Worst,worthless , incompetent, terrible. I don't know if they even train people working for them,seems like nobody knows a thing of what they are doing. We rent a car for a month in Hertz(Downtown Chicago). In 2.5weeks time,car won't start,the theft sign is on. Calling the company,car report returned and then stolen. Going through with the rep,that finally (after many 2hours on the line)reactivates the car. Next day my husband takes my son to his hockey training to the ice rink. Going out from the game,car-gone! Calling police, filing the case,the police officer calls Hertz and... THEY Don't EVEN SHARE the car's GPS... Turns out,the car is still filed "missing" in Hertz system,since nobody cared to changed the status. We have over 250$ expenses on Uber thanks to all this. Next thing after 3days they give us other car and inform us that the 1 st car(that was towed by Hertz) is in the airport. They suggest we file lost and found for our belongings,that THEY took. This is the worst hertz location I've ever been to. First, when I came to pick up the car, there was no one at the desk until over an hour later. They're understaffed and turns out the employee was in the garage cleaning the cars. They should at least put a sign! Upon turning on the car, the car was in bad shape. Engine oil light went off. And then a few days later the car battery died. Luckily a friend was nearby and came to my rescue to jumpstart the car. Then I decided to return the car late at night, a day earlier. I thought there would be a key drop box but nope. I had to fork up $79 to park the car overnight at the Hyatt. It's a little sketch and liability issue too since hyatts valet takes care of it but I was so exhausted and wanted to go home. read more

Do not bother calling when trying to get info on existing reservations. First you get a robot that eventually offers to connect you with a local employee. When selecting the option though it just ends the call automatically. Terrible. read more

I would give them 1 star if I could. Their hours were listed that they were open until 5pm I called at 3pm and every time someone picks up they hang up and say nothing. This is the worst customer service and if you don't want to work in customer service you need to find another job. Please rent from Enterprise!! Atleast they are answering the phone. read more

I had to take a taxi ( it cost me $50.00) got to the "Shedeland location" at. 4 pm and they were closed... Called Hertz customer service (outsources in some country that did not speak English very well) and got told they could do nothing about it and was hung up on. TWICE!!! FINALLY CALLED AVIS at the airport and got a car but I had to taxi back to the airport, another $50. ... Screw HERTZ. Never again!!! Oh yah Hertz want $50 to cancel my reservation!!!!!!! read more

I'm going to be as brief as possible. I used the Lyft express hertz vehicle for 15 months and I was a very bad decision. One reason is because Hertz Elston location lied to my face by promising I can return vehicle with zero gas return limit and to look for a credit on my account for days non use ( 12/31-01/02 ). People who drive for any share rides no the values of those days. Today I return the car and my balance owed is ridiculous. I have called over 20 times and left several voice messages with the at this location manager Shavon Lacey (she was the 2nd person that made the promise ). The humiliation I experienced when I was told to contact Lyft bc Hertz done their part. Someone need to be held accountable as I spent over $27,000 renting from Hertz last year! read more

Returned the car on time at this location, no receipt or whatsoever was issued, you basically have to drive to the parking garage of the hotel and leave the car to valets that are not hertz employees. After a couple hours since the car return, since I did not get receipt via email from Hertz as usual, I went to the Hertz desk in the hotel and they told me that everything was ok, that they were just busy downstairs. The following day I checked with my bank and I noticed a $100 charge on my credit card. Called Hertz helpline (desk at hotel is closed on sunday), they told me that the contract was still open and that I was being charged for extra day and that they issued a notification to the site to close the contract. Unbelievable. Hertz desk in hotel is closed on sunday, so I have to wait another day before they take care of the issue (and I am flying out). Basically the car was not scanned at arrival. It is not the first time I have issues with Hertz (fuel charged randomly two times, had to call and demonstrate with receipts that I refueled), but this is simply ridiculous and close to a scam. I spent 2 hours of my vacation going back to hotel and calling cusomer care and issue is still pending. I think of people that are not constantly checking their cc online, this is definitely a shady way to operate a business. I am a hertz gold member, but this is the last time I am renting with Hertz. read more

