Ok, I came in as a recommendation from a man named Jeremy who helped me with a dent on my car. I am so happy I went to Robert at Hermosa Automotive. I was putting off getting my car checked out because since my car is a 2024, I knew it would be pricey. Robert and another employee took a look under my hood and realized it was just an unplugged wire. Anywhere else I know I would've been charged for this and rightfully so. Although t didn't take more than 5 minutes, they still offered a service and fixed my problem but no. I love Hermosa Automotive. Ron and the team are awesome. Had a problem w/ the differential, axle and the AC. Really did their research on getting me the right parts at the right price for a used truck I bought for my daughter. It also needs the steering and alignment adjusted. He correctly noticed that the steering had all new parts on it (which was done by the previous owner), but it drives a little shakey so I'm gonna have them check that out too as soon as I can. I will never go anywhere else to get my car worked on! These guys are amazing! I've had some pretty bad experiences when it comes to going to the mechanics. Apparently I have a look about me that says I'm gullible. I asked my manager (who's a car guy) where I should go and he recommend I go to Hermosa Automotive. He says he sends all his girl friends there because they honest, good, hard working guys. And it's true! They aren't looking for one big ticket, they're looking for long term, happy customers. They found that in me. I was told by 3 different shops that I needed a new transmission and I had a hard time believing that. I go here and find out all I need is to flush my tranny. Significant price difference. I waited a month to write this to ensure what I'm saying is true. My car is back on track like it was when I first got it. I couldn't be more thankful for these guys. I can't say enough good stuff about these guys. It's not often I need a mechanic, but in the roughly 10 times the past 20 years that I have, I've taken my cars (and golf cart!) here. I want to share my most recent experience from last week to reiterate their honesty and integrity. My son is in school in Santa Barbara and had a check engine light + running rough. There was a shop right nearby so he took it there to have it checked out. Their diagnosis was that his turbocharger was "shot" and needed replaced ($3000) as well as new brakes ($1500) . Before spending $4500 on a $12,000 Ford Escape. I called Ron, and he said the prices for this work seemed rather overpriced. Assuming apples to apples he would be around $3000 to replace the turbo (using OE parts), and the brakes/rotors. We even tried to spend $3K with the SB shop and gave them the opportunity to match this price so we didn't need to drive the car to HB. They declined to accept our business. So he drove it down to Hermosa and Ron said the turbo DIDNT EVEN NEED TO BE REPLACED!! A computer reset was all it needed, and she was good to go, plus they were $500 less on the brakes. Saved us $3000 bringing my car to Ron. I can't thank you guys enough. read more

Please do not take your vehicle here. There were two hispanic guys and one white guy working (I don't know their names) today 12/4/2017. I have an older car and needed a smog test done. I was told this place handles older cars so I called to make sure they did before I drove over there. The white guy answers the phone and says "of course our smog test machine is working for the older cars. Other businesses are lying to you saying their machine doesn't work because it's not worth the money for them to take the car in so they keep recommending people to me. Come on in, I'll get ya tested." I show up less than 5 minutes later and, with smiles on their faces, they say to me that their machine is broken. I tell them they have got to be kidding me (figuring they were playing a practical joke on me). The white guy says, "no it isn't working." I remind him of the conversation we literally just had and he replies "I didn't talk to you. Maybe you called the Torrance location" to which I redial on my phone as he is talking and miraculously, their phone begins to ring. The white guy excuses himself, sits down in his chair and answers the phone. I said to the guy that I was the one on the other end of the line and he just flat out lied to my face. He responded by saying "let me call up another location for you and see if someone else can take you." I don't get it, why sit there and lie right to my face about the conversation we just had on the phone?! The Latino guy responded by saying "maybe it was me you talked to. I put you on hold, right?" I wasn't ever put on hold, the conversation was 30 seconds long, and I would definitely understand the difference in a thick latin accented voice versus a middle aged white males voice. Please don't take your business here, these guys are lying assholes. Ocean Tire is the only respectable location in the area read more

After having used HA for a couple of years, we needed to make an appt asap due to a family crisis in Oregon. We were given an appt at a later-than-necessary time, which we had to change our schedules for. Once there, and after waiting, we were told to come back another day. A family member insisted it was all right. No. It's not okay. I went elsewhere, and it was fifteen dollars cheaper. Next year? For both cars? I'm making the appts, and they won't be with Hermosa Automotive. I'm used to having to wait for a smog, but I've never made an appt with someone I know and then be shoved off. Sorry to say it, but I feel like I got taken to the cleaners by these guys. I took my 95 Honda Accord to these guys to have a rattle fixed that was caused by a rusted heat shield that covers the catilytic converter. (its a NY car so lotsa rust underneath) Unfortunately my wife told them we were getting ready to move out of state during a return call from them about the car and suddenly they found a bunch of things wrong with my car. So what started out as a $150 repair job turned into a $700 repair job. I didn't have time to take it to my usual mechanic, Kevin from Epic Motoring. He owns his own speed shop and does repair work for me when he can squeeze me in. Since we were moving soon I needed work done immediately, hence giving Hermosa Auto a try. When I went to pick my car up, he showed me my catalytic converter that he said needed replacing. Sure the heat shield was rusted to bits, which is what caused the rattling to begin with. Other than the rusty heat shield I saw nothing wrong with the converter iteself and my bro-inlaw who was with me at the time reiterated my sentiment and he is a motorcycle mechanic. Bottom line is I would look a little harder before taking your car here and find another mechanic with a bit more Yelp Ratings. Just my .02 read more

