Don't do it! Any savings it might seem like you're getting upfront will cost you in aggravation and $$ over the competition. They don't help you when there are problems with your rental. They don't call back when they say they will. Getting a human on the phone is impossible and when you do, they pass the buck and say they can't do anything. First it's talk to the manager. Then the manager has to talk to his boss. All the while they say they'll call back and don't. We were given a brand new car for our rental to go out of state to find a house. It unfortunately developed a catastrophic engine problem and had to be exchanged. That process alone was a huge headache because there are different levels of hertz. The local hertz where we were, out of state, was not "corporate" so they couldn't help. Our only option was to go to the airport which is a nightmare in Itself. So I'm the middle of appointments to look at homes and do all the things necessary to buy a house while being 900 miles away from home, we had to take a trip to the airport in rush hour traffic taking hours out of day. The car we were given was filthy (which is funny since they warn you you'll be charged an exhorbitant fee for returning an excessively dirty vehicle). It was poorly maintained. Tires were dry rotted, brakes worn down and shuttering making our ride home dangerous. Along the way the headlights decided they didn't want to work and we got a message to go to the dealer. The side wall on a tire blew out so we did the right thing and took time out of very busy trip to try to get the tire repaired. The tire company and my husband both spoke with a hertz representative and they refused to cover the cost of the tire because we didn't pay for their extra coverage. However it was likely their poor maintenance of the vehicle that led to the blowout. We could have driven home on the donut and returned it with the blown out tire and called it a day but we didn't. Now for a week, we've been getting the run around about this ridiculous rental experience. To top it off, the manger knew nothing about our issues despite being assured that he was notified of our multiple visits to talk to him. All he offers is a voucher for another rental. Ummm we won't ever rent from hertz again. In addition to the above, their plate pass system changes you for tolls even when you use your own ezpass. The number on the plate pass box and website are out of service and it takes 5 business days to get a response via email. Last time we were charged over $400 for tolls when we paid with our ezpass and had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get the charge removed. We'll see what they try to charge us this time. I did my part and tried to handle it preemptively but they make that impossible. If you want to punish yourself, rent from Hertz. Their motto should be Hertz hurts!! read more

I've *never* written a 1-star review before. This one is the result of a pretty dire situation on my end, that Hertz did not help me at all with. My car was stolen (and found, severely damaged if not completely totaled) earlier this month. To say it's been upsetting would be downplaying the entire situation. From the police to the insurance and rental car companies -- there are a lot of moving parts involved in the process of reporting your car stolen, filing a claim, etc. My insurance company set me up with Hertz for a rental car. I called more than once over the course of 10 days just to be told I'm on a waitlist and they will contact me when a car is ready. I was never offered a car at a different location or even an estimated date for when a car would be ready. Radio silence on their end. This added to the stress I was already feeling about my car being stolen. I eventually just called my insurance and had them set me up with a different rental car company, who immediately gave me an appointment date and time to pick up a rental car. I understand that my problems in life are my own, however this company had one job to do, which was to provide me a rental car or at least keep me well-informed during the process, and they did not do that. I strongly urge anyone looking for a rental to consider another company. There are plenty in this area -- choose one that is reliable. read more

Rude lying employees, 2 men on 5/1/24 at 415pm tried picking up my rental after being side swiped earlier in the day in own car.... the miserable bastards there refused to give me the car that was reserved by insurance company stating that since the car is being out on my husband's card he needs to be here with his license, even though one of these bastards literally rented a car to me before with my driver's license and my husband's card and spoke to my husband on the phone giving him the ok. now these 2 s claim corporate policy? hmmmm. they are full of . I will never rent from this shit hole again. they even wanted to have me rent an electric vehicle instead of a gas vehicle sorry I did not vote for Biden. I use normal fueled vehicles. read more

Two experiences with this rental office since they are the go-to for a nearby dealership. Both times the staff was nice enough but it's clear that there's not enough attention to detail when considering the cars. Both vehicles smelled of stale cigarettes despite their signs saying that they will charge a "cleaning fee". The first car was SO filthy that I needed to wipe down the seats before my kids could get in it. Sticky orange stuff on the seat and McDonalds cup on the floor. And the ashes all over the dashboard proved zero attempt to enforce the "cleaning fee". When my husband drove it he told me there was something wrong with the car's front end. Second car wasn't as bad but the stale cigarette smell was enough to annoy me. The back seat was filthy with tears on the seat. The young man who worked at the office told me "we do charge a cleaning fee but we don't always have enough time to clean the cars". He also informed me that were no other cars in the lot so it was basically take this or walk. read more

I rented from Hertz in November 2018 until end of December 2018. I had to rent due to my engine dying on my car(recall issue) I was initially given a Kia which after making small talk with the reps there , they gave me a few different options. I chose a beautiful 2019 dodge pickup truck. I kindly explained to the staff there I was nearly screwed over by Enterprise when I had to rent in the past and that I would be taking pictures of the entire truck. The staff was understanding as great about this. I had to drive this truck for about a month. Upon returning it, there were no issues, it was a smooth transition. I am grateful for the experience I had with Hertz. Thank you for making my car 'recall' a less stressful time for my family and myself! read more

Update. On February 11 I was charged $14.62. I called Hertz and spoke to Josh. He said I "probably returned the car late". I told him I returned it a day early. Then he said I "probably didn't fill the gas tank." I reminded him that the tank was only half full when I picked up the car. He said I would get a refund for the $14.62. I called back in March and Josh said it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get a refund. It is now over 2 months and I am still waiting. I spoke to Tim at the Southwestern Blvd office and he said the refund has to come from the Cheektowaga office because the car was returned there. He sent an email to the lady in charge of refunds and will get back to me when he hears from her. read more