My complaint comments: I do not recommend using Hertz unless you are more than fine with hidden fees, poor service, and in general paying a lot more than you were quoted once you're already locked in. "I was very displeased with my experience renting from Hertz. I've had to make 3 billing inquiries concerning overages and misquotes. The website significantly underquoted what I actually ended up paying. 103.48 was my original quote. When I arrived I was told several other fees and etc which rose my amount to $149.88 and finally, my actual charged amount that was taken from my card was $178.78. You can imagine my frustration. [The car was returned in exact same condition with a full tank of gas as instructed] Furthermore, the $200 deposit was not mentioned upon my online order confirmation nor was the underage DAILY fee of $15 a day. I sincerely suggest that these quotes be mentioned Online, and before your customers put in an order so that they don't end up paying nearly double what they are told. If I had known the amount before confirming I would have not confirmed. It's just bad business. I will not be using your services again despite the multiple future dates I will be needing to rent a car. Okay, here's the deal: Unless it is MASSIVELY inconvenient, you want to rent your car from Delores at this location. Call & ask for her. She is the kind of person you want on the other side of the desk when you are renting a car. My situation involved needing a rental car delivered to me at an auto repair shop inconvenient to public transportation & cabs etc. Hertz sent a guy out to pick me up with the car the insurance company was paying for me to have while the repair was going on. Nice clean car. Even had a snow brush in the back seat, and there was a toll road transponder if I needed one. Pleasant pickup guy. We had to go to the Wacker location for me to sign paperwork, which went quickly & smoothly. I returned the car directly to the location with no problems except that there was a computer glitch so I didn't get a printed receipt. But Delores emailed one to me. read more

After renting from a Hertz off-airport location last year I was leery going in. No need. The woman working there was fantastic and helpful in every way. She offered extra coverage but in no way made me feel uncomfortable when I declined unlike the "gentleman" I encountered at a location on Mannheim last year. Can I give Delores 10 stars? I am moving, and the movers came late, so I missed the window for picking up my rental and lost our car. But Delores worked overtime to get us another, better car. And when I showed up to pick up the car, she greeted me warmly. She then checked us in quickly and efficiently. I will not rent from Hertz again, even though it is the closest to me geographically and I had just joined their Gold program. The people at the local desk were helpful and pleasant with my first rental, but unfortunately, Hertz's abysmal national "customer service" as I was trying to rent a second time online negates the local efforts. It should tell you something when the company's "customer service" page (https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/customersupport/index.jsp?targetPage=faq.jsp) has an option to "Call the Hertz team"...and when you click on that option, you get a page that says "No results found." Heed that red flag! The situation: I was in the middle of an online reservation, on step 3 of 4, when the website flaked out and wouldn't go to the next step--just kept looping back to the same page. At that point, it had already accepted my credit card info, so I figured it was just a glitch and, after taking a screen shot of my reservation and total amount, I refreshed the screen--at which point the reservation rate now came up as $409 instead of $275. I understand that rental rates fluctuate all the time. However, I have never encountered a situation with any other rental company where the rate wasn't locked in once I had already entered my credit card info and was 3/4 of the way through --and was completing the reservation in a timely fashion. It's not like I got up and wandered around during the process. I assumed this was an error that Hertz would be happy to correct. Boy, was I wrong. Since their "customer service" page listed no phone number, I tried the chat feature. I explained the situation and the "customer service" rep first said, "if it didn't go through, your credit card was declined." I assured her it was not declined; that it had been accepted with no problem and took me to the next (3rd) screen. When that didn't get rid of me, she next said "then you just have to rent at the rate on the screen." I told her that's exactly what I was trying to do--the rate that was on the screen when I was 3/4 of the way through the process. She said "you can't get that rate now" and I asked her to "put a supervisor on, please." Instead, she ended the chat with no further comment. I googled their customer service number since they didn't find it necessary to include it on their website. First spoke to a rep who was apologetic but couldn't do anything about the rate; however, he said that since it sounded like a technical issue, he would transfer me to the "Internet help desk." I explained the situation to a woman named Josie, agent #0321 (not likely a real number), who told me I hadn't finished the reservation fast enough (gee...and I thought proceeding directly from screen to screen was how you were supposed to do it) and that the rate "is what it is." When I tried to interject, she talked over me; clearly she is experienced at taking this attitude with people all day long. Josie is another reason you should not give Hertz your business; this is Hertz's version of "customer service." So I promptly booked with their competitor--you know, the guys who "try harder"--at a rate of $261. I would strongly suggest you avoid Hertz since it is obvious they don't have any mechanisms or people capable of correcting problems with their reservation system, and they have a bad attitude to boot. What a wonderful wonderful way to return our car after a crazy day of traveling. Delores was a breath of fresh air and we could tell that she truly loves what she does. When we called to find out where this location was - she was great to explain where we actually needed to go to return the car vs. the physical address. After chatting with her on the desk - we noticed that she puts handwritten notes on everyone's contracts to try and brighten their day. What a wonderful hire for Hertz. Lady at front desk was incredibly nice and helpful but the valet experience was abysmal. 25 to 30 minute delays with no line, for no apparent reason. Would recommend showing up way early or using a different provider. read more

