The only reason I'm giving 1 star is because the food I did get was good. They let us order appetizers and drinks before letting us know they didn't have half if what we wanted to order. What we did substitute for came back raw, uncooked. One of the orders came so late and was not what we ordered. The brisket tacos were good. But nothing else. The service was pretty bad. read more

I am from Virginia Beach, Va. My grandkids and I were looking for some Barbecue. Restaurant was spacious and very welcoming. Ordering was a nightmare, since they were out of 4 or 5 meats. Waiter not very friendly or personable when ordering. It was like he was annoyed because we had to look at the menu again when what we ordered was sold out Then food took forever to come out. Later noticed food came out fairly quick for recently seated tables, so that might have been a fluke. Meal was no served by waiter. No big deal they usually don't serve meals. We finally had to order tacos and normally for $12 you get at least two tacos. NOPE. ONE. VERY. SMALL. TACO. My 12 yr old grandson looked at me and said, is this all??? We ate, and then we sat and we sat and we sat waiting for him to come over to our table. We were going to get more food. Well desert. He finally came over and asked if he could do anything for us. By then I was over it so I just asked for the bill. All the sudden he became very friendly and personable asking the kids questions yada yada yada. So let's recap.... Hardly any food available. Long wait for food. Waiter came to our table for our order and then to leave the check. One small taco for $12 and he expected a tip. Yeah. Right. Never go there. My husband went for lunch and loved the food he had so we went for dinner. We were told there was a 20 min wait to be seated but saw there was several empty spots at the bar so we sat there instead. The hostess didn't offer us this option which was odd but ok... We ordered tri-tip, fries, broccoli, sausage and slaw. The O'Side Spritz cocktail came missing the Prosecco and was not pleasant. The food took over 30 mins to come out (our server took $10 off at the end which we appreciated!). For me the tri-tip was inedible. It was almost impossible to cut with the knife and I spat out two mouthfuls which were just crunchy gristle. Probably the worst I've ever had. The sausage was tasty and the slaw was ok. They were sold out of broccoli. Fries were good. Overall I was disappointed - I liked the atmosphere and will come back to try something different but it definitely wasn't what I'd hoped for based on the SJC hype. read more

Amazing barbecue and sides. I got to try the tri tip, brisket and pulled pork, all incredible food. Definitely worth a visit.

Try harder. Need GREENS on menu to go w/great BBQ. Plates too small- can barely cut meat. No water offered. Beer was just ok micro. Decor was marginal at best/all hard surfaces so sound resonated. Def' southwest music vibe (NM/Texas) playlist- dj had a mullet so our first clue. Yeah, NO. Staff was gracious and accommodating. I wish them luck but prob. not happening again for us. read more

Food and drinks were really good and so was the atmosphere. I'm giving it lower stars because they have a DJ that plays so loud we were screaming across the table the whole night. It was really hard to hear. Just would be nice if at a volume where people could talk somewhat comfortably. Not like people were up and dancing. read more

The food was unremarkable. We ordered tri tip bahn mi. The meat was tender, but the toppings were lacking taste. We also had a brisket taco, again, lacking taste. What was most disappointing was the service-slow and inattentive. The best part was the Ludwig beer which wasn't brewed there. read more

Arrived Saturday evening 5 pm 1 week after grand opening. 1 hour to get a table. 35 mins to get food (drinks arrived quickly though), half of entrees sold out - including the one I wanted - ouch! We drove up from Point Loma and traffic was horrible so wanted a good beer and dinner. Only two IPA's offered and only a few mixed drinks (not full bar). Our server Adam was good and made suggestions. The food was good but needs more sauce on the barbecue. They had two tv's but no San Diego State basketball on. One tv was a guy painting and the other was skateboarding. Hopefully they will have the Padres game on starting next week. When the bill came at $205 felt that was high for a party of 4. Also they run out of certain barbecue so be prepared. Should not run out at 6pm. Would I come again, probably not unless I was in Oceanside. read more

I think I am being kind in giving it 2stars. That was because the chicken was well seasoned. I do not eat red meat and the evening (5:30 wed) they were not able to serve a taco or loaded potato with chicken as they were out of it. But were able to get a theigh and leg meal That consists of chicken, one flour tortilla and very small portion of salsa. the person with me also got a potato. as I did They were brought out on one large platter.we were asked if we wanted separate plates! My potato had so much melted cheese that I took it all off.looked like something you would get at a fast food restaurant. Let's say I will not be going back so many other really good choices n Oceanside. Also at this time wondering if food brought from their other restaurant. Never see smoker smoking. Walked in for the first time, music was unbearably loud. Sat outside, motorcycles unbearably loud. Ordered drink, out of the only beer we cared for. This facility has turn 4 businesses in a few years. They really have to step it up or bye bye like the last. Plus was food came really fast. However, ordered brisket and it was lacking flavor/ spice. As the hostess dropped the food off I ask for barbecue sauce because no sauce was available or served. I thought this very weird from a barbecue spot. I've been wanting to try Heritage since the San Juan location opened! It did not disappoint!! Atmosphere is great! The bar was wonderful! The food was amazing! The manager and waitstaff were phenomenal! We will definitely be back soon!! read more

This place is amazing. The burger is the best I have had in all of Oceanside and the banana pudding was to die for. I highly recommend!

