Dulles is pretty big, so we had a little walk to the security area and then our boarding gate. There are plenty of eateries, shops, and the like in addition to airport lounges (additional fees may apply or they may be free with your credit card or airline ticket class) to come and eat, drink, and relax before your flight. All in all, Dulles has proved to be a solid airport that meets my international travel needs close a shorfrom Baltimore.

It is pretty quick and straightforward once you get the hang of it. One thing I really appreciate is that TSA has generally been quick during my visits. For a large and busy airport, getting through security without much of a wait is definitely a plus! I also like how this airport has the plenty of food and drink options. They've got familiar spots like Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks as well as specialty restaurants featuring tacos and dumplings. For my work trips to the DC/Virginia area, IAD has become an airport that I'm pretty comfortable flying through.

It is a very fun experience to run next to jets and with helicopters flying over you. The airport features a small but excellent museum dedicated to Manassas residents who served the US Military. It is completely free and made up of local donations. I was surprised by how many artifacts they had. Anyways it's a great way to spend an hour or so. 5 stars

MRA (HEF) hosts non-commercial flights - small planes, helicopters, & private jets with massive hangers spreaded across the neatly landscaped & sprawling property. The airport has two runways, 3700' & 5700' long with a newly renovated Air Traffic Control Tower. Since 2009, MRA receives international (private) flights, slated as a customs landing rights airport. MRA also houses Aviation Adventures, a flight school. On site, is the Freedom Museum showcasing & honoring those who served in the military with sharing their history & heritage. Free admissions, donations appreciated. MRA is the largest regional airport in VA (other airports - Leesburg, Warrenton-Fauquier & Stafford) & is roughly 30 miles out from DC.

The light rail was only $2 and dropped me off right next to the convention center, which was exactly where I needed to go. From there, everything was within walking distance, which was super convenient. My only complaint was the limited rail hours. It normally stops around 11:45 p.m., but the night I flew in, service ended at 11 p.m., which was a little inconvenient. I ended up taking the bus into town instead, which did save me a little money, but it took a bit more time. Overall, a very convenient and affordable transportation system!

It was pretty cool to hear people cheering throughout the terminal! One thing I wasn't prepared for, was how bumpy and abrupt the landing was. I didn't know it at the time, but a family friend informed us afterward that due to the location and the turn planes need to make prior to landing, that tends to be a common occurrence at this airport. Now I know for the future. So just keep that in mind when landing and you'll be a great shape!

For an extremely small airport, CHO is very efficient and clean. I was literally the only person at…read morethe TSA area for a good few minutes, and I was there on a Friday at 10 a.m. I would not want to be stuck there for more than an hour, though, because there's only one small restaurant/bar, and a sundry store, and that's about it. This airport does have a balcony that you can step out onto to get some fresh air, but there's no smoking. But there are tables and chairs, so you can eat outside and watch the planes come in. The Charlottesville airport also has a nursing room, and a lounge (but I'm not sure who it's for), and lots of chairs with outlets. They have more outlets here than people, probably, so you'll find somewhere to plus your stuff into. It's an easy get-in-get-out airport.

They are open until 7pm most weekdays, so if you want service...make sure you get here before 7pm. We arrived at 6:45 and a staff member with a golf kart met us (after calling them on the radio), showed us to our parking spot, pushed the plane back AND tied it down for us while getting our luggage to the gate. It was incredible. The FBO staff were super helpful in giving me the number to a few mechanics (spark plugs needed cleaning) on the field and even offered us some water. Parking is $15/day, but they were incredibly sweet to waive our fees for the entire 3 days with a top off. Usually they only waive one day with a 20 gallon purchase, but they were super nice to us! Getting to DC from this airport isn't too bad. You can take a Lyft/Uber directly to DC for about $40-45 (about a 35minute ride) or take a bus/taxi/Uber to the train station ($~10-15 for the taxi) and then take the train into DC($5). All in all, until I get the FRZ requirements out of the way to fly into College Park, I'll be sure to return to Montgomery if going to DC. They provided amazing service. There is also a diner right at the airport with has decent lunch and you can watch the planes taking off as you eat. Seems like a lot of locals go there.

He always mentioned he wanted to get his flying license one day, so it was a good gift. I'm so rad. It was cold as a witch's teat and the winds were high. Our instructor was super affable and knowledgeable too. I had my camera ready and was set to snap pictures from the ground when the instructor asked me if I'd like to fly along. I was scared, to be honest, since Welshie was manning the plane, but the instructor has full control as well. It was a stomach-dropping, squeal-inducing, 20-minute flight and it was quite freeing. I did think I was going to die, though. Our instructor even said that the winds were so bad that he was going to cancel the rest of his lessons. Nice. Overall, it's a great little airpark and learning to fly is awesome. It's not cheap if you want to get your license--you're probably looking at about $10K when it's all said and done. I highly recommend trying it out at least once, though.
