It's in my hometown & I have been coming here what feels like my whole like, going back to when it was in its original location (also in Town). I came here for the first time a few days ago and the food was very good: I had the veggie omelet and added beef bacon instead of the mushrooms and had grits and lightly toasted wheat toast and all of it was amazing so I will definitely be back because any place that sells grits is a place I'll continue to frequent and the customer service was good as well as the ambiance so this is another place to add to my list of restaurants and can't wait to try something new read more

Decent food here! And they give you a lot, fairly priced I probably have enough left over until Sunday if I wanted to. I arrived at 6am as the only customer and within 15 minutes the place was packed to the brim, good local breakfast spot for the early risers with good service, very good home fries and like the one reviewer said those were some of the best plain grits I've had up in the north, my only bone to pick would be to CLEAN that griddle grease trap, maybe it's for added flavor haha other than that I would come back here read more

I've been to Herb's Diner 3 times over the course of the last two weeks. We had the shrimp/ fried fish with grits. It was very delicious and our plates were nice portions. The waitress was very sweet and caring. If you are ever in Hillside, NJ, please stop in to Herb's. You will most certainly not be disappointed. We love Herbs!!! read more

Herb Diner was OK, food was reasonably price and the portions were good... I was somewhat disappointed because they didn't have cheddar cheese to add to the grits. the shrimp were good( Large fried jumbo shrimp) eggs was scrambled nicely. The only downside was no cheddar cheese for my grits just American cheese as we all know, if you're a foodie American cheese just doesn't cut it you need cheddar in your grits. I would visit the diner again in the future, if I'm ever in the area. read more

This is about my favorite breakfast spot in Jersey. Fried or baked fish with shrimp and grits! Delicious! And the price point is great. Not fancy, just good food and down to earth folk. And, Herb is pretty cool too. read more

Customer Service is horrible. I ordered a turkey wing special through GrubHub. Herbs sent me a turkey wing and Hugh turkey leg, which I don't eat. My side was rice. Menu didn't specify what kind of rice, so I assumed white . No, they sent vegetabl rice. When I called, the Woman started I should complain to GrubHub. They only received a mix box of turkey, what's she's supposed to do, throw away the legs? I explained to her that it is her restaurants responsibility to inform the customer that the order would include both parts, and give the customer the option. She was rude, and blamed GrubHub. I came here right after my flight from the PNW hungry. They did not disappoint! Our waitress was just so lovely and sweet. I liked that she called us "hun". It made me feel at home! I ordered the Taylor Ham 3 egg omelet, side of potato salad, and salmon cakes. I loved it all and the portions were a lot! With what I bought it could feed at least 3. Glad I played a visit. My dad introduced my brother and I to this family restaurant before they relocated. Really nice family owned small business, all the food made and served with love! The new place is more spacious and visible to attract new customers, however less parking (street parking only) with alternate side parking on Mon/Tue. Herbs looks very unassuming from the outside. A small storefront ish place. Go inside, a good lunch counter and a big dining room. Good solid down home cooking. Horrible customer service!! I walked in and waited there over 5mins and NO one said please give us a moment someone will be with you. The waiter walked pass about 5 times!!! She never said a word!! The boss lady came out walked pass and said nothing.. I thought someone would say are you being helped? Nope!!!!! I waited patiently. while waiting 2 men were sitting and eating and was shaking there heads and said "I guess no one is going to help YOU". Finally the boss lady asked am I ordering or here for pickup. I said I'm here for Pick-Up. I proceeded to asks who was the the boss she said she was so I raised my concerns and she cut me of as I was talking. It's so sad how we see people mistreat and get smart with customers and we support them. If I wasn't picking up my sister's food I would have left that food!! Having my car serviced a couple of blocks away and I'm hungry. Authentic diner with that slightly decrepit look and feel. Service is efficient and they give you a lot of food, one order enough for 2 people. Came in for the afternoon. Just here one day...ate Lunch and breakfast here. The food is excellent (Roast Chicken, rice and salad. Salmon cakes eggs and pancake). The building might turn you around but Herb knows how to cook!!! And the staff is wonderful. Breakfast pics don't do justice because of lighting. Pancakes light and fluffy...(way better than any chain) salmon cake was delicious (a touch salty but no more than bacon so perfect with eggs) quantities...walked out with a second meal of leftovers!! Awesome place for breakfast in an area without many other options. The food taste great, the bread is always fresh and the staff is very friendly. I've tried numerous items from the breakfast menu and I have to say everything is delicious. They also have an extensive lunch menu which I have yet to try, but have heard nothing but great things about. I'll be sure to update when I get a chance to try some of the lunch dishes. Not too bad for a local spot. My lady had fish and shrimp with grits. Fish and shrimp were fried perfectly, and seasoned well. But the grits could have used alittle more seasoning. My fresh toast was nothing I will write home about or order again. The beef Sausage and eggs were good. I guess you really can't mess up on those 2 items. Since I'm new to the area. I just had the chicken & waffles for breakfast; it was FANTASTIC! Delicious, freshly made waffles and huge chicken legs, very well prepared and so filling i had to take some home. We make Herb's our "must go" for breakfast spot on weekends. The food egg sandwiches, grits, home fries is always so delicious; the service is friendly the atmosphere is folksy. I just arrived back in the states after spending 2 weeks in India. I woke up this morning wanting a good American breakfast! Something I think most people take for granted. I turned to yelp and this was the first place that came up! My pilot and I decided to take that 13 minute drive to this diner and I must say......I'm a happy happy girl! I enjoyed the breakfast platter which came with 2 eggs served your way, grits, and turkey patties. Their breakfast sandwich is really good. I ordered turkey bacon egg and cheese with home fries inside the sandwich very delicious and fresh. Also the pancakes are very fluffy buttery and delicious.
