This was the worst experience I've ever had with a rental company. Went to a a different location to pick up a rental for the interim, and the car was completely trashed. This hertz location was on my way back home from work so I stopped to exchange, as the car was giving me hives from a pet being in it and filthy dirty. The manager was beyond rude and completely dismissive of the issue. She treated her other employee horrible and was downright rude to me when it came to talking about the situation. I rent cars almost every month, but have never used this Novi Rd. location before. That was accidentally to my benefit as now that I have used this location, I will never return. The manager at the Novi store refuse to email a copy of the contract because she says they can't email another contract because of the way the system works but they never emailed One to begin with they printed out someone else's contract for us and now they're saying we have to go out of our way to pick up a printed out copy in case we get pulled over. Do NOT use this location. -Dirty cars, broken hatches, smells like marijuana, untrained staff, long wait times, 1/4 tank of gas, the list goes on... I have rented several vehicles here as a Gold member status, and I have yet to have a good experience. 3 out of the 5 vehicles I have rented, had less than a full tank of gas. On top of that, if you return a vehicle with more gas than you started with, they don't give you a refund or take money off for the extra gas you bought. But if you return it with less gas, they charge you $10 a gallon. So you have to fill it up exactly where the tank was when you rented it. 1 of the 5 vehicles I rented were actually cleaned efficiently. Almost all of them had splatters on the steering wheel or consoles. One of them smelled like marijuana and had all my stuff smelling like it when the trip was done. 1 of the vehicles had a broken rear auto hatch, so I had to swap out a vehicle and it took them 20 minutes to get me into a different one. Just hand me the keys and do the paperwork when I leave, don't waste my time. The employees are not well trained. Every time I went in there, the lady had to ask a manager for help, leaving me waiting. One of the guys mumbles so softly I couldn't even tell he was talking to me. One lady even had the nerve to say "oh no, we might not have a vehicle for you" the last thing a customer wants to hear when I rented it 2 days prior on the app. The final thing that made me never go back. They failed to inform me that their lot was getting re-done and later told me in order to drop the keys off during off hours I had to park at a school down the street and walk to the Dropbox and leave a note where I left their car. Nobody on site - after spending 45 mins on the phone I was told by the local manager that they had "left early for the weekend." I was told I had a car waiting for me if I could get to the other side of the county in 10 minutes somehow but that they wouldn't stay late to accommodate me. Tried to get me to pay a "no show" fee. Absolutely unprofessional staff. Horrible service. I had booked a tesla for a month and the reservation mentioned that the vehicle was guaranteed. However the branch staff called me 2 hours prior and said the vehicle isn't available and that they had no clue when I'll get the vehicle I booked. Offered a non tesla some 30 miles away even though there are like 3 other Hertz locations nearby! When questioned about the guaranteed Tesla on reservation, they kept denying it. Would give 0 if that was an option. Picked up a car from them at 1/8 tank when they could not bother to fill it up with a gas station literally a block away. When I started packing noticed that the car was not even cleaned. Called to complain and "manager" claimed he cleaned it himself (obviously needs training) found toys and crumbs all over. Hertz claims they put clean a sticker certifying vehicle has been cleaned and sanitized but no sticker... but they did have many other stickers and paint marketed on the glass with writing that could not be removed. Asked if they would replace the vehicle and was told that they did not have any cars and I would have to go to the airport. Overall a lousy dirty car and awful service. My SUV rental has been an absolute nightmare. I reserved a three row seat SUV two months in advance for an annual golf trip. When I show up, I hear other customers talking very disappointedly. One can't get their vehicle, another wants to extend their rental and got refused. One of their two computers was down. So when I actually got my vehicle, I felt lucky, and didn't mention that the vehicle was FILTHY and that though the ticket said I was getting a gas tank 40% full, the gas gauge reflected EXACTLY 1/8 of a tank. That's 12.5% not 40%. When I returned my vehicle eight days later, I followed the parking and drop box instructions precisely since it was a Saturday evening. Then I started getting $173/day additional charges for four straight days. I tried to call the Hertz location since I had driven my own vehicle to Wisconsin and there is no way to actually call their location. Voice mail merry-go-round hell! Today I get a message to call Hertz, from a computer. So I call the 800 Hertz number and wait on hold listening to music for 20 minutes. Then I speak with a Mark, a call center representative in the Philippines! He informs me that my contract wasn't yet closed out. After another 20 minutes of repeatedly answering the same questions over and over, he says he has closed out my contract. We'll see. I have already alerted Bank of America of possible fraudulent or disputed charges. 35 reviews with an average 1.5 stars rating says a whole lot. Hertz should just shut down this location permanently and save themselves further embarrassment. I'm old enough to remember when Hertz was regarded as the gold standard. Now they don't even wash the vehicles or attempt to clean them at all. Pathetic customer service. And they play the same God-awful music while you wait an eternity on hold. The Most Horrible Service Ever! The staff (Nasim) failed to listen to times of my arrival and departure. When my mom and I came to get the car on the morning of our trip, after explaining our times earlier that week, the rate went up. We waited for the manager, Asia to help us but she did not - all the while, helping other customers, laughing, and acting as if she didn't understand our situation. If you are looking to rent a car from Hertz I suggest you look anywhere else. My family and I have had multiple bad experiences with this car rental company no matter which location but the last experience my family and I had was unforgivable. To describe the situation, we had a trip planned and had made the reservation to rent an SUV 9 months in advance to take us to the airport as we are a 5 person family with luggage for a 10 day trip. We had heard nothing from them after our reservation until 4 hours before we were supposed to pick up the car. Then we received a call from the manager Mike from the Hertz location on Novi road in Novi Michigan where he stated that he no longer has the car we had reserved which when we asked why we lost our reservation or if there is anything else he could do he told us that he could give us a 4 door sedan with an added fee for reserving last minute. We then explained to him that we have 5 people and luggage and that a 4 door sedan would not be sufficient where he told us there was nothing he would do even after we brought up the idea of taking two of these sedans. Mike was completely unhelpful and could not explain to us why he did not have our car which we had reserved a sufficient time before. This was unacceptable as we now had to scrabble hours before leaving to find another way to the airport. Because of this Hertz will no longer be used by any member of my family of which we are Gold members and our business which has used the company in the past. This was a total disappointment to us as this manager and location had completely let us down during a stressful time. We want to make it completely aware that Hertz will no longer be used and we recommend it should be avoided by others as well as they set you up for disappointment and don't respect reservations in advance as they are only out to make a profit and have no interest in pleasing the customer. Heed this warning as this is not the first bad experience with this car rental company however it will be our last. read more

