Even the most expense I found was $300 and so I told Mr Fusaro it was overpriced chimney cap and the cost of the cap and to screw it on at almost $900 after spending $1200 was insane. He got mad and sent a nasty text to me. Well by the time I found a the HOP accreditation "sanctioned" company to come out, yep birds and nests were back in the chimney... get this; I paid another $700 but it was TWO Chimneys, Two mesh stainless steel caps and labor. Here's the thing... At times you get local companies been around a while who look at your address and charge you an absurd amount. When in fact it's always sad when a Mystic company takes advantage of Mystic homeowners. Fusaro charged me outlandish price of $1200 to clean two chimneys because he said I called him on a weekday emergency.. fact is I had three other companies who would have done it. I mistakenly gave him my box thinking he wouldn't rip me off. Or proselytize their Jehovah Witness belief on me during my working hours. I was so fun and kind until he looked up to the clouds and quoted me $1200 for two chimney cleaning. Then another near $900 for ONE cap. I put 1/2 down on the cap. But got my money back. Oh! I did ask for the name brand and size of cap to check the price myself. HE was PISSED! yup... I'll never trust them again. And the fireplace chimney cap? They barely screwed it on, fell off next day.

Charged very reasonable fee and told us to be careful about the scammers. Great experience for us! Let me share my tenants' report about the scammers. "At the request of the owner of the home we lease, I reached out to A1 Chimney to inspect and clean two fireplaces In our rental and one fireplace in the owners home in anticipation of the season. A1 had solid reviews from the BBB site and so I scheduled them to come for Friday the 14th. Sean arrived and suggested he would take interior pictures of the respective flus to inspect their fitness for fires. It took him less than 10 minutes to assess that neither flu was up to code and that without extensive work (some $5400) by their company, the chimneys could not be cleaned or used. Additionally, he suggested that the flu connected to the furnace was leaking carbon monoxide into the home at very small levels (he described it like a straw with holes in it) whenever we ran the furnace. He insisted for our safety we should turn the heat off (in November) and leave the home until the flu could be addressed with a new stainless steel liner at a cost of $4200. At one point his exact words were "You could die if you stay here and use that furnace." He provided three reports all of which suggested the flues were not at code and that until the owner scheduled the work, he could do nothing further. Two hours later, he called my phone to tell me that he had not meant to suggest we needed to leave the home and that we were not in immediate danger. However, by that time, we had alerted the landlord to the issue causing all kinds of commotion on a late Friday evening. We called an HVAC company recommended by Angies list who came over immediately to review his findings. Their assessment was that there was no need for the scare tactic and that we were not in imminent danger. He suggested we call our oil company to inspect the furnace to confirm his findings. There are five adults living in the house we are leasing and the stress and worry brought on by Seans analysis caused unnecessary f fear and panic. His suggestion, that we could die if we stayed in the home was a flat out lie as was confirmed as such by the additional HVAC company that came out that night and again by another chimeny inspection company that landlord hired to review A1's finding!"

I am very particular about the quality that goes into our homes and very respectful of the design and craftsmanship that the original builders created 100 years ago. It is tough to pick a tradesman today. My rules are simple: Listen to me. Tell me what you are going to do. Do what you told me you were going to do. Work with me immediately on the inevitable surprises or if you are not sure. If you do that, we will get on fine no matter what surprises show up. These guys nailed it. Or mortered it. Or pointed it or whatever. The covered patio off our library and living room is really an extension of those rooms and and ties the interior of the home to the exterior. Its elegant stones were laid in an elevated concrete platform that had been giving up the spalling and shattered slate stones for decades. And our dramatic stone entry steps were a muddled confusion of random height wobbly steps, broken stones and four different kinds of mortar. My requirements were: Maintain the original look and design intent. Rebuild this from a solid base up. I don't want to touch this for another hundred years.. Use the original stone if possible (not to save money). Don't make it look new! Make it look like well maintained 100 year old stonework. They really hit it out of the park. The base prep (the difference between a 2 year job and a hundred year job) was immaculate. The stones, the layout, the surgical joints... The job site at the end of each day was organized, sterile clean, and strangely nice to look at. A million little details that you don't think about. Leveling the steps. Making them even. Drainage in a zillion different places. Base materials that stabilize and drain for the next 100 years. They had to ad a step and that meant they had to find a matcher somewhere. And they did it all. Wow. They completely captured the character of the house better than I had imagined. I will post pix in a few days. Your mason better be spending a lot of their time on the base. And have an encyclopedic knowledge stone dust, process gravel, morter, sand, etc. Boring but look around at all the heaved walkways out there. Anyway, these guys are pros. And the work their buts off. I have three more jobs for them on our house. And the job was super fast.. BTW , I did not get a break for this review. I am just SOOO freaking happy to finally find a master craftsman!!!!!
