I was a patient at La Mesa Dental Artistry years ago, working with Dr. Rebecca Wachtel, Sarah, and her other amazing staff during what was a genuinely traumatic time in my life. I had lost several front teeth and needed implants, and Dr. Wachtel handled the whole process with such warmth and compassion that it made an overwhelming situation feel manageable. She clearly cared about getting the outcome right -- not just functionally, but in a way that restored my confidence. Dr. Wachtel has since moved on, and the staff from my time there has likely turned over completely -- but what impressed me recently is that the current team was just as wonderful. When I reached out years later needing help obtaining my old records for an ongoing medical case, they were responsive, helpful, and went out of their way to assist me without hesitation. That kind of continuity of care and genuine helpfulness -- even for a patient from years ago with a completely different team -- says a lot about the culture this practice has maintained. I came in as a new patient and was blown away by the staff here. Arin was empathetic and quick during my x-rays when the sharp edge digs into the mouth. Arin was very thorough during my dental cleaning from polishing away stains, scaling, laser treatment, and applying fluoride varnish. I felt like I was in good hands. Dr. Grant Simpson came in midway for the dental examination and provided his insight and recommendations on what I could be doing better. I am super happy with the team at La Mesa Dental Artistry; they set the standard of care I expect to receive from other dental offices now. Dr. Simpson and the staff are hands down the best. I've been seeing them for years and always depart having received superior care and treatment. From routine cleanings to crowns, it has been exceptional. Dr. Simpson and the technicians provide comprehensive explanations throughout, keeping informed throughout each procedure. The front office staff are accommodating, positive, and proficient. Worthy of special note is integrity. Expecting to have another crown installed, after Dr. Simpson removed the cracked filling, he informed me the tooth was OK and only required a replacement filling, reducing the bill considerably. I have been coming here for over a year. At first I was really impressed and loved the dentist I saw. But haven't seen her after the first few months. My last cleaning the tech was struggling with the X-ray machine and couldn't get it to work ( I've seen this in someone else's review also) those cardboard things are painful to bite on. I finally refused to have X-rays at that visit. Fast forward to next cleaning coming up, I'm made aware that there now is a 4% CHARGE on credit cards. The work I had done in the beginning was in the thousands. Am I to carry around cash or a checkbook to pay the dentist now??? I am now looking for a new dentist. Just be aware of the additional charges if you unwisely decide to choose this office for your work. read more

Update: Lowering my rating for their lack of concern around COVID and health precautions. I hope they update them for the sake of both their patients and their staff! There was an incredibly disrespectful receptionist I spoke with on the phone. She was terribly rude and dismissive when I requested that the people who work with me at my next appointment wear masks, as I am immunocompromised. I don't know if she knew what "immunocompromised" meant, but she didn't seem to care either. After a lot of back and forth, she did put my request in the notes. It was still a frustrating and dehumanizing process. It made me very stressed, especially given the COVID surge happening then and now. It also shows little interest in the safety of their patients, many of whom are children, the elderly, and disabled people. There was also not even a separate container for used pens or any hand sanitizer at the reception desk. This was standard in a lot of places even before COVID came on the scene. My actual teeth cleaning was great! Amanda did my teeth cleaning. She was amazing! She wore a mask the whole time, had the windows open for air circulation, and was extremely respectful. She answered all my questions thoroughly and politely. She told me she is not usually at Dental Artistry, but she comes in during summer and holiday breaks to help out, as that is when they have the most patients coming in. If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. Dr. Elghor is amazing! I came here for a second opinion on a tooth that had been giving me intense pain for 2 months. I was told I "just grind my teeth". As soon as I came here Dr. Elghor told me I wouldn't be leaving before they figured out what was wrong with me. Immediately she saw a crack in my tooth. Since I've never had many dental problems I was scared but she assured me everything would be ok explaining every step of the process of getting a crown. Turns out I had quite a few more issues that again she saw after other dentists didn't spot the issues and I am so grateful that I came here! Yes of course dental work is expensive and that's not fun but this office is so caring and compassionate I am forever grateful they are my new dentist. The staff is also amazing and everyone here knows me I've been coming so often and they always remember my stories and my history which is nice. La Mesa Dental Artistry(LMDA) Last year I had a cleaning done at LMDA that was pretty frustrating. The hygienist had a very difficult time using the x-ray machine and had to take between 15-20 x-rays of a single tooth. I told her I was done taking X-rays and we had to move on. She had to get a supervisor to convince me to allow her to do one more X-ray. I conceded and it took two more tries. I am not sure if it was the hygienist's inexperience or old X-ray equipment. Regardless, I do not want to expose myself to extra radiation. Fast forward to today, I had another cleaning scheduled with a lady named Erin. When she sat me down she told me they were going to be doing x-rays today. I explained to her I did not want to do X-rays. I just wanted a cleaning. She said, "X-rays are WHAT we are doing." I told her, "WE were not doing X-rays today." and she told me I was going to be dismissed. So I left and I will never go back. In closing, medical treatments are always the patient's choice. I wish LMDA would of let me continue with my cleaning without x-rays. I would guess there is an insurance payment they really wanted to get. I filled a complaint with the California State Dental Board. Let's see what they say. read more

Your smile is the first thing people notice about you. That's why I wanted to try clear aligners. I made the mistake of using an online service. They ended up injuring my teeth. Near the end of treatment. I was so angry that right before I had any symptoms of a dying tooth. I had my 6 month check up with my former dentist. (Not LaMesa dental artistry) They didn't take X-rays. Which I learned they should have. It should be done every 6 months, or at the least they should have done them because my teeth were being moved around. The old X-rays were irrelevant. Immediately after my tooth was sensitive and turning brown. I looked for a new dentist. LaMesa Dental Artistry really took care of me. They got me out of pain, which I appreciate. I couldn't eat or drink anything, unless it was room temperature. Mind you this was recent, and it's been hot as hell lol. Imagine drinking warm water on A 99 degree weather day. I was struggling. The whole staff is knowledgeable and just beautiful people. The Doctor cares to do a good job. I hate being shuttled around. He doesn't give off that hurry up and pay vibe. Great front office staff and dental assistants. However, I had a terrible experience. During my first visit, Dr. Grant Simpson told me I needed three crowns and a filling (none of which were mentioned by my previous dentist who I saw just six months earlier). I had one crown done by Dr. Simpson and shortly after started experiencing severe pain and sensitivity. I mentioned this to him and he told me it would go away. When it didn't, I scheduled and attended two follow-up appointments where I felt like he barely examined my teeth and then told me nothing was wrong. Remind you, this is severe pain. Out of desperation, I visited another dentist who diagnosed the problem in five minutes with one photo and one X-ray. There was a large hole in the tooth beside the one that received the crown. The new dentist said this was an injury that could only have been caused by the crown procedure. When I called Dr. Simpson, he denied any responsibility and only offered me a fraction of the cost of the crown. To boot, I am having a lot of issues with the crown itself and it will probably have to be replaced. read more

I will never go to any other dentist EVER! I had a worker's compensation case that was a worst nightmare in treatment! The dentist office was nothing but a training facility so it seemed! Long story short, I went into office for crown. I had to get repeated shots and prep work done x3. All that just for a crown not to be delivered. Now, I go to regular dentist appointments with total confidence in my doctor, Dr. Simpson. Dr. Simpson is very responsive during ANY procedure and is extremely mindful of any sensitivities I have.
