This is a barbeque place with a brewery and they do both things very well. We came in on a Friday at noon and the place was already filling up. We were greeted by a polite and energetic hostess named AJ who was great at explaining the concept of this wonderful place. She was also our waitress as well as the rest of the staff being so helpful. There is family style seating and a lot to choose from both food and beer wise. We decided to go with tasters and really enjoyed all the beer. The alt beer named Hast Du, was delicious as well as their stouts. They also made a Mexican lager, IPA, hazy IPA and pretty much everything in-between. They even had a light beer for those so inclined. We got the Carolina BBQ sandwich that was amazing. We asked for the sauce on the side and the sandwich was good both with and without sauce. The side of chicharrones was a great addition. We also got the hot baked pudding. Totally suggest the strawberry and cinnamon toppings. I am glad Oceanside has a traditional barbeque place now and I will definitely be back. My family and I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. In our party we had the Cubano sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, tri-tip, chicken caesar salad, and mac and cheese. Everything tasted great. Temperature of the food was perfect. We were seated immediately upon entering and the waiter was very attentive. I think the prices are fairly comparable to other restaurants. Since it's a holday weekend, had to get my bbq fix on! I was up in the area and decided to come here. We have been to their location in San Clemente so we already are familiar with the food. Today, we got the 1/2 lb tri-tip, smoked burger, and the smoked elote. For the two people, this was a good enough and we still had some leftovers. Compared to the San Clemente location, this one has indoor and some outdoor seating. They have their own parking lot, but you can also park on the street in the neighborhood in case the lot is full. It's located at the corner of Highway 78 and Coast Highway, so it's easy to find. Overall, seems like a fun area to hang out and enjoy some food and beer! read more

Really enjoy the original location in San Juan Capistrano and wanted to try this one out. I grabbed the 2 meat combo. The brisket has a wonderful Smokey flavor. The outer crust creates a delicious texture that provides a nice salty Smokey flavor that pairs perfectly with the fattiness of the brisket. The pulled pork also had similar great flavor and was juicy. Fries were so good with the seasoning. I also had a few old fashioned cocktails. They were probably one of the best old fashioned that I've had outside of a high end cocktail lounge. The inside bar is a nice place to have a drink enjoy the game. Has potential but not quite there. We dined on a rainy saturday night. We arrived and joined the waitlist and were seated within the quoted time frame. The host was friendly. The menu was different from what I had seen posted here just a few days ago, and they were out of several items, so keep that in mind and don't have your heart set on something in particular. I ordered a diet coke, which was a can for $3.50, which we felt was pricey. It probably wouldn't have mattered, though, as we were never offered to have drinks refilled anyway despite obviously empty glasses. Service was friendly but inattentive. It took about 30 minutes to get our food after ordering, and during this time, we were ignored. We chose to split the banh mi with a combo of brisket and pork belly along with a side of chili and 2 tortillas. Portions were large, and this was a good amount of food for two. On recommendation from our server, we got a mix of pork belly and brisket in the sandwich. Usually, we both prefer brisket, but here we both enjoyed the pork belly more. They offered to cut the sandwich in half, but it came uncut. The bread was really good and the pickled vegetables balanced the meat well. We used the tortillas, which are good to make tacos with the meat that fell out. My husband really enjoyed the chili, although we initially weren't given a spoon or second plate. After we finished, we had a longer than normal wait to get our bill, which was presented to us electronically. She tapped our card before we were able to review the bill and then akwardly watched as we tipped. Overall, the food was good, but the experience was soured by service. This is more of a sit-down restaurant with drinks and other menu items that they don't offer at the other one. Ambience - huge space with plenty of seating, both indoor and al fresco. The space is beautiful and squeaky clean. Perfect for big groups or a date night. Food - now it depends on what you're looking for. We go to