unwelcoming or cold from some of the staff, can't be bothered to help with suggestions - which I understand when it's busy but I'm typically the only one in the store the times I been... A month ago I came to get my pick-up order and asked for cardboard to pack my 6 bottles in my bag and got slight attitude, she just handed me a single piece and felt annoyed I asked for more... for my 6 bottles... This is my absolute favorite local wine spot. I probably spend a large percentage of my income at Henry's. Cute, exposed brick, adorable place. The staff are super friendly and always willing to give insight to their favorite whiskey or bottle of Malbec. They have a great Lambrusco (bubbly red wine Italian style) that I am obsessed with. Also- be on the look out for holiday specials. You can order a thanksgiving package or Christmas package to make sure you're properly boozed up for the holidays. I'd love to give this place a better review as they do have an awesome selection of natural/bio-dynamic wines but the employee that was working on the night that I went (I believe 8-23-2018) was clearly drunk as could be, which is especially concerning when you're as rude and annoying as he was. Plenty of shops now selling natural wine in and around NYC with a more friendly and knowledgeable staff. read more

Come for the interesting wine selection, less so for spirits or great value. The hard alcohol selection could be better (most of the real estate is dedicated to wine) and the prices were on par with or even higher than some of the stores in Manhattan. read more

Usually come here for a bottle of wine and it's a pretty usual experience - however, this time there were 3 girls trying to instagram instead of greeting me or assisting with my purchase. They also had the most obvious disappointment in their eyes when I blocked the sunset lighting when coming through the door lmao. No thank yous at check out or general politeness. Great wine and liquor store- browsing for a bottle there is a lot like finding a record in a great indie vinyl place: lots of unusual, small producer stuff you can't find at most other stores and a staff that wants to tell you all about Slovenian and Moroccan and small producer french wines. Fun fact: "Henry" owns Sunrise Sunset. You can try a lot of the wines from Henry's by the glass there, and your receipt will get you a discount on bottles you buy from the wine store. read more

This review is only for one staff member, she works evenings during the work week with long brown hair. She is the least friendly and least helpful sales associate I have ever seen. In two examples in the past 8 months I have had to wait for more than 5 minutes at the counter while she plays on her phone in the back by the white wine. She has never greeted a single person on the store. I love the weekend shift guy, but I avoid this place if she is working. I'd rather walk to Big Tree Bottle because their staff is at least friendly. read more

Certainly worth the extra walk from wherever you might be right now... Henry's is small and thus focused in its selection. But as far as I'm concerned, they have almost everything I need. From some of the pricier natural and organic wines, to some reliable and affordable go-to wines, not to mention an excellent selection of tequilas, whiskeys, gins, etc... we are very happy to have had Henry's in the neighborhood for the last few years. My favorite wine store in New York. Lots of natural wines and always new selections (their instagram is a great resource to see new arrivals). There are both very expensive and some cheap bottles, with a large variety in the $15-$25 range. Ask for a recommendation -- every member of the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and if they say something is good, it's good. I've really expanded my wine knowledge by frequenting this shop, and I hope to continue! read more

Love this place! Stopped by here last week with my friend and we bought a few bottles of wine. Nothing is overly expensive, I mean it is Bushwick. Henry who own's the store is extremely knowledgable, totally blew me away. Stop in! It's a cute place with bottles from under $10 to $75, and he has names you won't find anyplace else and also sells unknown but good liquors like vodka. read more

I love Henry's. My favorite thing is they take PayPal (you check in on the app and then swipe when told the total), so I'm in and out in a flash without ever breaking out my wallet. They have a really good Malbec for only $10 and a couple of different surprisingly good boxed wines (equivalent of four bottles) for a bit more than $20. The staff is friendly and the location is convenient and they have a very good selection. Frankly this place is extremely hard to beat anywhere. :-) read more

Concise yet diverse selection (which seems to be growing every week) where about 80% of the wines fall into the $10-$16 range, perfect for all those starving artists and overworked, young professionals inhabiting the area. Beware of the old bait and switch. If you are looking for a specific vintage, make sure you confirm that they really have the vintage they say they have listed on their website. I would suggest actually asking for a photo of the wine label (in this day in age - so easy and I wish I thought of that when I ordered!). Wanted a 2008 but was given a 2009. I specifically asked if they had the 2008 in stock and was told to wait while they checked - I was put on hold and then told I was in luck. So I said, terrific and bought a case on the spot. I ended up having a friend pick it up because delivery to Manhattan was $45 (which is very expensive)..Just opened the case to stack it and lo and behold - all of the wines were 2009 which isn't what I ordered. So I called to see how the store would handle it and was told that I could bring it back for a refund. I explained how I lived in Manhattan and it was very inconvenient - waited for an offer of some type of discount or that the store would come and pick it up because it was their responsibility. But nope - nothing. Just bring it back and I could get a discount on a future purchase. Well, I won't be making any future purchases. I really dislike when vintages get switched and the customer is not asked it that is ok. Not good customer service. read more
