Hate to leave bad reviews but this place was horrible from get go. Originally was told the insurance company renting the car (I was rear was rear ended) was paying for it and rented for 3 days. When called back because rental was extended, was told I was responsible for insurance even though manager told me it was covered. Then when rental extended further thru following Monday, returned then and now td Insurance changed the date where car was due back Saturday yet neither Hertz nor Insurance I formed me of the change. plus put on eternal hold when called The location and then hung up on. Hertz location on Bacons Bridge Rd has horrendous customer service! Went in to rent a car and the agent behind the desk totally profiled my daughter because of her tattoos and purple hair. This agent fed my daughter a bunch of lies. Then an another agent came back from break, when said second agent spoke it was goobley goop. Both agents could use with a refresher course in manner and how to work with the public. read more

Hertz reservations is terrible! Had a confirmation and a decent price....reservations canceled my reservation because they added my loyalty number.....who knows why? Not a person I talked to knew the English language or could understand it....asked multiple times to talk to an English speaking supervisor. Finally I got someone that could speak and at least listen to a customer's concern instead of just reading a computer generated response. Terrible customer service! read more

Terrible service. At airport there is no indication that you can't get the car at the lot. So we walked to lot, it was deserted with no one at the Hertz kiosk. The board had an error message and no one was there to help. Returned to desk and then told there were no cars ready. Not like we didn't make this reservation months in advance. if i could give negative stars, i would. i rented a car in another state and dropped it in charleston, unfortunately, they did not check it in properly and it was re-rented the same day to ft. lauderdale, fl and i got charged for the extra 500+ miles. two months later i am still fighting with hertz corporate office to get a refund. never, will i ever rent from hertz again. even worse, it is on my government credit card so i am telling all of my government coworkers to skip hertz on the choices for rentals on their request for orders. i have filed a complaint with the defense travel management office and the better business bureau. read more

I'd I could give 0 stars I would. My car had to go Kia dealership for an engine test- warranty recall on Tuesday. I used Priceline to reserve a car from Hertz for the couple days the test would take. On Tuesday I picked up the rental from Hertz at 2pm- gave them my credit card for the deposit. He tried manually to enter the info but said his system wasn't accepting the card because of an address issue. Never had the card at any other address but whatever. He asked me to then just put it in the card reader and "we'll do it that way". I also paid the Kia preferred customer rental fee for 2 days of 97.75. On Thursday I called and asked what the charge would be to keep the car pones more day because my schedule was wrecked and I had no time. He stated that now he's have to redo the rates because it isn't prepaid anymore and it would be an additional $104. I said no thank you, I'll be there by 2 to return it. Not only did he charge me an additional 121.00 because he upped the rate even tho I brought it back, he charged me late fee even tho my receipt shows I was actually 14 minutes early and charged my deposit twice ( cc pending charges show 1 at manual entry and 1 at credit card reader). He dismissed me when I questioned these charges and eventually just said " not everything gets charged upfront, sometimes the taxes and fees as additional costs". I called cooperate who will be refunding me. I'll never rent there again. read more

I ordered a compact car one week before my rental. I called the day before to confirm. They told me, "Oh, yes ma'am! We have your compact!" I also asked if I could get a ride to pick it up, but she said they don't do that on Saturdays. Fine, whatever, but if you're going to tell me that, you probably shouldn't be driving some guy somewhere when I go in to pick up the car. I show up at the place to pick it up at the confirmed time, and what do you know -- no compact car. The attendant didn't act like she could care less and said she offered me an "upgrade" into a large SUV. I politely asked if I would be able to switch, but she was so nonchalant about it. How can you guarantee me a compact car -- one that takes less gas, one that I'm comfortable with, and one that I REQUESTED -- and then not have one? Giving me an SUV that gets 20MPH is the opposite of an upgrade to me. I know it's petty, but I was really disappointed. read more

If you are dropping your car off after hours or at a different location beware. I filled the car up with gas drove 2 blocks and parked it a couple days later there was a charge on my credit card for 41 dollars and some change. I called and they said it was because the car did not have a full tank of gas. I will never recommend Hertz to anyone nor will I never book through them again. read more

