We rented a car through bookings.com. When we arrived at Hertz they said they called us multiple times and said our reservation is cancelled. I did not receive a single call or email for the cancellation and we are traveling in SC without a car. Luckily we could find one elsewhere but they wouldn't even help us find a car. Greedy company. Don't book there because it's the snooze you lose game. We'll book as many people as possible and ensure we get the most bang for our buck but could care less about the consumer. The guy seemed nice and genuine this has nothing to do with how he treated us, but hertz is terrible. I wouldn't even use their equipment for our construction sites. I wish i would have seen the rating beforehand! At the airport, I did not know i needed to have a credit card for the rental as it does not specify anywhere. And no, it is not common knowledge. Then upon picking up my car rental, she cancelled my Orbitz reservation and went directly through hertz without telling me what she was doing making my rate higher. Upon complaining any asking why I got charged a full day when I picked up the car a bit before 7 pm, I was told because I dropped off my car already I couldn't change anything. Katharine was absolutely fabulous and so helpful! I booked my reservation for the wrong day and called to find out my reservation had expired. I was panicking because I thought there wasn't gonna be a car and if there was it was going to be so much more money. She really took care of the situation well and it turned out to be around the same rate as it was initially. I am so grateful to her for all her help. I would definitely recommend this location. FYI: there is no shuttle from the airport to this location so you have to take a taxi or arrange some other transportation here to get your car. read more

hile thinking we were taking advantage of a "pre paid" deal looks like our $195 turned into $500 when all was said and done. Amazing! We booked online and there was a"pre paid" option which saved some $ when purchasing now. Well after returning the vehicle the total was around $525 for everything, ouch! We didn't mind paying the $9.95 per gal charge as we did not refill the tank and knew the charge would be there, but $300 in taxes and such. No damage or anything of that nature, just fees. Not disclosing this information online. We will never use this company again for future car rentals. Thrifty we have used recently for the same number of days , same type of vechicle, and the charges were far less, like $250 less. Never again Hertz. read more

Hey Hertz, you hiring? Because you need to be. We made reservations ahead of our vacation - got to Hertz and the car wasn't even there. Was going to be an hour wait (had already been waiting 20 minutes). There were no other cars in our category so we were going to have to pay $100 more. The poor girl at the front desk was so sweet and helpful. It was just her and one other guy and there were four other people waiting while the phone was ringing off the hook. I have used this Hertz location several times because they excel in customer satisfaction. My recent trip was for pleasure for the weekend. Being a Hertz Gold Member I used my points and only paid taxes. They offered a very comfortable vehicle, clean and comfortable for my trip. You save quite a bit of money by NOT renting at the CHS AIRPORT because they charge an extra fee. I reside on Johns Island so it's the ideal location. I highly recommend that you rent from them, you will be more than pleased you did!! read more

Absolutely horrible. Hertz is in bankruptcy and unable to fulfill orders and will NOT stand behind reservations. We had a rental car reserved at this location two months in advance for our vacation. Four days before we were to pick it up the manager called me to cancel the reservation, telling me they couldn't provide a car. No effort whatsoever to make any arrangements for us to get another car or do anything at all. When I questioned what we should do with four days to go and no car, she told me to call one of their competitors. Really?? Calls to nationwide Hertz number yielded same advice and zero help, we were told local managers retain final decision over what to do with their cars. We had no choice but to go to another rental car company and pay top dollar at last minute. Beware - Hertz is in chapter 11 and will operate at their discretion and corporate will not help customers. You will rent a car with plenty of notice and they will then cancel on you at last minute. Horrible company. Bankruptcy well deserved. read more

A good option if you are in the city and then decide you want a car. This and the other Hertz Local Editions outside the city were a lot cheaper than the other agencies or locations at the airport or in the city. This one is sort of great because it is a short walk from the CARTA 30 bus which runs every 45 minutes from the city from about 6am to 9pm. I didn't get a pick up because there was only one guy there, but they did pay my cab fare partially. In the end, the bus was faster and easier to deal with. read more

They gave me a car with issues, when I went to change it they tried to blame it on me, two months after I get a body damage bill from Hertz for more than $1.000; even though I declared I didn't cause the damage, they didn't make further inquiries about it. Even thought I had full coverage through an external insurance company, I could have saved myself the hustle. I should have paid attention to the bad reviews :( read more