My car is in the shop and I'm 100% disabled veteran. I have no means of transportation to get to the location and have been a gold member for over 12 years. I was told I'd be able to get a pick up to bring me to the location for the rental. When I called them to come get me they told me I was too far away which is only 12 miles and the manager refused to come get me. I picked up a car from Anderson, SC; nice staff and management., they gave me discount on an upgrade. I was supposed to drop off the car in this location on Saturday 8:00 AM but since I was close to the location I dropped it off the night before on Friday at 11:30 PM. I call them to see if everything is alright with the car and to confirm the final charge, first, they were trying to charge me $200 more; the agent was claiming I returned the car on Friday and since they processed it on Monday so I am responsible for Saturday and Sunday. Long story short, after 30 minutes on the phone he dropped he price down but still was charging me $12.00 more than what they supposed to for 1 day late fee. They were claiming they didn't see the car on Saturday and they refused to check the security cameras. Management didn't help either. read more

They lady told me I will only need to pay 29 bucks for the whole thing including tax, I asked her for reassurance 3 times I will have the vehicle returned the next day end of day, she said I would only be charged for one day. Worst experience EVER. PAID FOR A RENTAL Tuesday, and they gave it to someone else! I was late for my trip because I had to drive to a different location, even though I had PAID FOR THIS CAR TO BE HERE WHEN I ARRIVED. Pack your patience if renting a car from this place. Even as a gold member, my contract was not ready upon arrival. Had to wait for a staff member to come back to the office before even starting the car pick up process. Every rental with other Hertz locations is a quick transaction. As a gold member, the contract should be printed and ready for pick up. Again, when returning the car, had to wait for the staff member and then was told I could not leave until they completed all of the "paperwork". Awful customer service I rented a 2020 car fr this place and had mechanical problems from the time I drove out of the parking lot till the time I dropped it off. The tire went flat every hundred miles when I called the desk he said just make sure you keep it filled and we will fix it when you get back, extremely unprofessional. All the sensor lights kept popping on and off the whole trip, the breaks were grinding and to top it all off there was someone's dirty nasty used mask under the seat along with 2 cubes of cheese and a lot of dirt and a half used pack of cigarettes in the center console, so this tells me they do not sanitize or clean out these vehicles between rentals. I'd stay away from this place the guy behind the counter did not want to hear about the cars faults and I'm sure they did not fix them the guy behind the counter was also extremely rude and pushy I will never use Hertz again. read more

I booked my car through priceline for a week long vacation as they had the best rate for the large SUV we needed. When I went to map this location on our way there, i saw that it had 1 star and started to panic. (My dad is disabled, we needed to get the correct car). Everything was fine. Just as any other rental car place. Perhaps we got lucky, but we had none of the issues in the other reviews. No, they weren't like singing and dancing a happy customer service tune, but we walked in, and walked out with our car as reserved 20 min later. They did walk us to the car, answered all our questions. We even got a free upgrade because they didn't have the size SUV we reserved. They waited while we ordered priceline rental car insurance on our phone in the office after finding out theirs was way to expensive. No complaints. read more

