Backstory: I've been shopping at another market just a few yards down the street, where the family has been incredibly friendly and carry Iranian groceries. When they opened, they called their small market Star Bazaar and the female owner was always so incredibly kind. Although she's not Iranian, she would always joke with me and help me practice Farsi while I shopped for food to make my partner. She was always curious about what I was cooking and shared tips and tricks. Fast forward to this month, and I realized she had fewer products and very little business. I was told a new market opened down the street, and not only is her customer base switching there, they basically took their business name! I had to investigate, so I drove seconds down the street to this business, Super Star Bazaar. Now, while I will mention this market is new, recently remodeled, and carries many of the same products...it definitely doesn't carry the same level of customer service or friendliness that I experience at Star Bazaar. There wasn't an attempt to speak to me although we were the only ones in the store, and the products were priced higher than the items I buy down the street at Star Bazaar. Overall, I was able to find a product I really needed for a dish I was making today and I did purchase it, but felt guilt in the process. They do carry Sadaf Brand and hard to find items. Owners, please consider changing your store name. There are dozens of options.

Being that I came in from House of Hummus side I was directly distracted by the tea and coffee pots, and the cafe sets. Really beautiful! The back section of the store is more of a home goods section where one can buy rugs, scarves, cookware, and various decorations. In the middle there are consumables such as spices, teas, dates (dates for days!), sauces, rice (really big bags of Basmati!), and the like. To my surprise they had what I think of as more British specific goods, such as HP sauce and Mars Bars. To my joy Jersusalem Halal Market carries my favorite brand of small pita, and big arse ones which are delivered freshly baked twice a week. The freezer and refrigerator cases are well stocked- so much cheese! And lamb! And goodness! The best thing I picked up on the day I visited was the mint tea. It's very simple but is some of the best mint tea I've had for a while. It was like heaven in a cup once I got home and made some. Appearance the store is well lit, has good space between the aisles, and is clean. Most of the labels are in English and the goods are competitively priced. I will happily revisit!

Though Newroz and Nasri, among other markets, source many of the same canned and frozen items, this attribute alone helps Jerusalem surpass its peers, rivaled only Al-Salam. Owners and operators' attitudes buoy this impression, demonstrating that customer service involves far more than simply ringing up purchases and guarding against shrinkage. As I mentioned above, actual offerings here will closely resemble Newroz, Nasri, and Al-Salam, for example, but there are points of differentiation. 1) Through its affiliation and proximity to Manakeesh and More, it offers fresh baklava daily. 2) It does offer an in-house butchery service, but it appears that this service is only available on select days and that fresh meet is only available on those days. On the days I visited, I wasn't able to see fresh meat on display as I would at Tops, at Lorigo's, or at Vineeta's. That said, the amount of frozen meat is quite substantial and surprisingly varied. 3) There is a small produce section that, while by no means large enough to rely on as an exclusive provider of produce (as one could with Guercio's, with Vineeta, or with Ni Hoowa among other smaller local grocery stores), can serve in a pinch and does provide a good point of differentiation.
