Course is in really good shape. Everyone was friendly and helpful; happy to have you on property. Layout is challenging but fun. For the price you won't find a better place to play in Sarasota/Bradenton which really is saying a lot with over 75 golf courses within 15 miles of here. Nice practice facilities with a huge putting green, green side bunkers, chipping area, & a full length aqua range that has certain days for grass and certain days for mats only. read more

Was looking forward to reopening of the course - closed for months to remodel as they build condos on former holes 1 & 2. Wasn't really broken but they went ahead to fixin' So a few holes offer an improved layout, but many are still under renovation, cart paths temporary, dirt, mud, you name it...the most insane part is that the new layout bypasses the club house. You start there & end there but never come close until 18. No cart service, no temporary snack spot. What are they thinking reopening in this condition? Greedy? Won't be back for some time. Course was closed for last 6 months to renovate Tee to Green. The new layout is awesome. Great design elements, all new tees, fairways, greens and bunkers. 90% of the turf is is good condition, a few thin turf areas on slopes and around drains, but club is deeming those areas Ground Under Repair and it is easy to find a good lie a few feet away. They should be commended for putting in the $$ not criticized, time will heal the thin turf areas and this is an area gem for sure. Great strategy in all the holes. read more

Very Nice course. - The staff: Friendly and very informative. -Conveniences: Bar is very well stocked and very friendly. Always have some deals going on. -The cart: Very well maintained. -The course: -Tee Box: Some rough patches but overall very well maintained -Fairways: Don't know I did see any....(thank you, thank you). The fairways were well kept for the most part. Everyone fills in their divots and I didn't see any lingering divots. -Greens: Again well maintained, no sitting sand or patches. -Pace: was okay but we(2some) were stuck behind a 4some for several holes. They finally let us pass at the 10th. Layout: VERY VERY fun layout. You have dogs on several holes and 2 blind shots. Had to find out the hard way. Decided to give this place a try even after all the negative reviews and I had a great experience! I played late afternoon on a Tuesday and was paired with a nice couple and single. The pros were a fun course layout, nice staff, fairways and tee boxes, the wildlife, the golf cart gps, etc. The only cons were small, but some of the greens could use some work, the pace of play could've been better but I understand its the busy time of year, and I had to wait a few minutes for a golf cart, but again these are just small things and the pros heavily outweighed the cons. Don't go here. Our tee time was 1:15. We teed off at 2:15. It was dark when we finished. When I talked to the starter, he said their tee times were spaced 4 minutes apart. Who does that, unless they are only in it for the money? Then to add insult to injury, right before we tee of, we were told we would be starting on number 2, because there would be surveyors on number one. They did have one redeeming value. The people working there were very friendly. The starter was naturally embarrassed. I have played a thousand plus rounds of golf, and played some very slow courses, but never in my life did I have to wait an hour past my tee time. We will be here for 2 months, and this golf club will not see me again this trip. Oh yeah, there is an annoying weed growing on their greens that make them bumpy. read more

The staff was great, very friendly and attentive, from the greeters and check-in to the restaurant/bar. They definitely made us feel welcome - great job! They gave us each a coupon for a free drink inside the clubhouse, a nice touch. Unfortunately, the golf experience was not good. Very strange course layout, there was significant travel between some holes. The course itself was poorly maintained. The fairways were in horrible condition, extremely dry with lots of weeds. The greens were also way too dry. I know it hasn't rained much, but I would expect them to at least occasionally water. Not a very scenic course either. It ended up costing $89 for a round. Still high season, but I don't think the course is worth half that much. With that said, the tee times were full on a Thursday afternoon, so what do I know? 5-star for the staff, 1-star for the course. read more

Beyond your average business!...It's easy to be an old cynical cuck down here in the plethora of 55+ communities that Florida has to offer. It's easy to wake up with an agenda that only includes a tee time and high expectations. What's not easy, is taking a golf course that has a less than perfect reputation and attempt to turn that around. With passion and purpose, the new owners have taken the challenge head on. I can't name one golf course I've been to where the actual owner greets me and ask me how my game was. Hospitality is a dying experience. We are in the midst of an awkward social climate. And despite the many disadvantages that l the owners both inherited and are living in; they've managed to make a typical golf course feel like a place you can call your home course. Extremely disappointed with the condition of the golf course. Will nit play again. You can tell they will be shutting it down for renovations. Bunkers are eroding, greens are dead, no grass in fairways. Also very slow play - groups told the ranger they weren't playing slow and he didn't speed them up (ranger told us this). In addition there was not a beverage cart on the course. No value for the green fees we paid. Decent layout if the course was in even marginal condition. Did see a lot of wildlife! read more

Mismanaged goat ranch. We teed off one hour after our tee time. Worst conditioned golf course. Would give zero starsif I could.

