I booked a car from Hertz last week through my body shop, since Hertz is one of ICBC's preferred suppliers for Roadstar customers. Big mistake. The body shop set it up last week, getting the selection of available vehicles from Hertz in advance, so that I could pick one, which I did. When I went to the body shop as scheduled today to drop off my car and pick up the Hertz car, which was to be brought there at 9.30 am, it never showed up. The body shop and I both called Hertz. First they told me the car I'd booked wasn't available after all, and then they said they had no reservation from me, and tried to blame the body shop for that, suggesting that the body shop was making it all up. It turns out that the guy the body shop had talked to last week at Hertz was gone on holiday, and, apparently, he or the other staff at Hertz bungled the administration of the rental. I wasted half the morning, and I'm going to have to go back to the body shop for another try tomorrow morning. But not with Hertz -- the body shop has gone to another rental company and made sure that a vehicle will be there for me tomorrow. When I called the Hertz people this morning, they weren't very nice. They said they couldn't talk to me because they had "customers" to deal with. Clearly I wasn't a "customer" in their eyes. They didn't offer any solutions, and didn't want my business. read more
