This is hands down my favorite steakhouse! The prime rib is always cooked perfectly, and I've never left disappointed. The ambiance is impeccable--cozy, charming, and perfect for a date night. One of my favorite things is that they still offer a tableside salad bar, which adds such a classic touch to the dining experience. The service is consistently excellent, and the staff always makes you feel welcome. I also love that it's tucked away and feels like an old house. It's super cute, full of character, and has a warm, intimate atmosphere that you don't find very often anymore. Came here and had their 4 course dinner for $45. Wife and I both had the NY Steak, the good part was the steak was decent. Cooked right. That's where good ends. The appetizers were embarrassingly small, three shrimp on a cocktail plate with a spoonful of cocktail sauce was their shrimp appetizer. I chuckled when I saw it (just a reaction) the other appetizer was the potato skins and it was 4 skins and a decent potion but also served oddly on a tiny plate. The part that bothers me is the dessert. You get a choice of carrot or chocolate cake for dessert. If you have had their carrot or chocolate cake before it's a multi layer cake 2 or 3 layers. They brought out a single layer cake (half portion). It wasn't edible, the chocolate cake - the same. When you buy a slice of cake from the grocery store it's a small square piece of cake, this was that slice except then slice in half (think a small triangle), so not only do you not get the dessert that they normally serve you don't even get a standard slice of cake you get a half of a slice. The cake was dry and not tasty at all. It was so bad, I had to ask the wait staff - "Is this your normal cake now?" They replied "No we buy that cake and give out the small portion just for the price fix menu to save on costs" I would be less annoyed if the menu at least stated "mini cake" or petite portion but they deceivingly state chocolate cake and carrot cake as if you are going to get their chocolate cake or carrot (not a half slice of a grocery single layer dried up cake). I wish I took a picture of it for you to see, hopefully some others post the desserts from price fix menu and share and you can compare to their standard slice cakes. The person that was serving our table was nice and professional but he had no control over what was happening behind the scenes. The food here is terrible. The steaks overdone, mealy and cold. Could not bring ourselves to eat them. we took them home for the dogs. Same with the prime rib. There is no way this was cooked that day. Cold And tough. Mashed potatoes were undercooked chopped up baked potatoes. 1-2 inch cubes. The vegetables so raw they couldn't be pierced with a fork. They seemed to come from a bag. Everything seems to come from a bag. The salad was good I just wish there had been decent bread available. The bread was day old hockey puck hard. I ordered the carrot cake hoping to end on a good note. The restaurant claims it is made daily, in house. It came to the table with runny icing because it had been microwaved. Server told us it comes from a bakery once a week at most. $300+ meal that teenage boys wouldn't touch. Keep in mind this is no exaggeration. Believe the other negative review. I was really impressed with my 4 course meal...sooo reasonably priced too. Everrrything was deeelish! The staff and customers were super friendly... such a welcoming environment especially for my first time. They made feel at home in this place built around the 1970s. We spotted this restaurant from the highway and decided to do a quick Yelp search. We're glad we did. The staff was very polite and friendly, and the prices were right in line with what you'd expect for the market. We made reservations for four at 6:30 PM, arrived a little early, and were seated immediately. We shared a couple of appetizers--the crab-stuffed mushrooms and the calamari fritti. Both arrived quickly, hot, and were very good. For our entrées, we ordered prime rib and ribeyes. All of the steaks were cooked a little more on the rare side than requested, but it wasn't enough to be a major issue. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is that we felt a bit rushed. We were encouraged to order quickly, and our entrées arrived while we were still eating our salads. The server appeared to be very busy, but despite that, remained attentive throughout the meal. Wow! I hadn't been here in maybe 25 years! When I was a kid it was my grandmother's favorite and we went for many a family event! It really hasn't changed much. Don't expect a slick modern steakhouse, but do expect quality prime rib and decent value. (They have a special 4 course dinner M-W for $43.00) I went for the basic petite cut (8oz.) of prime rib. It was the right temp and had great flavor. It's a complete meal--soup or salad (tableside salad bar), steamed fresh veggies, and choice of potato. $39.00. The ambiance