But, I felt like the company exploits the hourly fee by including unloading their car, loading it back up (in multiple trips) and whatever the hell paperwork is happening on the ipad. I'd estimate that we paid an extra $300 or so for things that they do to try to add time. Some of the work took far longer than it should. Somehow our tech spent two hours installing less than 2 feet of floor molding, when we already had it. So, we paid like $400 something for what should be maybe a $150, or max $200 project. Plus they look for other ways to make a project take far longer. When we had to order a door, the staff was like "we'll pick it up for you from the warehouse" -- it was 45 minutes away from our home and would have cost us hundreds, when it turns out the company they purchased it from could easily deliver it for $7. Hambelton didn't even give me that option til I fought for it. I also told our tech not to bother doing certain things (like clean), and since he insisted, I offered our own shop vac, and he refused to use it, instead going down to his car to get more of his own tools/supplies. So cool, another $50 for some cleaning that would have taken me like 2 min. There was even dumb stuff, like the company made me pay for our tech's parking meter because the contract (which you don't sign until after paying the non refundable deposit, says that you must guarantee parking for your tech). It wasn't necessarily about the money there, it was just annoying that they cannot accept the cost of doing business. For that reason, I'm not sure I would use Hambelton again. I don't mind paying for good work, but, again, this just felt exploitive. But, if you truly don't care about price, Hambelton was reliable, and did good work (which, admittedly is rare for handymen).

Reached out to several companies - only DC Handyman called me back. And thank goodness they did! First of, their desk is run by Chastity. Whatever they are paying her, they should pay more. Having dealt with several home repair issues this summer, I've called several specialty repair shops, and none of them have someone as professional and customer centric as Chastity. From that first interaction, she gave me confidence in the company. The estimate was more than I was expecting ($425 for 2 hours of work), but Chastity was able to explain costs and expectations so well that I decided to just have faith. You get what you pay for, right? Next, I met Avishay and his crew. They took a look at my toilet and thought that a replacement of the tank hardware would fix the problem. Except when they tried to remove the parts, it turns out this particular toilet is an all-or-nothing type, as in the tank part that was the problem can't be removed. It was looking like my only option was a full replacement of the toilet. Yikes! I was busy researching how much does a new toilet cost, but Avishay continued to work on the part. He figured out how to open the part and tried a variety of fixes (cleaning, tightening, etc) to get it to work. After about 40 minutes of work - it did! He was able to take my very finicky and specialized toilet and work some magic. I would expect the average repairman would have just said it wasn't worth it, and advised me to just get a new one. But Avishay was determined, and I am very grateful. Chastity followed up with me after the work was done to confirm my satisfaction and confirm final cost. At the end of it all, I was charged $250 for an hour of work, and my toilet is fixed! I am delighted, and I will definitely be keeping this company on file for my next repair job.

The job was quite simple, replace kitchen flooring with material provided. The team at DC Handyman confidently said they could do this then proceeded to butcher my floor. There were large gaps, ripped sharp edges, curved lines. The workers used no straight edge, no measurements, and no wood filler while destroying all the material. They could tell we were appointed with the job and left anyway saying there was not much they could do. I requested someone else complete the work, they said someone would come out but after follow ups, this never happened. I requested a partial refund then sadly they stopped responding. I gave them plenty of time to reach back out to me, instead they moved on and ignored my messages.

They fixed the drywall in the basement (then re-opened and fixed again after the electrical solution was determined). All was completed for the original estimate price. Their initial quote is always competitive, however, as the work makes progress, you will find many things that were not included in the original estimate. Therefore, if you're not knowledgeable enough, your final quote might end up being much higher than the initial estimate. For example: we paid almost 10K+ to remodel one room and they left one wall unfinished because they said it was not included (we thought it was). So make sure you have all the nitty gritty details written down in your estimate to avoid confusion later. Also, their work hasn't stood the test of time. We noticed many things have started to fall apart not too long after the work was completed - example : our LVP is peeling off in low traffic areas, leakage under the shower door and under sink, multiple door hinges have already broken, the floor has uneven spots despite paying extra to flatten it, etc. The work looks nice in the beginning but after a while you'll start noticing where they made compromises to make it "affordable". In terms of communication, they are pretty responsive. We haven't had major issues with Alexa, Sam, Camilo, Dan other than occasional misalignment between everyone.