a Texas bbq place to primarily just enjoy their meat and sides so the first location was more of a hit for us. We also like that the meat there comes out warmer, as if it was straight from the smoke pit. This is the total opposite. They have more variety of offerings like bar foods, tacos, sandwiches, and alcohol. I also like that they have the combo platter which was perfect for one person or even to share. However, the meat came out a little bit lukewarm. Lukewarm but it was still fresh. The brisket was still delicious and fatty in the right spots. My husband said the pork ribs could've been more fall-off-the-bone like how it is in SJ. We really enjoyed the jalapeno cheddar sausage however. The sides here are also different and I wish they have their cornbread and creamed corn! The mac & cheese and fries that we got were delicious though. Total bill for a 2-meat combo with 2 sides and a 3-meat combo with 3 sides was around $80 which is honestly decent for the quality of meat and portions. Where's the beef? Looking for the missing BBQ feast; however the mid-week sandwich and burger ONLY menu is good. Very good! Excellent flavors, textures, portions and plating. If you don't already know the Heritage brand, your initial visit, as was mine, and your interpretation may be somewhat skewed. There is no BBQ menu during the week. BBQ hours begin Fridays at noon (12pm) and go until gone or Sunday closing. Not too sure what "gone" is. But I was told by those tending the bar, "there's rarely a line, nothing like SJC". Good to know. Might need to stop back in Friday for lunch to check it out. The place is stylish and clean inside, and a couple outdoor seating areas, with modern contemporary beer-bar styles and set up. Like the self-serve water dispenser, but I had to ask behind the counter for ice. Also, for how delicious their food is, it's messy, and there is a much bigger need for napkins instead of the initial minimal offering (3) for the three of us at our table. I again had to go to the bar for more napkins, then the bar dude hands me another three. I don't know if they bring out the paper towel rolls for the weekend BBQ, but one or two napkins for any one of their huge plates seems il-supported. Prices seemed a bit high for their sandwich plates @ $23 each, or the more appropriately priced Tuesday special of two tacos and a beer for $20. Huge tacos. The Bahn Mi sandwich was really terrific when using the pulled pork. The tri-tip sandwich was also very good, but predictable. Both sandwiches used the same bread/roll which turned out to be the absolute perfect Bahn Mi, something rarely encountered in other than Vietnamese cuisine establishments. The Mac and cheese was good but had a spicy note. The fries were good. I don't like the ambiguity of Heritage's websites. The information desired when visiting the website isn't easily found, doesn't exist or doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for. I did find that the phone number listed on Yelp actually resulted in a live human-being around the 5:30pm dinner hour. waited four months before stopping in and giving 'em a try so HERITAGE BREWERY and BARBEQUE could work out the we-just-opend-our-doors rough spots. then waited till I'd been twice before writing a review. BBQ's challenging because a low-and-slow cooking process means there's eight (pork shoulders) to eighteen hours (briskets) between getting meat in the smoker and having ready-to-serve smoked meat. properly anticipating that far in advance is tricky and these guys still have a ways to go. the menu for our early Sunday afternoon visit was VERY limited: they were out of pretty much everything and my sixteen-year-old son's BANH MI, a smoky twist on the traditional Vietnamese sandwich (brisket, hoisin mayo, pickled carrot and watermelon radish slaw, jalapeños, cucumber, and cilantro on a crusty baguette), was the last of the beef belly limiting my options to pork ribs or pulled pork shoulder. I decided on THE CAROLINA (1/3 lb. smoked pork shoulder, seasonal slaw, house mustard sauce and pickles) with seasoned fries. both sandwiches were solid. neither was spectacular. the boy also had the LOADED MAC & CHEESE (cavatappi pasta with sharp cheddar sauce and pulled pork shoulder) which I found a bit underwhelming. the bottomless pit that is my then sixteen-year-old was still hungry, so he ordered the SMOKED PORK SHOULDER TACO which arrived on a beef-fat flour tortilla with pico de gallo, avocado salsa, and queso fresco. again, solid but at the very least suffers from an arguably unfair comparison to good carnitas. HOT BAKED PUDDIN' (sesame seed Hokkaido milk bread, vanilla, bananas, caramel sauce, and macerated strawberries) was not money well spent. a week