I found Herm on yelp because I needed a 25 foot section of fence put up on the side of my house asap. I called him on Mon and he came out on Wed and completed the job in less than two hours. Herm came through to fix some window sills that our Boxer for whatever reason thought were his personal chewing posts. Herm costed out an estimate at a very fair price, lower than the other quote I received over the phone. He was concerned some of the work would be difficult as our windows have shutters installed with a frame that borders around the floor to ceiling windows and we did not know what sort of adhesive was used when they were installed. The job turned out easier than expected. Herm did the right thing and without me even asking lowered the total bill will the work was complete. That's some real respectable business practice. Herm... What can I say about his amazing work that others here havent already said. I went looking for a handyman after I had another handyman at my house quote me for a dry rot on my support beam. Now mind you that replacing a support beam surrounded by windows is no easy task. My husband refused to do it and the other handyman was charging an arm and a leg I felt. So I went on a search. I yelped for handymen and came across Herm. I loved the great reviews he got so I called him right away. He came over within the next day or so and checked it out. He went home that day and started to write up a quote. His quote was half of what the other guy said and it was the same work!!! I loved how Professional and courteous Herm was. He was always in touch with me through phone and email and I was never out of the loop. He came early that morning and worked long and hard. I watched the whole process and believed he did the best work and took care of business. I was soo happy with him that I invited him in to look at my soon to be remodeled kitchen. I need new lighting and was excited to hire him on for more work! I have yet to get my procrastination in check and set a date with him. But he has since called me up and asked more questions about what I would want and to let me know that he had not forgotten about me. Which in hindsight it was me that had procrastinated! Hire him! First of all, Herm could be one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He went out of his way for me even though I changed my mind a few times during the job. I had him take out some built in cabinets from the office and place them in the kitchen. He did a high quality job and was very stuck on doing a perfect job. His assistant was a military vet. I am so thankful for Yelp for letting me know about Herm's Helping Hand. Herman is wonderful and does great, honest, dependable work for fair, straight forward prices that he lists on his website. He pulled through and got things done when I needed him most. It's hard to find a really great general handyman - after all, the jack of all trades is usually the master of none - but Herman defies all of that and is the diamond in the rough that you are looking for. He is really knowledgeable about alot of things and HE IS HONEST ABOUT WHAT HE DOESN'T KNOW. This is HUGE because most handymen will fix something without admitting their lack of knowledge only to find problems down the line because they didn't fix it right. Herman, on the other hand, has a wide breadth of in-depth knowledge but immediately knows when something is beyond his scope and says it. For example, I asked him to secure a toilet that was loose and he noticed something was wrong and lifted the toilet only to find that the gasket was broken. He then explained why a professional plumber was necessary (there was an issue with my pipes that made replacing the gasket more difficult than usual) and helped get one in in a timely manner (which is hard during covid times since all home repair service contractors are in demand). The plumber that came in explained why the repair for the plumbing of my toilet was more involved than usual which was in line with Herman's concerns and I'm so glad to get the issue properly fixed rather than band-aided over. Herman helped me on a wide variety of repairs - from installing a ceiling fan to fixing a roof leak to recaulking a bathtub to repairing shoddy work done by other handyman in the past and more. And when he first came to my house, he noticed dry rot on my property and took the time to let me know about it as well as explain why I needed to repair it even though it was beyond his scope (please note that Herman can repair dry rot but mine was near the roof line on the second story and he no longer does any work on high ladders so my dry rot was located in a place he refuses to access. He therefore told me about the dry rot out of the goodness of his heart since he doesn't do that type of work and wasn't trying to refer me to anyone). I can't say enough good things about this guy other than how much I appreciate him. I saved his number in my phonebook and plan to go to him first when I need repairs on my home in the future. Herman is fantastic!! He did some work on my house today and I'm thoroughly pleased. He is so knowledgeable. I asked a general contractor about my repair a few months ago and he said there was no way to replace the dry rot house siding because it was no longer manufactured, but Herman knew exactly where to get the materials and how to do the work. I ended up using cedar siding that wasn't shiplapped for most of the job because it was cheaper, and Herman just rip cut the boards to create the shiplap himself. Saved me a ton of money by doing that. He is a great problem solver, which is exactly what I want in a handyman. What can I say? Herm is the nicest person and has serious skills. I needed the roof of my back porch fixed, it had started leaking a few winters ago and leaked pretty bad winter before last, all in all causing fair amount of dry rot (never put off till tomorrow cuz ya end up having to pay!) and I also wanted a small section of fence replaced. I procrastinated through the summer and in October realized I needed to get on the stick. I contacted Herm because of his reviews on Yelp. He responded quickly, gave me a fair estimate and was able to start the job right away. He estimated that it would take one day but it actually took part of a second day (of course, you know the weather did not hold out but that did not hinder him, it just slowed down the work a little). I was amazed at how he was able to pull out dry rotted rafters and replace them. He also tore off the old aluminum roofing cover and put on a new one that will still be standing when I'm gone (seriously, blow torch, flames and pure muscle!). I could not be happier with the final result. You would not be able tell that 5 rafters were replaced as well at about 6 of the 1x8s of the actual roof and not one drop of water touched my porch this past winter!!! Since I do like to hang around during construction and help out with small things, Herm was very accommodating, especially about my chatter and it did not seem to bother him that I was observing. I volunteered to prime 2x4s and 1x8s just to keep myself busy (plus it didn't hurt to cut down on his time doing the small stuff). His young mostly absent assistant tore down and rebuilt the small section of fence, also a success. You can not go wrong hiring him for your job. He charged me his exact quote even though he ended up spending a little more time than he figured. I wanted to pay him for the extra time but he refused to accept extra payment. Not that this is a reason to hire him, but it does speak to his integrity, and his skills are real. read more