is old school and extremely nostalgic for me, a child of the '70's. They deserve a better score than what they currently have. Lily was pleasent , however she should have showed us the special menu instead of us ordering starters and then the specials. Steak was over priced to be tough and unseasoned. I saw this restaurant on social media as haunted restaurant located on an old cemetery, I wanted to check it out. It was in a good location very close to the 5 freeway, there is a parking lot. The prices here are decent, the inside decor was kinda old and not lit very well. While this place doesn't even come close to Fleming's or Ruth's Chris steakhouse, the price is right for the food here. I ordered their famous prime rib, the house salad from their salad wheel, a loaded baked potato, delicious brown bread with whipped cinnamon butter, and ended our meal with a chocolate cake. The salad wheel was interesting, you get to pick and choose anything you want to add to your salad, I loaded mine with everything. My prime rib was cooked right, but it seemed kinda small and was fatty. Service was good, I ask about any hauntings going on and was told by staff that their names being called several times, despite nobody nearby. Nothing too scary, they only have friendly ghosts. Also our server showed me their haunted book showing the history of the restaurant location. They were able to seat us quickly and the food was decent for the money, the steak was good and the Potato was ok, pretty traditional steak and potato. It wasn't amazing but it was good enough. I might check it out again sometime when in the mood for a steak. The bench seat I sat on was broken and I really sunk into it, so I had to scoot over closer to the wall to sit properly. The building is a bit old and they seemed like they might be a bit understaffed. It's kind of an interesting place inside. All in all, I would check it out again on another night. I am extremely disappointed with the service I received at Hunter Steakhouse. What should have been a pleasant dining experience turned into frustration, poor service, and ultimately caused us to walk out. From the beginning, the experience was poorly handled. I asked for fresh coffee because the coffee I was originally served was cold. Not only was the issue never corrected promptly, but I was completely forgotten about again while waiting for a new cup. Our order had already been taken, yet after 35 minutes we still had not received a salad, fresh coffee, or even a simple update from our server. To make matters worse, I was moved downstairs again to another small table directly beside the service station, which made the experience feel even more uncomfortable and unwelcoming. After being moved, I was then asked if I had brought my silverware with me. At that point, after already being ignored and waiting excessively, that comment was the last straw. I spoke with the manager on duty and was told the server was new and management was "trying to push him." While I understand new employees need training, placing an inexperienced server on a busy Saturday night without proper support is poor management. Instead of helping the server succeed, it pushed customers away. What was most shocking was that after all of this, I was actually asked why I was leaving. Seriously? After cold coffee, forgotten service, a 35-minute wait with no food, being moved to an undesirable table by the service station, and being asked about my silverware, the reason should have been obvious. Customers should not be made to feel ignored, inconvenienced, or like an afterthought. This experience was unacceptable, and I hope management takes this complaint seriously and reevaluates both customer service standards and how staff are supported during busy hours. read more

I came here for dinner about a week ago during prime dining hours, and the place was absolutely packed. Even so, the kind hostess found me a seat right by the fireplace. Unfortunately, the fireplace wasn't on--probably a winter-only thing--but the dining room still had that warm, cozy, inviting ambience I've always loved here. It came with a salad of my choice and a side, so naturally I went with their famous tableside salad--where you get to pick your ingredients right at your table--and their Au Gratin potatoes. The entrée also came with steamed vegetables. I started with an appetizer of potato skins. For how busy it was, the wait for food was reasonable, though it did take a bit. The potato skins arrived piping hot, loaded with toppings, and absolutely delicious. My only critique was the ranch--they gave just enough for about two skins, so I had to ask for more. I'm glad I did, because their ranch is incredibly creamy and flavorful; it's the perfect pairing for the skins and honestly so good I could dip almost anything in it. Next came the tableside salad. I went with everything: pepperoncinis, chickpeas, green onion, purple