later, Wyatt took a gaggle of his friends to the AYCE Korean BBQ place (on dad's Visa) for his seventeenth birthday. as a Class B bachelor with a free evening, I decided to pay Heritage another visit. I intended to order a CHOPPED BRISKET SANDWICH but was seduced by the low, sweet siren song of their $22 Famous SMOKED BURGER ( 1/2 lb prime beef brisket patty, American cheese, shaved onions, pickles, and special sauce) instead. again, solid and I appreciate their BBQ approach to dressing a burger, but not spectacular. I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time! My husband and I frequent bbq places and Heritage has been on our list. We ordered the hot wings to start and they were perfectly crispy and delicious. For entree, we ordered the 3 meat combo with Brisket, Pulled Pork, and Tri Tip. Sides were roasted broccolini, Mac n cheese and French fries. First off, the service was great! We got our food super quick, our server was very attentive, friendly and gave great recommendations. Unfortunately our food didn't come out hot, it was more lukewarm and got cold midway through the meal which was a little disappointing :/ My absolute favorite meat was the Tri Tip - it was melt-in-your-mouth, buttery, and super tender. Delicious! Pulled Pork was very yummy too with good flavor, and their BBQ sauce is truly the best I've had! I wish they had bottles of it to take home! I hate to say it, but I was disappointed in the Brisket... I did not like it at all. it went beyond fork tender and was mushy (maybe overcooked?) and lacked flavor. The sides were just ok - nothing spectacular. The mac n cheese was surprisingly not cheesy at all and more like buttered noodles. Fantastic BBQ! Heritage meats rival the BBQ in Texas. We had a portion of all of the meats except the turkey breast and they were all very good. Highlights were the Pork Belly burnt ends and Brisket which was pillow soft. We saw Banh Mi on the menu and had to order it (Banh Mi at a BBQ place. It has to be good!). Well, not so much. We got the brisket as the meat and it just didn't work. For sides, we got the Elote, Mac and Cheese, and finished off with the Banana Pudding. All five stars! Service was great as well. Wait service was excellent, food is delicious but it's how the restaurant is run that disappointed us, and not for the first time. Father's Day 6/15/25, we expected crowds so went midday. The first statement from the hostess was a warning that food service would take :45 minutes or more. This was after the morning/lunch rush, around 3 pm and the restaurant was half empty. The next disappointment from the server was "we are out of Tri-Tip and banana pudding. How can the restaurant management not staff properly for a known busy day? We could hear in the neighboring table a customer arguing with him about the doneness of the burger. We placed both our food and drink orders at the same time, and then waited another 25 minutes before someone came over to tell us they were only accepting cash or checks. No one mentioned this when we sat down or ordered, and there were no signs posted anywhere. Instead of offering a solution, they told us our order would be canceled and we'd need to leave if we couldn't pay that way. The menu states there is a spicy hoisin mayo sauce, I didn't taste it. The "chips" are seasoned corn chips, not potato chips...our bad for not asking. A couple friends and I came here on a whim for lunch one day after a long hike at Calaveras. I don't eat beef or pork, so this wasn't my first choice but alas we ended up here. I love me a banh mi so I wanted to try the one here just without the meat, and at first they stated they didn't make any substitutions. The waiter probably felt bad for me because I insisted on this sandwich with no meat, so he went back and confirmed they could graciously substitute turkey instead of the tri tip. The turkey banh mi was delicious and had hefty portions of meat inside. It was a great banh mi and the seasoned fries on the side were perfect for it. My friends ordered the BBQ and they seemed to enjoy it. We also shared a banana pudding which seemed small, but was scrumptious and just enough to satisfy our sweet tooth post-meal. The restaurant has an open air feel to it, and wasn't too busy when we went for a Thursday afternoon. There were other people there but it didn't feel too cramped or loud, and the restroom was clean. The parking lot seemed generous as well, but again it was a weekday lunch so I'm sure weekend evenings might be another story. I'm being a bit generous by giving Heritage 3 stars, when in my opinion they're currently sitting closer to a solid 2.5. We have lived a couple of blocks away from where Heritage now sits for the past 9-ish years, and