Fact: had a reservation with a confirmation email that somehow got changed. I was not the only one that had this happen as individual behind me also had a confirmation and time was changed. Fact: this has never been a course for people to walk as there are long distances between some greens and tee boxes. Fact: a group of students were allowed to walk the course in the afternoon which slowed the pace to a crawl. Fact: the group of students were late to arrive and put everyone 25-35 minutes behind. Fact: there is nothing on the website that says afternoon tee times will only get you maybe nine or ten holes (even though you pay for eighteen) Fact: staff will say what they want and will not bend even though these issues are because of their decisions. Fact: there is nothing on the website that says the rates are "twilight rates" even though that is the term that the clubhouse is using. Fact: we were informed that the carts had to be in by 5:30 which shortened our golfing time by even more. Fact: when this was stated to the clubhouse staff they stated that that was incorrect and it would be 6:00. Fact: at 5:25 the computer screen on our gps informed us that we needed to start heading in as the carts would be locked up. Maybe after 2:00 only tee times for nine holes should be sold . I've played here quite often over the last couple of years and it's always been one of my favorite courses. However, the last two times I've come out (Including yesterday) it's been in terrible condition. The fairways are dry as hay and the greens are torn up, bumpy, brown and damaged. I kept thinking I was putting poorly, I'm a reliable 2-putter, and realized it was because the ball was bouncing, not rolling along the not-green greens. Also, the ranger yelled at one of our foursome for fishing for balls while we waited for the people in front of us to tee off. He said we were "holding up the game." I pointed out to him that we'd had to wait at every single hole and you can't hold up a game that's not even moving. For $50 per person ($70 on the weekend), I'll go elsewhere. read more

Worst course i've ever played. From when i showed up and till i left was met with the worst hospitality from the employees. Wanted to get my parents a spectators cart but the cart barn worker would not let me get a cart even though i payed and over 18. I only witnessed everyone getting chewed out by the workers. Crab grass on the tees, multiple greens with bare patches or under repair, bunkers wet and hard, just not in good shape for such a nice club. Lots of water and sand in play, but not ridiculously frustrating. Rentals were a Wilson set I would pick up at a yard sale. Not worth the money! Made a tee time a week prior and they didn't have it when we arrived. Told us they could get us out and they were not making people pair up. We waited on every hole and almost every shot and ranger doing nothing to move people along. We paid for 18 holes and only got in 12 due to such slow play and poor scheduling of course. Played Stoneybrook only because I couldn't get better tee times on a Friday afternoon. Was extremely disappointed as the course was in poor condition. Fairways were burned out, and tee boxes were chewed up due to heavy play. The greens were the only positive, but seem to be very slow and shaggy. The pace of play was very slow. We had to wait on every shot and it turned into a 5 hour round. The Marshall said there was a slow group ahead that was 2 holes behind the next group, but didn't do anything to move them along. We quit after 16 holes as it was getting dark. I've played a lot of courses in the Sarasota/Bradenton area, but this is at the bottom of our list. We won't be back. read more

Greens were in terrible shape. Recently aerated, but no mention of that at booking time. This course eats golf balls. We lost many balls that were only a few feet off the fairway. Before arriving for our Tee Off time I vaguely remember being here before and recalled a back up on hole one. Well since there was no frost or sandstorm on this bright 80 degree day there again was a back up delay on the first Tee. We asked the Marshall what the problem was and he said "we are a golf course not an airline''. Thats nice to know because if this was an airline we would all be dead. Playing time is well over the suggested 4hrs and 20 minutes. No Marshalls on course, you have a better chance of seeing Matt Dillon. Pricing is fair but you get what you pay for? So if you are not in a hurray and really don't care about anything or a Democrat you will love it here. read more

I have lived on the Golf Course for the past two years. Frankly, it was pretty neglected until a great new ownership/management group bought the facility late last year. The improvements since the Bradshaw's took over are incredible. First the course maintenance is now very good - fairways that used to be brown and poorly maintained greens are really kept up now. The course is challenging but fair. The club has great new food and drink specials, and the pro shop has recently started to stock new merchandise. The driving range is big and has just been upgraded to include mats as well as grass hitting areas. If you have not been to Stoneybrook for golf in the past few months, do yourself a favor and get out and try it! You will not be disappointed. Oh - lots of great pricing and special offers for holidays, etc. The club has also started hosting PGA, U of F, and Pittsburgh Steeler watch parties. And with regard to the Steelers - the Bradshaw ownership are "those" Bradshaws - Terry's brother Gary and his family have put their heart and souls into improving the course and the difference shows! read more