cabbage, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, cheese, and croutons. It was massive--almost too big--but super fresh and flavorful. About 30 minutes later, my steak arrived. I'll admit, for the price, it was smaller than I expected, but that's the reality with the world's finest beef. I let my waitress choose how it should be cooked since it was her favorite cut, and I have to say, it's now my favorite too. It cut like butter, tasted like butter, and was pure perfection. The Au Gratin potatoes were creamy and flavorful, and the steamed vegetables complemented the dish well. Highly recommend the steak--just be prepared for the smaller portion. I couldn't leave without dessert, so I asked my waitress for her recommendation. She suggested the raspberry cheesecake, and I'm so glad I went with it. It came out in about 10 minutes, was rich and tangy, and absolutely amazing. Overall, my experience was top-notch, as usual. The food was outstanding, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was just as inviting as always. Dinner here is definitely not for the cheap, but if you're after quality, flavor, and service that delivers every time, it's hard to beat. So I have to acknowledge that a lot of my love for this place is nostalgia. Memories of coming here with my family as a kid for a special occasion still fill my head every time I walk in. With that being said, I do feel this has taken a spot as the more affordable steak house now, with higher end restaurants and more creative menus taking hold in the area today. We went in for brunch and were able to share a Tri-tip breakfast burrito and leave full and with leftovers. It also came with muffins, side of potatoes, and fresh fruit, which helped fill us up fast. If you choose to drink, you can also get a $5 bottomless glass of champagne (not for sharing) with your entree, which is a steal! Basic menu offerings, which feels like enough variety for the sweet or savory tastes. The negatives though: the older location could really do with a deep cleaning. Some low traffic areas of the building or just extra messes not always seen right away are becoming more apparent and need to be tended to. While we had a reservation and didn't really need it the restaurant filled up nicely and the bar only had one or two seats available at 6:45 PM. We've been numerous times over the years too the Hunter's steakhouse, but it has been at least 10 years since the last visit. It basically looked the same as 10 years ago. We could see that they've updated some of the property, but not much. Pleasantly we found the service was attentive, quickly getting our drink orders and then our food order. The delivery of the drinks took a little time, but we were in no rush. The salad made at your table is still a pleasant treat as I am unaware of any other North County restaurant doing likewise. Additionally they don't skimp on all the add ons to the salad. We ordered their largest bone in prime rib. It came with the salad made at your table, choice of potato, a vegetable along with the bone in prime rib. We shared this dinner and ordered a second table side salad side. This was plenty of food for the two of us. The prime rib was cooked perfectly, delivered at good temperature and tasted excellent. While we certainly wouldn't go back for the ambience, we would go back to enjoy reasonable prices, along with the delicious food. read more

I drive by their big sign every time I get off the freeway, but normally I'm not hungry. Tonight, traffic was so bad coming down that I was very hungry. To celebrate finding a new place to live, decided to pop in seeing as I probably wouldn't be coming by any other time. It's old school steakhouse at its best. Lots of couples, families, friends celebrating birthdays or just enjoying a quality meal together. What I loved was the table side salad bar which had a lot of variety, and the man unique potato side offerings. My prime rib was juicy and yummy. I splurged and am driving the rest of my trip happy. We drove by this restaurant for many years. My wife and I were so pleased restock tonight. Nick was our waiter. He was absolutely fabulous. The food was excellent. I would highly recommend you come and eat dinner here. read more

Worst service, adding items to our bill that we didn't have, forgot a salad and soup. Very, very, very expensive and ran out of 3 sauces that could've been made by the salad person. Don't waste your money. read more

I had the best experience with Shellie , she deff knows her stuff & the history of the restaurant! She was very good and kind & had answers for everything ! We will deff be coming again . She made mine & my bf valentines brunch special & she was very attentive! I will be requesting her as our server again for sure ! Stopped here randomly on a Tuesday night around 7:30 place was pretty empty. Sat downstairs at the bar and place has an old time steakhouse vibe from the 80s to it. Pretty standard wine selection.