I've only rented from Hertz for some time now, and have been to more than my fair share of locations. While its kind of clunky to pick up and return your car to the lower valet of the Hyatt, the folks at Hertz here are awesome! Friendly, helpful, would go out of my way to rent from here again. read more

We did not have a good rental experience. Received a call they don't do hotel pick up although we booked it that way through the Hertz website. Paid a taxi to get there. Shuttle/transport driver showed no desire to demonstrate common courtesy. Will not rent there again read more

I went to the Hertz website to rent a car, they offered free delivery so I opted to have my car delivered to me. On the morning that my car was to be delivered I received no call from them and tried calling them. They did not pick up even though it was operating hours. I got a cab to the Hertz facility and went to the front desk to find that they didn't offer delivery on the weekends even though the website confirmed that I had a delivery! I then asked why they didn't answer my calls, and was told that they were too busy to. I then got my car. I ordered a Toyota Corolla, got a Kia Forte, close enough. Car was clean and worked well, was new. Upon returning I found that all the Hertz spots were taken. They did NOT have enough parking spaces for all their cars. I parked in a space nearby their reserved Hertz spaces and left them a voicemail and note and dropped off my key. The next day I found that I was being charged $100 on my credit card for each day it wasn't in a Hertz space. I gave them clear instructions by voice mail and note on how to get to the car, it is right by where all the other Hertz cars are. I cannot move the car because I already left the key in the key drop off! It is ridiculous that I am likely going to have to cancel my credit card and take them to small claims court for the hundreds of dollars in deposit + late fees because of their own incompetence and improper allocation of reserved spaces. Edit: The additional billing has been corrected, I will give them credit for that. Their inability to deliver a car they promised still earns them a 2 star. read more

Delores at Hertz was wonderful - again! I rented a mini van on fairly short notice and she ensured the vehicle would have the capacity to meet my needs. I rent vehicles fairly often across the country and this particular Hertz location has the best service - Hertz should have Delores teach a class on customer service! read more

My wife had put in a reservation earlier this week to be picked up this morning. Due to work, she wasn't able to pick it up in time and had her assistant call in to let them know which they told her was fine, she could come later. When she showed up, she was informed they had cancelled her reservation because she was a no show. After 0 attempts to call her, they decided to cancel. Wife: "Are there any cars I can get now?" Hertz Rep: "No." Wife calls her assistant, who books a car online at the same location immediately. I have no problems with Hertz as a company and will continue to rent from them in the future, but the reps working this office were terrible based on this experience. read more

The people and the convenience of not having to pay for overnight parking is why I rent from this location. Deloris is great at Customer Service and a pleasure to work with for my rental car needs. The Hyatt valet staff can be slow so you need to allow time to pick up the car. All and all, you can't go wrong with Deloris and Hartz in downtown Chicago. read more