Holy cow where to start. This place is a joke of a business, and I hate to write this about hertz because they are the only company I have ever rented cars from. The 7ft tall manager and Mr. Jarrod Hosea are rudest, most unprofessional people I've ran into in quite some time. I called a week in advance to reserve a truck so I could not miss any work and be out of my apartment before my lease is up, but Jarrod Hosea was going to make sure that didn't happen. I called a week in advance and talked to Jarrod Hosea about getting a truck today, and mentioned that I would need it to have a tow package so I could put my bike rack on it while all the rest of my stuff would go in the bed/cab of the truck. When i spoke to him over the phone, that was completely fine and they were willing to get me a truck that could fill that need for me. I show up the day before just to make sure everything is still good to go and I was told that it was but they didn't have a truck I could look at then but Jarrod Hosea was certain that they would have one today. So I get there today and the only thing capable of using a bike rack was a Tahoe, but I was not an important enough for them to rent the Tahoe to and that my mini van would be here in a half hour. I reserved a truck. Then I show him the bike rack I mentioned to him a week ago and he says that I can not use that on the car because of company rules. Which is a complete lie from what I was told a week ago. I ask for the manager and this guy comes out and says the same thing and offers no such solution to the problem that his employee created. So now I'm screwed and have no way to move out of my apartment because of Jarrod Hosea and his manager of whom I did not get his name. Jarrod Hosea at first told me his name was Jay, then it was JT, then I asked what his last name was and he told the truth about that, so then I just asked for a business card from Jarrod Hosea. He lied to me about the rental car I reserved, lied to me about his name, and his manager fully supported this clown and his actions towards me today. I will never again rent from Hertz thanks to Mr. Jarrod Hosea and his amazing Manager. Congrats Hertz and Jarrod Hosea, you guys lost a loyal customer today!!! read more

Pretty seamless midnight pickup and midday return process, though for some reason Hertz is the only company without large signs in the lot.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND HERTZ! They charged me for gas and probably put gas in their personal cars! READ BELOW!!!!!!!!! Reserved the car online; pick up time at 5pm. Got there at 5pm, completed paperwork and it was apx 5:25pm, i was then told that the car I reserved was no longer available and I would have to wait for 45 minutes until another car was available. Red flag #1, when the sales rep was annoyed that I decline the gas surcharge. I rented the car for 1 day and returned it on time the very next day. I went to the gas station next to the rental and filled the car to the max. I knew about the 200 deposit, but no one said anything about a 100 day fee for each weekend day until they opened again on Monday morning. My 41.00 turned into 471.00!! I was charged 23.00 because my gas tank was only 3/4 fill. I filled the car to the max! I called and right away Jay got defensive and said i was charged because the car was not fill. The car was fill to the point that I could not get any more gas in the tank! I told him that someone's car was filled with gas and it was not the rental car. I have to wait 5 to 10 business days for the charges to drop off and they won't drop all at once! Just scammers!!! I called the corporate office and my gas surcharges will be credited in 5 to 7 business days. This is after Jay said that I did not fill the car up and I will be charged. Just rude and unprofessional on the telephone, I called to get information on my charges and was treated so disrespectful. I will never ever use Hertz rental again!!! I know I filled the car completely up and was told that I was lying in such a hurtful and demeaning way. I don't have to pay for a service and be disrespected. I have a choice and I will take my money elsewhere. Hertz will never ever have me as a customer again. Horrible experience and they inconvenienced me by taking money out and holding it unnecessarily. I am providing such a low rating because I was neglected information regarding my rental. I paid toll costs and yet was still charged for the tolls with an additional administrative fee. When I reached out to Hertz customer service for assistance, a representative hung up the phone on me. Thank God for my banking institute! I have never experience such poor service in my life, bad enough, I waited nearly an hour before receiving my rental. In the future, I would suggest making your customers fully aware of hidden fees and/or charges! Although, I paid the state of Florida for my tolls, Hertz still charged my credit card, $17.41...which definitely exceeds the total costs of tolls encountered. In conclusion, if someone would have taken a second to listen instead of "hang up" on me, perhaps this feedback would have been more positive. Honestly, although the rental took almost an hour to retrieve the staff was very friendly and apologetic, the customer service staff however, was NOT! I'm a relatively new customer to Hertz, I primarily rent with Enterprise and after this horrific encounter I may have to return to them. Such a disappointment! read more

