Took my mama bear out here for a little "treat yourself" moment after losing my dad. It used to be their spot, so I thought, what better way to honor him than with ribs, mac and cheese, and a hopeful attitude? We ordered the 3 meats plate with a side of mac and cheese, thinking we'd leave in a food coma. Plot twist: for $45, we basically split a light snack. We asked for double ribs, but apparently ribs are weighed like gold here--so we got just a few sad little bones. When I asked the bartender, she hit me with a "it's weighted meat" and shrugged. Oh. Okay. Guess we're on a portion control diet now. The BBQ sauce? Meh. My mom and I both agreed it was giving "needs a little more love." The corn? Tasted like it defrosted just for us. Still decent, but not for the price tag. The mac and cheese though? A win. Warm, cheesy, and the only thing that arrived hotter than my mild frustration. Now let's talk service. Our bartender vanished mid-meal (poof! just like the ribs), didn't say bye, and didn't introduce her replacement. Instead, she sat at the bar with her friends while we played a fun game of "Where's Our Server?" Spoiler: we lost. Had to ask multiple times for refills. Not quite the relaxing "mom night out" I had in mind. My mom summed it up perfectly: "The prices went up, and the service went down." Poetry. This is the second location of the famous original San Juan Capistrano location where barbecue cultists line up hours before opening. No need to line up for hours here, thankfully. Most of our food was great. Our server was terrific. I really don't get the negative reviews. The chips and queso appetizer was very good but the queso was much more like a bean dip than a cheese dip. I mean, "queso" literally means "cheese" so let's make this a cheese dip. The non-queso bean dip was still good and the chips were fantastic. We tried a two-meat combo platter with brisket (very tender) and sausage. The sausage was extraordinary. It might have been the best sausage I have ever tried. For our sides, we went with the elote (very fresh) and the charro beans which were decent and not exactly charro beans. The beans were also very spicy. The Carolina sandwich, made with pulled pork and slaw, is incredible. It's just a juicy, tender, flavor bomb. And the mac and cheese side dish is outstanding. They also have interesting draft beers and creative cocktails. They will also turn any cocktail into a mocktail, if you ask. So, yeah, not everything was incredible. Stopped in for early dinner with the Hubs after an appointment and thought we'd get a treat somewhere. I opted to drive north through the 101 for a more scenic route drive. Beats the highway! We tried to look at their website link here on Yelp but got the 404 error message. We wanted to see if they had happy hour deals (they did not) but we DID end up doing the beer and smoked burger for 20 option. I asked for well done. It was almost completely well done. Still a little more pink than I prefer in general. I didn't feel the need to complain. The burger was good regardless. It was moist and the softness of the brioche bun was fantastic. My O'side light was refreshing. We've come here with every business turnover since the whiskey bank. I feel the chairs and benches have been the most comfortable thus far. Was told that they're going to go through a completely new renovation process again. I hope they keep this comfort vibe Even though it most likely won't be the southern comfort vibe anymore. Overall had a good experience and decent bbq. They allow dogs inside which is nice since we like to take our pup with us on the weekends. We went on a Sunday and it wasn't super crowded or busy. After visiting the supermarket I didn't feel like making dinner - funny how that happens - so I came in for a snack. Sitting on the patio, it was pleasant, breezy and cool with all the cruisers along the highway. They are a BBQ restaurant so we started with an appetizer of chips and chili. For entrees, we both ordered 2 meat combinations, which come with 2 slides. For one, we selected a double order of baby back ribs, with onion rings and baked potato. The other was tri tip and brisket, with roasted vegetables, and beans. We also ordered a side salad. All the portions are really generous. The side salad was giant and very shareable. The sides are a bit rich. The roasted veggies had a bit scoop of burrata cheese. The cheese might have been mixed with something because it was orange and flavored. Wow Heritage is the best. The service is so nice here. We have seen the lines at the Heritage on Dana Point and I am so surprised it's not the same here. The first few months they didn't have a smoker on site but they do now. The seating is indoor or patio. Big tables for big groups. Nice bar with draft beer and wine. Our friends were raving about this establishment. One even said they would consider making the drive up from San Diego to get some of this bbq, so we decided to give it a go since we were in the area for the surf competition. We ordered the 3 meat combo which has 1/3 of a pound of each meat + 3 sides. Beef brisket was tender and juicy with a good amount of fat to insure the meat didn't dry out.  Bark had a delicious smoky and peppery flavor.  