You may not have the fancy stuff here like massage chairs, TVs in the exam rooms, or anything like that as this is a no thrills dental office. They don't even have a website which is strange so you cannot make online appointments which is inconvenient and they don't have Friday appointments. That being said, I've never had a long wait here, I've had thorough cleanings, they give a generous amount of local anesthesia for deep cleanings (very important!),and most important, they do not try to get you to get unnecessary work done that many offices will insist you need (I hate saying this, but I have found most dentists are like car salesmen....). I would say the main cons I would have for this office would be no Friday hours, no website to make online appointments, and that the billing person has made mistakes each time that I have been there ranging from insisting things weren't covered when they were and wanting to get me to pay an extra copay when I didn't owe any money. I don't think she deliberately was trying to be dishonest but making mistakes on half my appointments seems a bit odd.... Have your dental coverage printed out in advance so if she tries to bill you for things that are covered you have proof right there. I also didn't care for 1 hygentist. The rest were great though. One more con which is why this is 3 stars and not 4, they are horrible about returning phone calls... read more

He is amazing! Took me in for an emergency abscess/tooth extraction. I broke my tooth three years ago and procrastinated getting it fixed. (Gross I know!) and I somehow got it infected and was in the worst pain ever!!!! we contacted him pretty early, and he came in! He was honest and did his best to make sure we made the best choice for my health. He was able to pull it out, no pain from the injections to numb. He did his best to make sure i was comfortable and happy. I am beyond happy! It is worth what we paid for, and it's super close to my house. My mouth finally feels better, and recommend him to anyone scared of the dentist. He has a little room with a tv and movies for little kids. His prices are beyond reasonable. Go see him! read more

I actually look forward to my dentist appoints! Dr. Herrod and his staff are not just friendly and on time, but they are really fun. Dr. Herrod is the only dentist that apologizes a million times before shooting you up Novocain. His sincerity and comedic blend eases your mind. His office is a bit retro, you can tell your dollars don't go to the newest equipment, but I like his simplistic non-flashy approach. I'm sure this is also why his fees are so reasonable. His staff are truly warm as well. Of course, Dr. Herrods is very skilled and conscientious in his work too. I would recommend him especially to the skittish! :) He's great! read more

I've been going to Dr Herrod since I was 14. I'm 40. (With the exception of one 6 month stint elsewhere for insurance reasons--which REALLY made me realize the stark difference.) In other words, I've done whatever I can to make sure he's my dentist. He is a man of skill, kindness, and integrity. He works to help me better understand how to best take care of my dental hygiene and is not in it for the upsell. He lays out all options and helps me make educated decisions. Over the years he's worked to expand his scope of practice, staying current with new practices and developing additional treatment options. The other dentist I went to for that 1 insurance blunder had a fancy office with fancy equipment....and I paid dearly for it with my money. I felt like a number in the sea of patients and wasted more than 30 minutes after my appointment time to be seen. Dr Herrod's office runs on time. They respect clients in every way--including keeping you on schedule. No, they don't have the latest gadgets, but they do have the latest skills and stellar customer service. The staff are warm, friendly, and efficient--all rolled into one. It's funny, people always complain about going to the dentist, going to visit Dr Herrod is like visiting family and leaving with a gleaming smile. Dr Herrod is wonderful! He's very kind and careful to make patients comfortable. He is great at guiding patients w what the most important dental work needs to be done vs what can wait a while. He's gentle and great at numbing! My daughter couldn't get numb by another dentist that tried 2x! Dr Herrod got her numb on the 1st try and she went through the filling process beautifully. His receptionist team is kind and efficient, his staff are all highly trained, and he does quality work while also being a really nice guy. Dr. Harrod is a wonderful, skilled dentist and a good guy, too! He is a very kind man and he listened to my concerns and did his best to address them, and the procedure I had was painless and went smoothly. Cindy, who greets you at the front desk, always has a smile. The office is clean and organized, everyone on staff is friendly, and Dr. Harrod doesn't try to upsell you with unnecessary procedures. Just left Dr. Herrod's office with the usual excellent results. I recently broke a crown which I had to have remade twice because of poor fit and performance. Dr. Herrod replaced it with a temporary crown which fit better than the one it was replacing. The permanent crown was color matched and fit perfectly. I have been seeing Dr. Herrod for approximately 20 years. I wouldn't go anywhere else even though I'm driving from Encinitas. Not Denmark....but still! I agree with every 5-star review posted. If I lived closer I would be stopping in just to say hello, they are so much fun to talk to! Oh yes, the actual dentistry. I've had a lot of work done over the years and not once has there been any problems with the work in any way. Dr. Herrod and Susie are perfectionists in what they do. I also trust Dr. Herrod completely when he suggests that preventative care be done on a tooth. He never suggests anything that doesn't prove to be a necessity. Dr. Herrod is amazing. My family started going here several years ago after a referral from another family member. I think about twenty family/friends go to him for dental work and I haven't heard anything but good reviews from them. Dr. Herrod and his team make sure you understand everything that is going on and they have a nice family atmosphere there. Most of the time you can get an appointment pretty fast and they will always call you with a reminder. Great staff and dentist! My crown on the top, on back, randomly came off as I was chewing on a subway sandwich for breakfast. I haven't seen a dentist since I've lived in San Diego (about 9 months now), so I searched for one quick and the one nearest to me that had the highest reviews was Dr. Herrod.