This past Saturday, 6/28/14 I had the worst experience at the airport with a Hertz Manager at the Charleston SC International Airport. My sister is in town visiting me and was having trouble renting a car all day. She was dropped off from another car rental company at the airport where I met her. She had an infant with her and I wanted to get as close as I could without causing any traffic up front so i decided to drive around to the Car Rental lot. I parked my car in the Hertz parking section where my sister was going to rent her car from so I could meet up with her and help her with her infant (note; I was sitting in the car for about 1 minute before I saw this lady with a bright yellow hertz shirt walking towards me). The hertz manager (blonde hair maybe around 30 years of age) came up to me as I was rolling down my windows and told me to not park there. I told her the situation that my sister was trying to rent a car and I wanted to run in to help her with her infant and she told me that i was not allowed to do that. I told her ok and that I understood. I rolled my window up to call my sister to let her know it was going to take me a couple of minutes to get inside the airport since i had to go park in the parking garage. I also had my 2 year old with me so i was trying to get in there to get everything taken care of. Right when i was getting off the phone i saw that she turned around to look to see if i was leaving and i raised my hand to tell her "ok, i got it" I slowly turned out of my parking spot looking both ways( there is a reason i am saying this) and slowly started driving, my son was trying to get my attention so i immediately looked through my rear view mirror and I see the same lady with a bright shirt walking fast towards the back of my car and slammed her hand right into my trunk really hard where it scared my 2 year old and yelled " wrong way, with her hands in the air" Like i said, I was probably out of my parking spot for maybe 5-10 seconds, it first time driving in that parking lot and couldn't really see the arrows. I stopped my car and looked at her and said really?? I pulled up to the next parking spot that was open and immediately turned around so i can go the right way. There were hardly any cars so thankfully i was not blocking any traffic, we are humans we make mistakes but it does not give anyone the right to hit my car!!! What if I was not looking in the rear view as she hit my car and the noise could have scared me causing me to panic and swerve and hit a car??? Who knows, it does not give anyone the right to hit someones personal property, she could have damaged my car. If i was a problem, she should have called the police but i was literally driving for 5 seconds the wrong way. Anyway, I called my sister to let her know what had happened and to report her, i gave my sister the description of the lady that hit my car and my sister saw her walking in and asked her if she was the one who just hit my car and she said "yes i hit her car, i need to get her attention" My sister said you do not need to hit anyone's car, it could of scared my sister or make her panic. She simply walked off and did not care. I went inside to help my sister and went up to a Hertz employee, and reported what happened, he looked at me and was shocked. He said "are you serious, someone from here did that, wow!" He took down the information and said i will have a manager with you right away. I waited with my 2 year old in my arms and my sister with her infant right next to me. I saw the same lady who hit my car standing at the Kiosk acting like she was working, I was standing there for about a minute and she said "yes, how can i help you" I said i am waiting for a manager, she responded and said "i am the manager with an attitude" I said, you had no right to hit my car" she said "yes i did, you were an endangerment to the parking lot going the wrong way" I said " i was not even driving fast and it was for about 5 seconds and I looked at the customers and looked back at her and said am I causing an endangerment now, are you going to hit me next because you had no right hitting my car" she responded and said " do i need to call the police" I said, Yes, please call them. A police officer came to the seen, and I told him what happened. He told me i did the right thing by going inside to report her because people can act out right then at the seen. he suggested me to call Corporate and report her. He also mentioned that earlier that day he was called because the same manager had made another customer upset. When i was done talking to the officer i thought she would have said something or apologize but nope, had the same smirk on her face. I work in customer service and I will never, ever do anything to disrespect my customer or make my company look bad. I am not sure why she is the manager there but obviously i am not the only customer complaining about her. Very very dissatisfied. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had with any company anywhere ever. Me and my fiancé pre paid for a car and when we arrived they told us we needed to put down a $200 deposit on the car. We paid for the car rental moths prior to getting there on a debit card. The cards bank account had been closed out in the time between paying for the rental and picking up the car so we could not use the card to pay for the deposit, we needed to use a separate one. We where told that the card used to pay for the rental and the card for the deposit had to be the same card and there was no other way around it. They told us to call the Hertz corporate headquarters and when we did they where very unhelpful and hung up on us after being on the phone for 20 minutes. while we where having problems, another customer to our side was also having problems with the company representatives. After we asked to speak to a manager, a 20-something blonde braided haired girl with nothing on to signify she was even a Hertz employee strolls in and starts to gossip with the two desk people about the customer who was having problems next to us. We where left alone to try and figure out how we can get a service that we had already paid for. After speaking to this so called "manager", I should have ordered rosettaStone, waited a week for it to arrive, lean how to speak Afrikaans, flew to Namibia and talked to one of the locals in Afrikaans about how to tie my shoes because that would have been a whole hell of a lot more helpful than this manager was. towards the end of us trying to figure out how to make this situation better (we ended up doing so by going to Budget to rent a car instead) an employee had come in and was staring to voice his unhappy feelings about his co-workers and the company. The manager took the unhappy employee and the two desk people to the back office to chat. They left the entire front desk completely empty. So that's two customers they have upset an one employee. We where fed up after an hour and a half and walked away. As we went into our new rental car purchased from Budget, we heard another customer walk up to the Hertz desk and complain that she had been waiting there for two hours for her car and that she was upset! I will now make it my mission to make sure everyone understands how much of a piece of junk this company is along with its employees. read more

Went to a family reunion in Darien, GA, with my wife and her family. It was great to see everyone again. Looking forward to next year's gathering at the same location. Stayed at the Best Western Plus in Brunswick, GA. Close to where the gathering was and also i the middle of the Golden Isles. Planning on staying either at the same place or possibly closer to Darien if we book a location fast enough. Also, we really want to spend some time visiting the local sights. Looking forward to renting another GREAT HERTZ VEHICLE, and we couldn't have been happier with it.