Took my old car in with a check engine light. After a free check (I was quoted $95), he told me it was the transmission, which I had previously gotten rebuilt back in the day. Ron opened up my transmission to see what was going on, and he quoted me around $200 for this labor. He called with the bad news that metal shavings were all up in my transmission and it was basically done. He closed up the car for me after I didn't want them to continue fixing it (a fix would be more than the car is worth). Walked over to pick it up and I ended up paying $0. Zero dollars. For everything. What?!?!? I don't know if he felt bad that my car was dunzo or what but... anyways yeah. I highly recommend this spot and will be coming in the future. RIP Focus 2002-2013 read more

DO NOT HAVE ANY WORK DONE HERE!!! Please do not become a victim. I wish someone had warned me. My first and last visit to Hermosa Automotive. I discovered this shop when I was in search of a mechanic closer to home. Loyal customer for 10+ yrs to my Westside mechanic but the 45-min trek had become difficult. I brought my car in and told the service guy that I may need to have the head gasket replaced on my used Honda that I had recently acquired (2 yrs ago). They told me that I DID NOT need head gasket work -- only needed a new water pump. I had replaced the timing belt 18 months prior so I questioned why it would be the water pump.. I know enough about cars and the labor involved in getting to timing belt + water pump. They assured me and insisted that it was not the head gasket, it was the water pump. I moved forward with their advice instead of listening to my gut. Big mistake. Always listen to your gut. Always. Ten days after servicing, the symptoms that I brought it in for had reappeared. They said, "Oh, it's a hose.." Strange, you would think that they would have fixed that particular hose when they were working on it. NOTE: On the first visit, I was charged for replacing water pump, hoses, etc. One of the hoses that he replaced a week ago had to be replaced again? Hmmm.. Few days later - same problem. So I took it back to their shop. They requested I leave it for a few hrs and then called to inform me that after spending $600 on work that wasn't necessary that I had to replace the head gasket for $2000. Ridiculous. Seriously.. I reminded them that the head gasket is why I initially came in but they just acted dumb. No apologies. No assuming responsibility for wrong diagnosis. No conscience. If it had been weeks or months, I could understand but this was just a matter of days. It was clear that they were aware of what they were doing. Misdiagnoses happen. I understand that it isn't a perfect world but this was NOT a misdiagnosis. They knew exactly what they were doing. I suppose it is important to mention that they did not admit to a misdiagnosis. I appreciated that since we all knew that it was not misdiagnosed. That was not the issue. I have lived in Manhattan Beach for 12 yrs and I am spreading the word to all my friends and colleagues to steer clear of this business. I have returned to my Honest, Reliable mechanic on the Westside. Great owner + Great mechanic = Great Business. His shop is far from home but worth the inconvenience and drive since I know they stand behind their work and have what Hermosa Automotive is severely lacking... INTEGRITY!!! Hermosa Automotive stole $600 from me. I am sure they have taken more than that amount from others. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I've actually taken my Mercedes to this shop a few times on the recommendation of a good friend of mine. I've found them to be quite honest and diligent in figuring out and fixing whatever mechanical problem I may have been facing at the time. I had reservations at first because I had been taking my car to a shop that specialized in Mercedes but these guys definitely knew what they were doing. In my recent dealings with them, they gave me some really good advice and diagnosis as to what the problem could be. I allowed them to perform the necessary fixes and it turned out to be the right solution. One recommendation I would have if you use them is to keep up with them once your car is in the shop as this is what I had to do the last time I was there. However, I'm sure if you made a request with Robert, one of the owners, that you would prefer him to call you for the intial estimate and status of the work being done towards the end of the day, he'd be more than happy to oblige because these guys really go out of their way to accomodate you! They seem quite knowledgeable and honest and I would definitely go back there again if I need their service in the future. They are also a registered smog check station for the DMV if it's that time of the year for you! read more

Darnit, my car wouldn't start. And crap, the warranty is out on my BMW. I'm in big $$$ trouble-until I found Ron at Hermosa Automotive. I can do some repairs on my own, but replacing my starter motor was way over my head based on the design of my vehicle. I started the painful task of calling around the neighborhood for prices to fix my car. After calling half a dozen places (including the #$%* dealership on Hawthorne) I settled on Ron at Hermosa Automotive. His price was the most competitive (it's amazing what folks will charge to repair cars--prices ranged from 2x-3x what Hermosa Automotive quoted). He was up front about all costs and parts required to complete the job. And a reasonable rate for labor. Awesome. He finished in one afternoon and my car starts great. They have all the integrity in the world and are damn good at what they do. I went in today with an activated check engine light, having factored a large repair into my modest budget. I could almost taste the Ramen and frozen peas when they told me that they'd performed the diagnostic, reset the system and refused to charge me. I almost burst into tears (of relief.) Because nothing says "thank you" like a crying girl, right?. I guess no good deed goes unpunished. Anyway, just wanted to express my gratitude with a glowing review for them. We've been taking our cars (Maxima and Volvo) to Hermosa Automotive for years now. Robert, Ron and Chad are the nicest people (their entire crew is great) and always give it to you straight. They always try to give you the best price and hustle to get your car fixed quickly. There have been many times where I've dropped my car off after hours in a panic with a note explaining what was going on. Owning older cars, I would always ask for (1) what had to be repaired or my car would die on the freeway, (2) what should be repaired soon and (3) what could wait another eight months. These folks are still the best. As a recent example, I just took our Prius in because our check engine light came on. The car has about 80,000 miles on it, and I assumed that it was no longer under warranty. Ron performed the diagnosis on the car, determined the problem was part of the hybrid system, and told me to take it to the dealership because the car was likely still under warranty for this issue. He was right, and we wound up getting what could have been a very expensive fix, done for free because of the warranty. I feel like plenty of other outfits would have taken advantage of my ignorance, and I really appreciate that I can trust HA to treat me like a client rather than an opportunity for a buck.