I was really looking forward to trying their smoked meats since I heard that their San Juan Capistrano location had great food. I decided to get the Western Brisket Burger (which comes with fries). The burger was way over seasoned (it appeared to have a thick coating of pepper). I had to scrape off this seasoning layer to just finish it. The over seasoning completely masked the flavor of the meat. Note to their chef... a bit of seasoning is good... but too much does not make it better! The others at our table also commented that their food was over-seasoned. I'll be back one more time to try just the bbq'd brisket before I pass my final judgement. read more

OmGoodness! Explosion of flavors @ Heritage BBQ & Beer in Oceanside, CA...on 2002 S. Coast Hwy.....Betty & I were blown away from the intensity of deliciousness from both our orders...I, Janet Swenson, had the Banh Mi Sandwich with glazed pork belly, smoked brisket, pickled carrots, cucumbers, on Hokkaido buns....Betty Anderson had the Bone Marrow Burger, which WOW when she gave me a piece, and it was soooo good! We both also ordered (2) to go items, for our Guys at home -lol -- Had to do it! Penelope, our waitress was absolutely wonderful, and so was everyone else! We decided to try this restaurant due to the rave reviews in the San Diego Tribune and was so impressed, that yes, this in absolutely in our top for BBQ, Brisket, Tri Tip, Pork Belly, Bone Marrow, Pork...and our drinks were also amazing, fresh, and complemented both our orders! Thank you for the Happy you gave us on this Amazing Friday! I can't wait to come back and try the Tri Tip, and a few other side orders! The food is overpriced and did not live up to the reviews of the Orange County restaurant. They have already lowered their prices on the tacos since opening on the 15th, probably due to the reviews here. For those of you that paid the $20 for ONE taco they have lowered the price to $14-$16, but with that they removed the avocado, and you have to pay $2 extra where it was included just a few days ago, and it's still only one taco on the plate, nothing else. I had the turkey, bacon taco and will remember it as very dry. Many better places in O'side to spend your money and get a better dining experience. For those who will still go to give it a try, this is what you can expect. Wait in a line (because it's new or because they don't have enough people working), then when it is your turn, one person at a time orders from the bar, then you must find an empty table to sit at on your own without a hostess to seat you. Once your drink and food are delivered (food not delivered at the same time), good luck ordering a second drink since they don't have traditional wait staff per table, and they don't come over to check on you for second rounds of drinks. Overall, did not make an impression on me to make me want to go back. Maybe they'll try something else like they did with already lowering the prices but until than you can find a better experience at Baggy Beer, LTH or Pacific Coast Spirits, all great places to spend your money that will delivery much better beer, drinks and food. Tried the new Heritage BBQ in Oceanside tonight. I'm a BBQ snob and do a lot of my own smoked meats so I've been wanting to see what all the hype is about. My first impression of the menu was that it's expensive. One taco with fries or chips will set you back $16-$18! Sandwiches start at $18. Granted the sandos come on the locally famous Hokkiado Japanese milk buns which are incredible, I still can't justify $18-$22. Would you like fries or chips with that? There are no side salad and no Mac & cheese side options. And there is no kids menu. Seriously? All this planning and no chicken fingers or grilled cheese on the menu for the little guys and girls? See picture of the menu attached. C'mon people - this is Oceanside not LA. Not NYC. But I was there so I'm trying it. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a chipped brisket sandwich. The upside is that both meats were awesome. Bravo on that but hey, that is what they are known for after all. You just can't purchase a meat platter there because the pork and brisket are trucked there from San Juan Capistrano. Spoiler alert! Don't expect to find a big-ass Texas smoker on site. They are still working on permits for that. Thank you Oceanside. Apparently Primo's can smoke up an entire block for decades but not a Michelin Star smoke house. I would have given a 3.5 but no option for that. Send up a smoke signal when I can get a plate of meat. read more

stopped by for drinks and apps early afternoon. place was pretty empty but food came out quick and then service was non-existent. had to flag our server and other people for simple things including getting somebody to bring our check. After wrapping up the bill a guy came but acting very cocky and starting dropping f bombs about kids with mullets and hair styles. When he realized he went engaging he asked he were going to get more food or finally decided to pay the bill. When I told him we had closed out with somebody else he accused me of trying to cheat the restaurant. I showed him the email receipt and he still continued that I must of owed something else. When I told him there was no way I paying anything more when their food was way overpriced, his sarcasm kicked in again. He seemed very confused how their point of sale system worked.
