Joyce, the owner requested a pic of what I wanted, pre appointment. Her immediate response upon seeing the pic of this and then one of my hair, "that's totally possible" and "that look will fit you well" (I wanted a more strawberry blonde) I disclosed my hair's extreme porosity and that red colors do not really fade in my hair, based on once before many years before. I raised concerns during the service when the color was bright and "hot" when developing. She told me not to worry and trust process--though the root was developing fluorescent orange Finally, Joyce, stopped, acknowledged and admitted there was a problem when she was midblowdry. She said she should've listened better re hair being porous. I appreciated her accountability in that moment. She asked me to come back, said she wanted to do some research because the attempts to color correct were not working and it was a new line. Two appointments failed to resolve it. (original and next day) The color is burgundy now at the roots, and auburn and blonde spotted mid way and on some ends (not uniform). The roots remain visibly mismatched. I respectfully requested a refund, when the bright and mismatched hair couldn't be remedied. A refund was declined. I hoped she would do the fair thing and refund. She messed up and was unable to correct it. The color does not resemble at all, the photo I showed her. I would not recommend getting color here, especially not anything in the copper/red line. My new favorite neighborhood Barbershop! I yelped this place because I'm going to soon have a job interview and I need a quick cut. I was blessed that this barber joint was open. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the guy that cut my hair, but every single of their barbers are chill and solid individuals. First of all, they greeted you with respect of the joint. They always addressed their customers "Sir" or "Mam" I really think respect is an underrated aspect of customer service nowadays, so I acknowledged that. Second, I just showed a picture of one of my favorite actor, Jon Berntal's (The Punisher) haircut to my barber and he already know how to style it on the spot! I love my haircut and that made my day, BIG TIME! I cannot say enough great things about this Barbershop and our friend Joyce! She owns it and is not only kind caring and a great barber she is very accommodating. This is one of the best kept secret around. She's extremely reasonable all you need to do is call and make an appointment or walk in. It's located on the Joint Forces Base in Los Alamitos. Anyone can get in with a valid drivers license. And after you get your haircut you can walk across the hall to the Fiddlers Green pub and have an awesome meal and a cocktail. Located right on the landing strip. AJ The food and beverage manager is so kind. The services is amazing and the food is incredible and reasonable and they make a great drink. Well this place lost another customer. Apparently they cant keep or even get barbers there. I walked in and there was 4 people waiting. The female barber says it shouldn't be to long. 90 minutes later Im still waiting. They fail to tell you as other people walk in that have appointments go ahead of you. Fuck that! Dont wait 90 min to tell me that. I walked out and will never walk back in. They have strong competition around them and doubt this new owner will last. With excellent cuts and shaves, family friendly atmosphere, and a deep respect for the individuals who protect and serve this country in all aspects, Heroes stands out from these "new school" barber shops that punch you in the face with loud music and abrasive "we don't really care about you" attitudes. **Disclaimer** I've never been to Hero's, this is only a review on Joyce. All I know of her is from 10 years ago when she was at another barber shop, I believe that she owned it as well. Her family had just taken it over from three men that I had been going to for years. I walked in without realizing ownership had changed, but decided to stay. I'm pretty sure I was hoping to get either her brother or her dad(men), but she was next in line, and I got her. At the risk of sounding like an a-hole, I was very upset that a woman was cutting my hair. I was going to a barber for a reason. What happened next changed my outlook for good. She started using a straight razor to cut my entire hair. Not to shave it, but how most barber/stylists would use scissors, she was using a razor. I never had that done, so I thought she was messing it up. When all was said and done, it is still the best haircut that I've had in 39 years of life. I still go to that same barber in Long Beach, even now that she's gone, because of her, and my experience that day. I LIVE IN LAS VEGAS, AND GO TO A BARBER 300 MILES AWAY BECAUSE OF HER. I only found out maybe 7 months ago who it was that was cutting my hair that day. I was telling my first cut story to the GIRL who now cuts my hair at that other barbershop, and Joyce's brother overheard me. He said, "that was my sister". And that's when I began trying to get another cut from her. I happened to be writing a review of that shop today, and read a few of the bad reviews. That's when I saw a response to a customer that had a bad experience. Joyce took the time to read, and respond, to the comment to try to EARN the business of that dissatisfied customer. You can't