Went here during a meeting in September…read more I used to live in CT, but had never been here, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. First of all, I drove to this place from Bradley airport in the middle of the night and got a little lost trying to find it. I drove right past it. My GPS was screaming at me to turn left, but from my rental car, it looked just like a school, but the Mercy Center is a bit farther off the road. So, be warned. Good thing that there's a lot of driveways to turn around in on that street (sorry if I woke you up, folks!). Anyway, I stayed here two nights. It's definitely not a resort or hotel, so don't go in thinking you'll get Four Seasons treatment. You'll need to make your own bed, and take off the sheets when you leave. Phone service and wifi were spotty at best in the rooms. I shared a room with two twin beds and an old-looking bathroom. Nothing was outright dirty, but the rooms were showing their age and there were ant traps in the bathroom. But, mamma mia, the water in the showers was hotter than the lakes in Hades! Damn! I almost burned my arms off. The kitchen in the house was decently appointed, our group was able to make tea and coffee in the morning without any issue. We did have lunch in the main center one day--not bad food, a number of choices: soup, a pasta dish, a fish dish, a salad/fruit bar, and a number of desserts. One of the soups was vegetarian, which was nice. Because it's set off the road, it's very quiet and I really found some good time to think there (and since the doggone wifi was a little wonky, what else was I going to do?). Not necessarily the best place for a work meeting, if you need the conveniences of technology, but definitely good for a spiritual retreat.

It was cozy and had a charm that offered a great atmosphere for getting ready the day of! The breakfast could've been better. I'm used to a homemade breakfast when you stay at B&Bs. This was a "continental" breakfast. They did put snacks and drinks out for people to have during the day, which was a nice touch. The place was easy to find and they offered free bicycles to use. There were beach towels and things. You could use the fire pit and corn hole too. They also offered free kayak use down the street. No shortage of things to do.

Just a few minutes from beautiful Southold, a short distance to many vineyards and just seven miles to Orient State Park. You will be treated to an excellent home cooked breakfast prepared with love by Veda. Each day Wilfred served us a big fresh fruit salad, OJ, salad with homemade dressing, followed by a yummy filling breakfast entre. The first day the entre was the best cheese omelet I ever had and sausage with home fries. The second day the entre was corned beef hash, biscuits, plantains, both days muffins, OJ and very fresh coffee. Veda is very accommodating to dietary concerns. When we were done eating Veda came out and we enjoyed wonderful conversations with both Wilfred and Vida. They are warm, interesting, knowledgeable helpful and welcoming hosts. We arrived late on the Jitney, which conveniently drops you off right in front of Arbor View House, and Wilfred was there to greet us with a warm smile and genuine hospitality. The room was tidy, comfortable, and incredibly relaxing. The mattress was excellent, and we slept wonderfully throughout our stay. Each morning, coffee was ready at 8 AM, and we enjoyed wonderful conversations over Veda's delicious homemade breakfasts. The 9 AM breakfast featured a fresh fruit bowl, a beautifully dressed salad, and a flavorful entrée. On our first morning, we had chorizo, cheese eggs with biscuits; on the second, chickpea fritters and salmon cakes. Everything was so delicious that I practically finished it in one bite! Beyond the exceptional quality of the food, what truly stood out was the engaging conversation. Wilfred is incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and has the gift of gab. We loved hearing his stories and insights throughout our stay. The location is also favorable, a short distance from Greenport, and we had no trouble getting around without a car. We enjoyed meeting and chatting with the other guests and genuinely felt welcomed throughout our visit. There is a short walk from where you park to the location of the tree house (and the other units as well). Bert was AMAZING to help us with our cooler and luggage. Next time (and there will be many!) we'll pack lighter as we brought a lot of what they already had. Really just a change of clothes and some toothpaste is all you need here! The outdoor shower, located under the main house, is lovely and well lit. We showered in the evening before bed and felt very safe and comfortable. This is also where the sink is to wash dishes, etc. There's a gas grill as well as a Coleman stove in addition to a fire pit! The tiki torches around the fire pit area are a nice touch. The composting toilet is in a separate room inside the tree house with a door for privacy. The directions are clearly marked and once you get used to it, it's a breeze to use. The space itself was nicely appointed and decorated tastefully and sparingly. One of the days we were there it rained, and we spent the day relaxing, chatting, napping, snacking all dry and cozy in this little slice of contemplative heaven. Highly recommend if you just need to get off the grid for a few days, although there is electricity and fair cell service so you can still Wordle if you must. We're headed back next month, and the month after that,, and the month after that to try out the tiny house and the Octagon house by the brook.