I had a reservation for 9AM and there was one customer ahead of me. It took the manager almost 30 minutes before he got to me. Once the manager got to me, he asked for my ID and credit card. I told him I had a debit card and he said he couldn't rent to me with a debit because I didn't rent 24 hours in advance. So I asked him, if he ran my debit card, it wouldn't got through and he said that's not that it wouldn't but it's our policy. Where should i even begin with my awful experience with Hertz?!?! I too, would give this place and location a zero star if it were possible. Pete, the guy who took care of me (or failed attempt to try rather) had no customer service what so ever or any sort of communication skills. He was an absolute idiot to say the least..when i originally booked my rental i chose a small compact vehicle for a reason because where i was going on vacation doesn't have the parking for a big vehicle, nor did I need a big vehicle traveling with 1 other person..that's why we're given the choice right? to accommodate right? well, as soon as i walk in he tells me that the ONLY car available is a big mini van. So of course I'm kind of frustrated because that is the exact OPPOSITE of what i needed and the exact opposite of what i was told i was getting and not at all the kind of service I expected upon arrival. I ended up having to settle with the mini van as there was no other vehicle in the lot. As I'm doing paper work he tells my mother that she is unable to drive because her ID wouldn't scan, as he admits that is a flaw within THEIR scanner because "this kind of thing happens all the time with these new SC licensees". That doesn't sound like my problem, does it? I mean....that is the state we live in? .(I have all of this recorded) Four days later, when i return the vehicle (after filling the car up completely with gas), good ole Pete comes out to check the vechicle and tells me that the tank isnt filled with gas completely even though i JUST left the gas station and fully filled the mini van. He said he was going to have to charge me and additional $23 if it wasn't filled so i then took the RENTAL ONCE AGAIN, back to the gas station....would anyone like to know how much i was able to squeeze into the already filled tank? $2.38....I will never in my lifetime go through Hertz for a rental again, i should've read the previous reviews before even going through them, would've taken a hint. All i can say is if you're looking for a rental PLEASE use any other place than Hertz. ESPECIALLY the one located on Rivers Ave.. This is by far the worst service i have ever received. read more

Not the best Hertz I have been to. Needs an office upgrade, carpet is gross. Now the car itself was a Ford focus, it had a broken windshield wiper and of course during my ride I hit alot of rain. Couldn't find another hertz to swap out with so I just let it go. Also it didn't run great. Very loud. It had 44,000 miles which is pretty high for typical rentals I get, it probably just needed a little work. Lack of a drop off key box was kind of inconvenient also The staff was very helpful and polite, hence the 4 star rating. read more