in that time we've seen at least 4 different businesses try their luck in this location. Having only been open since mid-January, I had heard a mixed bag of some good but mostly lukewarm reviews from friends who'd dined in so far, so I wanted to wait some months to allow Heritage ample time to get themselves sorted out, work out the kinks and begin running more smoothly. Yesterday, Cinco de Mayo, seemed the perfect evening to walk the couple of blocks from where we live to check them out in hopes it wouldn't be too busy - lucky for us, we got right in. We chose patio seating as I'd read from several reviews it can get quite loud inside, and we wanted to be able to have a conversation. We started off with ordering our drinks - my husband ordered a beer and I took our server's recommendation of a housemade Ranch Water (tequila, lime, Topo Chico). Our server returned to let us know they were out of the beer my husband had asked for, so she made a recommendation for another which he agreed to. We then put in our food order - a Mucho Mac with brisket, the Carolina sandwich and the smoked elote. First to arrive at the table was the elote, the Carolina sandwich and an a la carte side of brisket. I asked the runner whether the Mucho Mac would be arriving to go with the brisket, and he said he'd check with our server. When our server returned to our table, she apologized that she had forgotten the Mucho Mac on the ticket, but said "Well, at least you got a free side of brisket!" No harm no foul, mistakes happen. Our macaroni and cheese arrived just a few minutes later. The Carolina sandwich was by far my favorite item we ordered; it had a great mix of tender pork, mustard and pickles. The bun was super tasty, too. Coming in second was the brisket we mistakenly received. The pieces we got were a little on the fatty side, but the meat itself was tender and I loved the burnt edges. The elote was good but a little bit too smoky for my liking, and also pretty spicy. We were told it came with a serrated knife to cut the kernels off the cob, but we never received that knife so we were reduced to using a dull butter knife which made for a pretty slippery, messy job. Least favorite was the Mucho Mac - I'm not a fan of the white cheese sauce, which more closely resembled Velveeta than real cheese in my opinion. I did like that they included some asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes, however, which made it feel about 2% less sinful. When we asked for the bill, our server read it out loud to me to verify before running our card. She started by reading off two beers, at which time I promptly corrected her that they had been out of the first beer, and we OK'd the second choice but still only ever ordered one beer. She apologized and corrected it. She then read off the food - the Carolina, the Mucho Mac with brisket and the elote. All good, she ran my card. I had my receipt texted to me (pictured) and pulled it up on our walk home when my husband said our total seemed higher than it should have been. Much to my surprise, we had been charged an additional $8 for the side of brisket that we did NOT order. My final thoughts on Heritage are that there are certainly still some kinks to work out - there are some solid food options on their limited menu and some that could certainly be improved, but I have a major issue with being overcharged for both an extra beer AND a side we didn't order on a single check. I do understand that mistakes happen, but I am definitely put off by more than one occurrence in a single visit. Fingers crossed they sort out their shortcomings quickly or they may not fare well for too long in this neighborhood. read more

The Paloma cocktail was the best I've ever had, seriously! Really refreshing! The ribs were meaty and very good, my only suggestion is to serve it warmer if possible, but I realize that could perhaps dry out the meat. Everything was really great. It was my first visit to Heritage since they opened. The atmosphere is cool and the food is good. I got ribs, brisket, chili, and chips and cheese dip. The chips were great especially for the price, my concern was the prices of the BBQ for what you get, basically 2 ribs for $14 and 2 slices of brisket for $17. We drove from Costa Mesa to Oceanside just to eat here and let me tell you - it was WORTH IT. This place has their own dedicated large parking lot, a covered patio, a second large indoor/ outdoor space and a very spacious dining room and super cool saloon. The service was top notch and OMG the food. My only regret is we didn't order more and we ordered A. LOT. I highly recommend if you love or even like BBQ. Their chili is what chili is meant to be, the ribs were cooked to PERFECTION and I would do this drive all over again for just the banana pudding dessert. 