    Root Salad

Really surprised by some of the bad reviews- I suppose it depends on expectations. Stumbled upon here while looking for something light for lunch. Had the root salad and the avocado and feta "sandwich" (it's more of an open-face toast). Thought both were delicious! Beautiful spot by the river. Only lost a star as the service was on the slower side- would've ordered a second glass of wine but by the time we were checked on, we were ready to go!

Came upon this place after finding Pancakes Amsterdam was closed and I was starving! Checked out the menu, and they had a good breakfast and lunch selection. Was seated near the bar, and the waiter was friendly and funny. For instance I asked for still water, but saw someone drinking diet coke, so I asked for that instead. He jokingly threw the water bottle at me. I went with the smoked beef sandwich as the truffled egg salad got to me. It was a good sized sandwich, with an ample helping of deliciously thinly sliced beef, lettuce, and a small helping of the egg salad. Couldn't really taste the truffle, but it was indeed a great sandwich. If I was ever back in the area, I would come back, gorgeous restaurant and apparently they have a garden view that I did not get to see.

Such a lovely little restaurant, so unexpected that this would be one of our favorite restaurants of the trip when we simply wandered in after hours of shopping and picking the first place we saw. Beautiful little French restaurant near the canal. They have outdoor seating which was by far the most popular, however with the constant drizzle we decided to sit indoors by the lovely open doors. Very comfortable, clean, and hospitable vibes. Our waiter was lovely. Had a fun personality, a little flirtatious and was interesting to talk to. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and appreciated his quirk. Service was quick no issues there. Food: Amazingness! I opted for the oysters as I desperately needed some seafood. I'll have to say there were pretty delish, a little on the fishy side more then in used to be the sauce really helped with that. Don't turn these down if your an oyster fan. The appetizer menu also looked really good, we started with the tapenade and bread which was super good. Last recommendation, their Mojito is the best I've ever had. Super tasty and beautiful presentation! They've got a great cocktail selection.

We came for lunch and a drink on a Wednesday. It was a beautiful day and outside seating was available. It took a while to be approached. The tables were dirty due to a next door construction site. Only after our drinks arrived did the server wipe the table down. After our drink, we could not raise the attention of the server. We waited for a bit but then gave up, it was clear if were were ever able to order food it would take a long time to get it. So we paid our tab and left. Luckily there was a good cheese company across the canal, we had a great time tasting and buying cheese!

This is such a pretty restaurant, which cater for breakfast lunch and dinner. The highlight is the beautiful outdoor seating area right along the canal. Inside the decor is vintage style with a modern twist! The food was really tasty and I wanted to eat every dish that went past me as everything looked so good! The only thing this place lacked was attentive staff. We waited ages for our order to be taken and we had to ask for the bill twice before just going up to the till and asking to pay. Which meant we sat around for 15 mins after finishing our food and waiting to pay!

3.5 stars. We arrived at this restaurant around 5:45 and found ourselves a table inside since (understandably) all the tables outside were full. It took a few minutes to have a server come over to us, but when he did he was delightful! I'm not sure I've seen someone smile so much as a server ever. He certainly could bring anyone's mood up! Service is the reason for the extra .5 star Apparently the dinner menu starts at 6pm, so we got two cocktails (in the 10 euro price-range), the cheese fondue and the sampler bar snacks. The fondue was good and was given bread, celery, carrots, radishes, and slices of red peppers...but not very much of the veggies. The bar snacks were just okay, too. The drinks were good, but they were out of something to make the martini I wanted, so I ended up with a regular Cosmo, which was tasty. My husband got a Mojito and it had plenty of mint in it, but didn't look like it had been muddled at all. The raw sugar just sat on the bottom of the glass. But he said it tasted good after mixing it up himself. This is a solid A-OK kind of place. If someone wanted to go back, I'd be fine with that. But I'm probably not going to find my way back on my own.

Went here twice during our stay in Amsterdam...once for breakfast, and then for dinner. We definitely enjoyed both occasions. Service was friendly and food good. During dinner we ordered the nachos as an app, which were basic but satisfied the craving. Next we ordered the burger and ravioli. Both very good. Overall, the ambience at Herengracht was exactly what we were looking for, food was decent and service friendly. We will definitely return on our next visit.

Decent casual spot right on a canal. Lots of small and large plate options to share. Decent drink menu. Large outdoor sitting area. Fast friendly service.

Top Notch Breakfast and Dinner…read more.. Brasserie is the restaurant inside the Ambassade Hotel. My wife and I...along with another couple...had 4 breakfasts and 1 dinner there so this review reflects our experience. - Overall: 5 - Location: 5 (for Old Town and the Jordaan) - Exterior: 5 - Interior: 5 - Atmosphere: 5 - Menu: 5 - Food: 5 - Service: 5 (though the head waiter at dinner was full-of-himself) - Price and Value: 5 Pros: - Location: Convenient to the Old Town and Jordaan parts of Amsterdam. - Exterior: Handsome. A beautifully restored and maintained property. - Interior: Contemporary. Brasserie is a high end spot across 3 rooms, yet remains comfortable where conversation is easily accomplished. - Menu: Very healthy buffet at breakfast plus some items which can be ordered. Dinner offers French fare with a relatively light touch...though very different from the wellness-oriented breakfast. - Food: Excellent. The breakfast buffet is not huge, but full of healthy high quality items. I had 3 unbelievable versions of granola spooned from large jars and covered my bowl with the best tasting light Greek yogurt. Fruit and fish was super fresh...bread and pastries baked on premises amazing. Others in our group chose made-to-order egg dishes. It's all part of staying at the hotel. Dinner transformed Brasserie into a bistro with a French twist on many favorite dishes. Check the menu online. Portions are small - as expected - but quality was high. However, prices were very reasonable with most items under $30. - Service: Homey at breakfast..."French" for dinner. Everyone could not have been more friendly and helpful in the morning. Things were a bit more formal at night with a different crew. The chief waiter was very knowledgeable, but we agreed a bit arrogant. - Price and Value: Worth it. I believe the breakfast buffet is only for guests of the Ambassade Hotel. Brasserie is open to the public at night and quite reasonable. - Parking: None. Who has a car in Old Town? Cons: - The only one readily apparent was the brusque, off-the-cuff nature of our main server at dinner. He wasn't over-the-top, but not in keeping with the friendly vibe of the hotel. And that's coming from 2 couples who grew up in New York City and lived for many years in San Francisco and LA. Anyone can...and should...get dinner at Brasserie. There are many reasons to make reservations for a stay at the Ambassade - including access to their breakfast buffet.

And despite ALL of our meals in Amsterdam being excellent, this one may have been the best. We wanted to try Dutch food, not totally knowing what to expect and were blown away by the combination of flavors and textures we consumed. We started with the pickled herring which was served with onions and pickles- fresh yet bold! I'm still thinking about those little fishies weeks later. Then we each had the sampler-ish plates (I forget what it was called). Hers was the vegetarian version and mine was with sausage. There were 3 kinds of essentially mashed potatoes with veggies mixed in: 1 with spinach I think, 1 with carrots, and 1 with sauerkraut. Mine came with a delightfully rich gravy and my moms came with some kind of lighter yellow sauce (I think mustard based). We tried these same dishes at other Dutch restaurants during our stay, but nothing beat The Pantry. The service in this quaint and cozy spot was also excellent!