Super easy check in and check out. I was not happy with the size car I selected online and the lady was patient with me while I checked out the other sizes and models available. Check out was a breeze also. Drew did a quick check and sent me on my way. I wish I could score them lower not only were they unprofessional and seemingly unwilling to help me they rented me a car with a bald tire and a wretched smell. When I requested a replacement the sale clerk rattled off a list of locations I could call in order to try to find another car, then seemed annoyed when I ask that she do it. After making he calls see looks up at me and says "they don't have any cars either I don't know what to tell you." Then she suggested I take the car in for a tire change. It was all very confusing. I am the customer I DON'T SERVICE YOUR VEHICLES! Thank goodness my friends over at Caliber Collison on Fain St. took care of my car quickly and I was no longer in need of HERTZ RENTAL CAR so I left that cappy rental right where I first encountered it with a full tank of gas and a partially deflated tire Shame shame shame. Every experience here has been a nightmare. Rented a car and they sent me off in a dented up vehicle. Ac wouldn't cool the vehicle and wasn't cold, transmission shifted extremely rough (bucked), and when you hit a bump in the road, the car would pull to the right into the neighboring lane (judging by the major dent, something had to have been loose or bent from the impact). Spent 5 hours on the phone trying to swap out for a SAFER vehicle, to no avail. Finally got a different vehicle when I threatened told them I was in my way back to just return the car. The replacement vehicle was fine. When I showed up to return, the manager said he'd "hook us up" on the next rental with a sizable upgrade and also offered us a $50 voucher. When we called a week out for our next rental, I spoke to Chase, who set me up with an SUV and told me the total for the rental would be a specific amount. He never sent an email and apparently phone callas ARE NOT recorded. When we showed up, we were told the total was for 4 days less than what we requested. When we said how long we needed the vehicle 4, it added almost $200 more into the contract. We started questioning them and was told there was nothing they could do to help us out or to even attempt to right the situation. This put us well outside the allotted amount we would get reimbursed from our insurance company. They also told us we were to blame for not confirming. How can that be done without even an email showing up? If the employee made a mistake, and said the wrong thing over the phone, how would I ever know!? It honestly felt like a scam the way they played it off. As far as that "upgrade", it just so happened they didn't have anything available so they couldn't even follow through on that. On top of that, they hit you with service charges and fees for every little thing. The manager even had the nerve to say, "you should be greatful because we gave you a voucher last time". (Remember that happened after 5 hours on the phone, countless times being disconnected, and an insane amount of frustration. Plus it delayed a 900 mile trip I was supposed to start as soon as I picked up the vehicle, with the time spent pleading for a different vehicle.) I'll be returning to enterprise for my future rentals after 2/2 bad experiences here less than a month apart. Initial rates may look cheaper, even if they do manage to give you the proper total over the phone, but all the extras make it more expensive than other rentals we've had from other companies in the past. Besides the bad experience with two rentals, the employees working in their front office were lazy and seemed inconvenienced by customers coming in. They had no sense of urgency to walk out to inspect the vehicle, I've honestly never seen such a lack of effort from someone, for only walking out to a parking lot, around a vehicle without even really looking at it, and then waking back to the store. They also never gave a proper greeting, were on their phone ignoring customers, and would have inappropriate and vulgar conversations between each other and "friends" that would walk in. This location is extremely unprofessional and just seems like a poor excuse for a franchise store and should really be reviewed by corporate Hertz. read more

Absolutely Insane!!! Rented a small vehicle for one day and was charged a $200 deposit and the rental fee of $123 for the day. After returning my car and dropping the keys in the drop box at the now unmanned rental place, my account was charged an additional $200 until someone was in to close out the transaction...All in all, and after speaking with their Corporate Headquarters. I now have a $523 hold on my checking account funds which may be held for up to 5 business days. Be aware people...read your online agreement very carefully. We will Never rent from Hertz again and I will be sure to post this everywhere I can on social media so people can be made aware. Frequent customer of Hertz, would've never guessed it has gotten this bad. Run away fast. Not sure what was worse, the terrible customer service, the filthy location, the fraud and robbery that took place with myself or the accountability of every team member there. I made a reservation months ahead of time only to be called two hours ahead of pick up, telling me that they don't have my vehicle. Six hours later they finally had a vehicle which was a downgrade to the vehicle I pre-paid for, however there was no compensation for the lesser value. We looked around the vehicle and the vehicle appeared to have been in an accident with dents on the front and driver side along with the rear seat ripped open like an orange peel. Beyond that, no one had even attempted to clean the vehicle either. The assistant manager there Mr. Bradley attempted to clean the vehicle, but during our 10 day rental, we were still picking out old french fries and mud on the last day. I finally had enough with it and looked inside at the gas gauge only to find a half a tank of gas. I guess in their mind compensating me a empty gas return was good enough compared to all of this. When I tried to bring the vehicle back in at the end of the rental I talked with the same person and reminded him of all the catastrophes I had went through with this rental. He stated that he felt they compensated me enough with the free refill of gas at return. I reminded him how long I had the vehicle and how the vehicle I was given typically rents for at sometimes $15 less than what I paid for. Again he stated the free gas was enough. His manager was on site but refused to come up and even talk with me, it was obvious he just wanted me to go away so he kept having the gentleman stand tall until his third trip back for insight. At that point he had offered me a $25 discount towards any future rental. With my experience you can guess I left that on the table and told them I would rather them have that money and I have the ability to inform the rest of the world about their terrible service. Worst rental experience ever. Stay away from these crooks. read more
