We went in for wings and a patty melt. Both were a thumbs down. Wings were full of fat not much meat. We asked for the patty melt to be medium rare and really stressed to the sever we need it bloody. The server could relate since she orders hers the same way. Well it was not medium rare so we sent it back. The sever was back really fast not realizing the fries were the same fries that they served with the first patty melt (now cold) AND it was the same rye bread which was grilled! It was so soggy I couldn't even it it! Total mush! Very disappointed. We have had two prior bad experiences so this time it's three strikes you're OUT! read more

Have driven past Herner's Hideaway many times going to and from Wisconsin and finally stopped by for lunch. We had the fish tacos and they were outstanding - probably the best I have ever had. Herner's Hideaway has come a long way! The food is great. The drinks are affordable and well done. They have an outside eating area and even have bug spray for you to use in the summer (woodsy setting). They have events and often have love music. Great addition to our community. It's okay for kids during the day, but it's still a bar, so I've been there a few times where people showed up that were loud and swearing. The staff tried to divert them away from the family that was eating. Great place! Great service! read more

Went to hear a band outside. Pretty good stage area, lots of tables but, weirdly set and most of the views were from the side of the stage. Food looked amazing. Went inside to order a drink and see a menu. Apparently, if you're inside at a table the service is good. If you're outside, its a different story. You have to go in and order food, and they will bring it out. These are called "self serve tables". Seeing no tips from this, when you go in, they don't care about you on any level. My suggestion is that they have a dedicated outside server or two. They'd probably make some amazing tip money. Drinks are an exact 1oz pour, they ask what sides you want with your sandwich as if it comes with, and when you get the bill, it's an additional charge. They keep change under a dollar without your permission. I like my change back, so I can tip them a bill instead. Not to mention that my order comes out, and I had specifically asked questions about it, and they lied. Flat out. I can't have the ingredient I asked about, and they did not offer to take it back. I thought about not paying, but I'm not as rude as these people. No "sorry"- "we misspoke" - nothing. I ended up throwing it out as no one I was with wanted it. I had money to spend and their service and attitude blew it. I won't be back, even though there are a lot of bands playing there that I enjoy seeing. I'll see them at other places where I'm not nickel and dimed to death, and the service is better. read more

Great food. Great Service. If you REALLY like Blue Cheese you'll love "Herner's Blue Tomatoes". The Rueben is ridiculously delicious as well. Great beer selection which includes Three Floyds. I frequently visit Herners. The food is delicious but it seems a little pricey. There have been times where we had to wait way to long for our food but not always. The staff is great and it seems that they enjoy their job. I would recommend you to visit when they have a live band. Having the bands outside is ok unless it's hot and humid. Then its uncomfortable for me. Overall my visits are pleasant and enjoyable. I gave it 4 stars because of the reasons I pointed out. Go visit you won't be disappointed. read more

Wow!! Came back twice in one weekend because it's that good! Servers and bartenders are super friendly and willing to tell you what their favorites are in the menu. This place is terrible! We came with our daughter who is half black and they would not serve us! They just ignored us as others came in and were waited on! I would never recommend this place. Stopped by yesterday looking for a new lunch spot. A little scary from the outside. Painted cinder block building with a muddy driveway. Looked a little rough outside so I wasn't expecting much. Opened the door and wow looked like a bistro. Come to find out the owner bought the place last April and has been remodeling. She did a hell of job on the inside. Overheard her say they were going to try and put a driveway in and spruce up the outside. Menu is small, typical for a bar. I had the Italian beef, fries, slaw and fountain pop. Total bill was $11.50. Enjoyed the sandwich and fries. The slaw was a Thousand island color and real creamy, but tasted good. The owner said they plan on starting a fish fry in the next month. A bar for sure but with top notch food, varied menu and the kitchen stays open til 10:00 except Sunday. Specials weekdays during the winter offer full meals. Sandwiches are generous, some inventive, and are delicious. Not only fries offered as sides, but potato salad, German potato salad, coleslaw and applesauce are offered. Don't discount the fries. They are crispy and plentiful. Friday night fish fry is one of the best with potato pancakes. Stop at this place. Live entertainment outside in the summer. I hate being that person who gives three stars. I cringe at 3 star reviewers because its sort of an asshole move to give a place 3 stars. I felt I had to. Overall the food was great, and even though we had to wait an extra 15 minutes for a table (we were told because someone scratched our name off the hostess's list), I did not score down for that because the friendliness of the staff made up for it. I didn't care for the ranch dressing at all, so that took it down a star. The other deduction was for the atmosphere--I could barely hear myself think because of the extremely loud patrons. I literally had to scream across the table to have a conversation with my boyfriend. I'd like to come back again when they aren't so busy and perhaps I'll have a better experience.