10/10 highly recommend!! *Side note yes there is another location in San Juan Capistrano that we drove past on our way down to Oceanside but I specifically wanted this location since I knew I wanted to eat inside/ in shade since it's mid July. Honestly. I've been to their other restaurant and loved it! I was excited to go to this one.. but it's no where near that ambiance or service. The food was terrible and the drinks were low fueled and food was very small portions versus what you get at their San Juan location. The place was half full but their still make you wait over an hour in a line just to create commotion that the place is backed with a line that's not needed. People actually left waiting because it made no sense. Having worked in a restaurant before I was appalled that the servers were only sitting down a set of people every 10 min as a way to market from the outside that the line to get in was long. The foods recipe was nowhere near the style their other restaurant performs and the prices are inflated while everything is small portion and dry. Honestly I was just going to be my absurd 95 dollars and move on with my life... However. When their Instagram posted this it really upset me and many others in Oceanside. The menu clearly has the works texas bbq on it and has the words texas style on it numerous times. They are lying to the customers in oceanside. Then they post about it in a disrespectful way. Heritage Brewery and Barbecue was awesome. The atmosphere was that of a Texas Bbq and bar all into one. The location is also amazing, cant wait to come back during those warm summer nights. To start we ordered the Texas Queso and I added Pulled Pork for an additional $8. TheTexas Queso was perfect. It was just as I remembered it from back in Texas with the perfect subtle smoky cheesy & spice flavor. As for the meats we ordered Tri-Tip, Brisket, and the Pork Ribs. We also ordered a side of Charro Beans. All of the meats were great. This is going to be the closest to Texas BBQ that you will find in California. In Texas you will be served white bread with your bbq but here they serve you, what seems to be, house made flour tortillas. Im all for tradition but having fresh made flour tortillas instead of white bread took it up a notch. To go along with all this food we ordered the Charro Beans. I wasn't expecting much but beans and Texas BBQ go hand in hand. As soon as I saw the beans I knew we were in for a treat. The flavor was outstanding and they went perfectly with the meal. Once again the fresh flour tortillas were amazing and elevated this whole experience so much more than plain old white bread could have done. We ordered more tortillas a few times. Newly open, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt! But as of right now would give 2 out of 5. They have some things to work out. Was excited to try this since I have heard high reviews of Heritage BBQ out of San Juan Capistrano. This spot had a a little bit of a different take though! It's more Mexican and BBQ. I included pictures of the menu. Ordering system was a little confusing. It was a mix of ordering from the bar and some servers who would wait on you outside. Was a little difficult to track a server to get basic needs such as napkins, utensils, and to close out. For food we ordered x2 the Carolina and Mac & Queso. For drinks we ordered cherries jubilee (slushee) & my cousin Vinny (beer) , & hello oside (beer). It was over $70 and took an hour for food to get delivered to us. Was decent, but not really worth the price. We also witnessed a younger family wait longer than us because apparently their food order ticket was lost. Today was the second time we visited. The first time was in January. On that first visit, they did not have a traditional bbq plate but rather items with bbq meats in them. I had the chili which is possibly the best chili I ever had. My husband had a brisket taco which was incredibly tender-fall-off-the-bone meat and very filling for a single taco. I'm also a big fan of the Helles Yeah beer, which is their own beer. I was super looking forward to the chili again when we visited today. However, they had their brunch menu which does not have chili on it but it did have actual bbq plates. We ordered the brisket, tri tip, Mac n cheese and potato salad, and the meat orders came with the most delicious homemade tortillas. Again the brisket was fall-off-the-bone perfection, the Tri tip was sooo flavorful, the Mac in cheese was so goey and cheesy, the potato salad was tangy. It was all amazing. This is definitely our new favorite restaurant. I haven't had anything less than incredible yet. read more