This is the second time I have rented from this location that my rental car was not ready when I arrived, even after reserving it a month in advance. No prior call either to inform of this status. If you are renting from this location for personal use the delay may not be an issue, however, when renting for company use and on a schedule to arrive at a meeting at a particular time this is extremely inconvenient. This location is ran like a joke! I was forced to choose this company due to my insurance coverage and let's just say they are not reliable. Confirmation number was not found in their system after booking my reservation one day before pick up. I asked to receive lyft pick up and was told the day of that they need an 1 hour advance notice which was not mentioned during the time of reservation. Tired calling the day of just to double check on my pick up and and no one answered. I was left stuck at the collision repair shop for 2 hours until I said screw it and got my own ride. We needed a rental car for the holidays to drive to my sister out of state, so we pre-paid one so we could just pick the car up. The only car they had left was a Toyota Yaris (which we NEVER would've fit in and that wasn't even the category of car that we PRE-PAID for). First thing I rented a car through my company portal and they said It does not show your company name so I need to pay for it. After taking the car on a Friday evening, No one came out with me to show the car and explain the car they just pointed it out from inside their office!! I drove back home and the car was smelling as it was smoking car but as I didn't care much about it and went back. Next day I found dirty marks on passenger seat and we managed to put a cloth and it and adjusted and finally the worst part is the A/C is not working is the car!! How much more can I take and as it is Saturday the Hertz novi is closed and I called up the customer care and they are saying that I need to go to nearest airport and talk to them?? They were not sure if I get another car for no price. Finally I decided to return it ahead of time and booked another car from Enterprise and went back on Monday evening and told them that these are the issues with the car. The lady over there came out and checking the car *I don't smell anything *We shampooed the seats but marks dont go then thats not our problem!! *I can feel the cold air from A/C. So finally she told me I'm lying! I was like I dont want to ever come back here and become a liar. I wanted to try Hertz as i was always renting from Enterprise and finally I got a such a response. This was the worst rental car experience ever! I will never be using Hertz again and neither will anyone I know. Here's why: I requested to be picked up at the body shop where I was dropping off my car. Hertz never showed up. When the body shop called them to come get me they said they had no drivers to come pick me up. Luckily the body shop was able to run me over to the Hertz location. Upon arriving they did not have a car ready for me even though I reserved one the previous night. After about a 15 minute wait a customer pulls up returning a Chevy Sonic. The Hertz representative informed me that this would be my car. From there he basically handed me the keys and sent me on my way. He didn't explain anything about the car or the refueling policy or anything about the rental. He just handed me paperwork and said "it's out front". When I went out to the car it was very dirty inside and reeked of cigarette smoke. The car was wet on the outside so it appeared someone made a half hearted attempt at washing it. While sitting in the car getting everything adjusted to my liking I see both Hertz employees come outside, get into there respective cars and drive away. 6pm is closing time I guess and I am assuming that is why they didn't take time to clean out the vehicle properly. What made it worse was that as I was checking over the car I found that the rear driver side door was practically unbolted from the body of the car and sagging badly. Of course I had no Hertz representatives to tell because they had all went home. I drove the Sonic home and ended up tightening the bolts holding the door hinges on my self. After driving the rental for a week my body shop informed me that my car would not be completed on time. They also offered to pay for the remainder of my rental until my car was finished. The body shop called Hertz to inform them of this and the Hertz agent said this was fine. However the next day I was still receiving charges to my account for the rental car. I called Hertz to inquire why and the agent told me they had never spoken to my body shop. I in turn called my body shop and they called Hertz again. The agent at Hertz said that she couldn't find any record of my rental! My body shop had to call me and get the numbers off the key chain of my rental so that Hertz could look it up. Once my rental was found the Hertz agent informed my body shop that they could not pay for my rental unless I drove all the way down there and signed off on my rental agreement and then my body shop sign a new agreement. What a huge inconvenience! Upon hearing this I decided I had enough of Hertz and their poor service. My body shop got me a much nicer rental through Enterprise, who if your are wondering had impeccable customer service. However, as of this morning I am still receiving charges to my account for rental car I haven't had for three days! This is just criminal and I will be reporting it to the better business bureau. As for ways you can improve, you could send your agents over to Enterprise for training. Those people went above and beyond to make sure I was happy. Or you could stop charging me when I return my rental car. As I said at the out set of this message I will not be using your company again and nor will my body shop after how we were treated. read more

THE WORSE car rental place. They have horrible customer service, don't answer any questions, they don't go out and review the car with you, they don't go over any paperwork or tell you any of their policies. When I went to pick up my rental from here there was another person in front of me having issues. Apparently they didn't have the car she reserved and only had more expensive options in. They guy was extremely rude about it to. Got to me and the same thing happened!! They didn't have the car that I called to reserve a week ago and I needed to upgrade. Then the car I got from them that had cracks in the windshield and dents all over and the guy said they were closing soon so it was 'fine' I had to make sure I went around and documented all the issues myself with the car. When I asked about their gas policy the guy said just return it with whatever was in the tank. Thought it was odd but didn't question it, came to return and was told it was $10 a gallon. They have such limited hours it's hard to come up after work and return the rental in the first place and they wouldn't wait for me to go fill it up that day and come back despite a gas station being 5 minutes away. I will NEVER use hertz again, I would rather go without a car then deal with such a terrible company and such horrible customer service. Just waiting for them to try and charge me for the dents now.
