One of Lufkin''s popular lunch spots, lunch specials are offered here so of course my coworkers and I hit this place up when we have an assignment in Lufkin. The Tex-Mex options here involve your normies such as enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos, fajitas, nachos, and tacos. All of these (or a combination of these) are part of the express lunch menu which is what we usually order. Most of the time, people in our group get some sort of enchiladas with the favorites being the avocado or the verde due to the sauces and cheesiness mixed in. The avocado is probably my favorite since I'm an avocado lover with the taste and texture. Other favorites are the street tacos where it comes with three tacos and the rice and beans. These tacos are quite large so it's not the traditional mexican street tacos with the onions/cilantro on the miniature tortillas. They are also packed and I mean PACKED with proteins; I've only gotten the al pastor cause I keep coming back to it. Something about it that makes it addicting with the tenderness of the meat and spices. Honestly this place was fire! I wasn't expecting it to be all that from the outside (right next to a cici's pizza) but walked inside and it was nice. The booths were tall and secluded so that's a plus and the food was amazing. The salsa they served was so good, I had to force myself not to eat it all with the chips and the main dish itself was so fresh and flavorful. I got the California bowl and my husband got a chicken plate and it was just great. For the price and the portion size, everything was on point. I got the non alcoholic cucumber drink and that was fresh too. The staff was nice and attentive. Another fine meal from the staff at Herraduras! I had the Traditional Chicken Fajitas and my wife had the Chicken Quesadillas. Both were delicious. The pictures don't do justice but trust me they were delicious. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly, he refilled the salsa and our drinks several times. He was very attentive. The restaurant was very busy as usual so the areas under and around the booths and tables were messy. Otherwise the dining room is always pleasant. We had a bigger party so it was about a 5-10 minute wait to get a table which wasn't bad at all. The waiter was pretty alright, but we did wait a little bit on refills. We ordered the Gorilla Cheesy Bacon Wraps and Birria Burrito, the bacon wraps were SO good and they came with a chipotle dipping sauce definitely a 5/5 but they weren't spicy at all! We showed up at 17:38. Ordered two margaritas. 11 minutes later he came back and said "did you say frozen or on the rocks". We reminded him frozen. And asked for water. 13 minutes later got the margaritas but not the water. We asked again. and again. And again. Finally got it. Placed our order. 51 minutes later it arrived. The fajita meat was cold. Mine was the pepe platter and I got the tortilla soup but it was cold and they brought the tamales at the same time which were also cold. And he forgot our second round of margaritas. We had to ask 4 times before he brought them and then it got worse. My meal included a Dessert. We waited 40 minutes for the dessert. We reminded him but He walked by us multiple times and didn't acknowledge us. finally we gave up and went to the cashier. She was horrible. i told her I never got my dessert and she rang up the full meal and charged me full Price!!! i mentioned several times I never got part of my meal and she shrugged and had no sympathy and told us to pay for the full price. I have never left a 0$ tip until today. Why didnt they discount the fact I never got my dessert. It's bad enough we are here for a funeral, but to be treated like this, it's terrible!! read more

'Checked out Yelp today for a good Mexican lunch in Lufkin and as always it didn't steer me wrong. Mom and I split Birria Tacos, three authentic Mexican style Birria tacos, made with braised beef, roasted in a fragrant adobo sauce with a delicious spice mix. Lightly crispy in corn tortilla, onions, cilantro, fresh lime and jalapeño boom sauce. They were served with a side of consomé for dipping that was divine in and of itself. BUT, the winner of the day was the SALSA (served hot) that I could have and wish I had brought a GALLON of home with me! Just WOW! I don't even leave the leftover on the table; I asked for a cup and brought it home with me! Our server was terrific and attentive but did not annoy. The place was not crowded at 1 pm so the place was relatively quiet. Look out for ...the jalapeño boom sauce, it will set you ablaze;and the fried icecream, not worth the $6.