Great tasting brisket. Tried out this place for the BBQ and was happily surprised! First, they have their own private parking which is really nice in downtown Oceanside. I got their banh mi and although on the smaller side, everything was put together really well. It's an American version of the banh mi. The fries are also my favorite kind of fries- breaded and perfectly crispy. The tri-tip in the banh mi was super tender. My family got the other burgers and sandwiches and were also super happy with their orders. What happened? We went on a Tuesday evening to celebrate my husband's birthday and the food was not great at all. The meat came out cold and dry as if it had been pre-sliced and sitting out. We were in town from nearby Carmel Valley to drop off our TV for repairs. We were pretty starving so we decided that a sandwich/BBQ place would be easy and convenient. It was very loud and boisterous because they had a DJ (?) in the business who was blasting some type of country music, it was so aggressively loud, and I don't know if that was because they were hosting a market in their parking lot. During the event, they had a backroom where one of the market patrons was doing tattoos... Now IDK about you but that doesn't sound up to sanitation or health standards but what do I know... We didn't find out there was a tattooist working until we had ALREADY eaten our food... Only young people work here which makes sense as it's a Beer Co. and they want trendy young people. The vibe is young but patrons were a variety of ages. Me and hubby both got sandwiches, they only had 3 choices I believe which though small is actually nice so it's easier to pick what to eat. Overall the food was decent, the chili hubby ordered was so-so as they put meat chunks and no beans which isn't bad just different. My sandwich had TOO much mustard and I would probably ask for them to easy on that so I could taste the pork better. I am usually driving past Oceanside without stopping en route to OC or LA. Recently, I was participating in an event nearby and noticed that Heritage Brewery & Barbeque was right across the street. I made it a point to visit and order some food to go. There is a dedicated parking lot behind the building which is always a bonus. The inside was very spacious including a bar area that had plenty of seating. The initial menu at this location differed from the OG in San Clemente in that meats were not sold by the half pound. I am glad ownership decided to change this because it drew a lot of negative feedback which dragged the overall rating of this business. Besides the family style platters in which meat was sold a la carte with sauce and pickled veggies, the other offerings were sandos, tacos, sides, and shared dishes. For my to-go order, I selected a half pound of brisket, a half pound of tri-tip, and a side of charro beans. The prices for the meats were reasonable given that I recently had the same amount of brisket at a new barbecue joint in the SD area that charged nearly 50% more. I liked the tri-tip slightly better, but both had a really good smokey flavor. The beans were unique as a mayocoba variety was used which was mild and creamy. Brisket burnt ends, onions, and jalapenos were added to the mixture and topped with queso fresco, chicharron, cilantro, and epazote. If beef ribs were regularly served here, then I would consider making the long drive again to sample such goodness. Heritage Brewery & Barbeque does produce worthy low-and-slow smoked meats which I think is better when you order and consume it by the (half) pound. I was happy enough with my takeout food that I gave a four star rating for the experience. read more

Finally got to try heritage bbq and am a fan of the beef ribs. This is the 2nd location and I liked the spacious interior and drink selection. I came with a group of six and we split: 3 beef ribs, brisket, pork ribs, and a hot link, Pesto Mac, 2 Caesar salads, and Nachos. I'm not the biggest American bbq fan but I found all the meats to be juicy. The beef ribs were my fav but were a little salty for me (and I like saltier foods). My expectations may have been too high for this place, especially since my friends rave about the San Juan Capistrano location. I haven't been to the SJC joint, but I decided to try out this place because I was in the area. I'm by no means a BBQ aficionado, but I do enjoy eating BBQ when I have the chance. That said, I ended up ordering the brisket and tri-tip with a side of pickles and BBQ sauce. Surprisingly, the brisket was too dry to be enjoyable, and it wasn't very soft either. It was immensely chewy and fatty, and I could feel its dryness on my fingers as I struggled to pull the meat into a bite-sized piece. I wondered if I was served an old batch. On the other hand, the tri-tip was wonderful. It definitely tasted fresh because it was the total opposite of the brisket: tender, juicy, and flavorful. I inhaled it with ease. Then I was left with the brisket, which was a struggle to finish. Thankfully, the housemade pickles helped a lot. The peppers were fairly spicy, and the pickles themselves were tasty with the ideal amount of acidity and crunch. I also enjoyed the BBQ sauce, which added good flavor to the meat. As for the service, it was acceptable given that they were clearly short-staffed with one server managing multiple tables (5+) by themselves.