make everyone happy, but she was trying. I digress a little. Through that review, I now had Joyce's name. I've always wanted to go to her again for a cut, but figured she had given up the business. Google helped me find Hero's, and hopefully next time I'm in Long Beach, I'll make a trip over to check this place out. You all should too!! Can't wait for another cut, Joyce. I was on my way to pick up my daughter at LAX when I realized I needed a haircut. Her flight was delayed, I checked Yelp and found Heroes, conveniently located near (close enough) an exit off the 405. Walked in to find an open chair, told them what I wanted and they went to work. My husband came back with her beautiful hair butchered ‍ So disappointing!.. She just went and cut as she pleases, took about a 1/2 in off front!! He wears his hair kinda long to n top and cleaned up on the sides .. he's been there and a gentleman usually does a great job. Not military haircut or his case a thug haircut. We have a wedding this weekend!!'. His hair in the front is buzzed off ( literally in the front) will take months to get it as long as he had it.. We are so pissed off.. it happened (with her ) the first time he went there months ago . He found a guy there who he seemed happy with his hair cuts.. I guess he wasn't in when he went in the weekend. About 18 months ago I had back-to-back bad cuts and said "that's it, no one is touching my hair anymore". But my hair was getting out of control. I have been getting my hair cut by Joyce for over 2 years... and as long as I live in Long Beach I'll never have my hair cut by anyone else again. When she was transitioning into this new shop she was located pretty far from me so I went to get my hair cut by someone else. That was a very big mistake because it was the worst hair cut I've ever had. It was so bad that I thought it would literally be impossible to fix. The only thing I could think to do was contact Joyce to see if she could fix it. She told me to come by and she'd see what she could do. Joyce was somehow able to turn it into a great hair cut and I was beyond thankful for it. Long story short, Joyce is the best barber I've ever had and I couldn't ask anything more from her. I can honestly say this was one of the worst haircuts and barbershop experiences I've had in at least 20 years. I had recently been going to a barbershop that was charging about half of what Heroes is charging and I thought I could find better. I like businesses that support the military and first responders so I thought I'd give this place a try, even for $25. First of all, my barber Ashley, spent the entire time complaining about her day and telling me about her problems. She even began to bad mouth Los Alamitos because one of her customers told her he didn't care for Long Beach (which is apparently where she is from). Mind you, this was after I told her I live in Los Alamitos. I found this very off-putting and unprofessional. With regards to the haircut, my haircut is very simple. But when she was done it was very uneven and didn't look complete (I had to blend one side myself when I got home) and didn't grow out well at all. She cut it way too short in the front and textured it which made it even thinner and near impossible to style. Usually they will ask if I want it textured, but she went ahead and did it anyway without asking. But the worst part was that when she was done, she didn't even bother to wipe the hair off my forehead or neck. The wet hair that she had cut off was still stuck to my forehead. I didn't notice right away because I wanted to get out of there. I was on my way to another store before running home, so I literally just stuck my head out the window to dry it and wipe the hair off of my head. Maybe she was having a bad day but I still think this is unacceptable. My advice: either save your money and find a better haircut for much cheaper (try All Happy Barbers) or if you're ok paying that much, get a quality haircut from a real barbershop like Old Traditions. The bottom line is there are just too many options out there to settle for a haircut like that. *You might be able to get a better haircut from another barber in the shop, but at the least, I think the owner should do some quality control with her staff. read more

The lady in the yelp pics cut my hair. She was nice but gave me one of the worst haircuts I've had. I told her at the begging of the haircut that she had already gone to high up hoping she would be able to recover. She put gunk in my hair without asking (obviously to make the cut look better) but it was too much it felt disgusting. I asked her if she could wash it out after she finished trying to style it. I left and got in the car only to notice she took too much off on one side. Got out, walked back in and asked her if she could go over the top with No.8. She told me it was an inch and if I was sure. She had me second guessing the inch long hair so I didn't do it because I didn't want another misunderstanding. The worst part was that she said my hair was symmetrical that she was sure because she had been cutting hair for 25yrs. I got home and she was right my No.8 clip did say 1in. Oh, I asked for a No.1 low fade tapered, a little off the top. Apparently I was supposed to ask for a NY cut and emphasize combable sides. This is probably my third review so ill try post pics. read more
