I have had good and some horrid car rental experiences. Fortunately National was a very good experience. First the location at the Buffalo Airport is not on the same floor as the other agencies. No worry it's a floor below. Regardless it's super conveniently located across the street from baggage claim. The rep was super nice and friendly. Asked about our flight and demonstrated an interest in helping us get on our way. The hick up was a not having the type of car that I reserved - we wanted a luxury sedan but she offered a small lux SUV. The contracting was super quick and we were off to our adventure within a few minutes. Way to go National thank you. read more

Upon landing at BUF came here for my reservation and was disappointed to see that they use a counter to pick up keys instead of having the Emerald Isle... I love to peruse the Executive Isle and being top tier, I generally score a decent vehicle. In this case it was just me and my wife picking up the car, but we ended up having 5 more to haul around a couple of times and we ended up having to use public transportation. The reason why - When picking up our car I asked about the Wagoneers I saw in the lot and the guy at the desk said they were reserved to large families already. He went on to say that the two of us didn't need such a big vehicle, well, it's not for him to say that, especially when he clearly didn't know what my plans were. In this case, I was the designated driver for a couple of business dinners. He offered me a Cadillac SUV, but it's a mid-size and couldn't fit the entire group, hence why we left this vehicle parked and used another form of transportation. Aside from that - Service and the vehicle were both great... checking in was excellent, as usual. I did love being able to walk from the gate to the car too... I hate having to take another form of transportation to get to the rental cars after landing from a flight. My biggest gripe is being top tier, yet that not meaning a darn thing when it comes to getting my vehicle. read more

FLAWLESS! I don't think I ever rented from National before and this might've been the smoothest car rental experience I ever had. I joined the Emerald Club which is a must: Saved $200+ off my rental, grabbed my keys from Scott at the booth and in 1 minute, away I went. I felt sorry for all the people upstairs in long lines at other car rental desks, looked like a dreadful experience- and a car's a must to get around Buffalo. Great car, easy pick-up and drop-off. We had an excellent experience from the website to checking in and out. The price was the same as initially quoted and that of check out. Also, I appreciated that they didn't push to upsell. I rent from national at least six time a year if not more as of today never again ..I went to pick up my rental and was told I had to give them a credit card so they can hold 600.00..which I never ever had to do before when I spoke to corporate they said no that's not the case but buffalo Niagara airport may have their own requirements...I explained to the girl she has my credit card on file along with my history of rentals and never did I pay that even after viewing the history that showed I didn't pay that her response was well they are wrong for renting to you without it I asked if everyone here is wrong but her she answered Yes ....horrible service and they just lost my business.. read more

Being a executive elite member for years I have literally rented hundreds of times from National Car Rental, my over-all satisfaction has declined over the years and this location has played a part in my lack of enthusiasm with this brand. In regards to positive feedback for this location, the staff was friendly and it's within walking distance from the terminal, but there are a number of negatives that make it less appealing than most locations. - the location is not well lit it's always dark and gloomy - during inclement weather it wet and slippery - accessing your car requires crossing the entrance and exit lanes for multiple rental car companies making it dangerous, it's like playing the old "frogger" video game but presents a real risk to life and property. - you must stop at the outside counter to grab the keys so you are given limited choices without the options of viewing the choices, not a true emerald aisle. - the selection of cars has declined over the years, as well as the quality of the selection. - the space is very chaotic, crowded and unorganized If I frequently flew into Buffalo I would look for other options, this location is definitely not the crown jewel of the brand. read more

Not a lot can go wrong with a rental car company or at least it usually doesn't. The car had a half drunk Aquafina water bottle behind the back seat, right under the back window. There was still a CD from the last person and the entire car reeked of perfume. I got a headache from the perfume and it smelled that way for days. It rained the entire time we had the car so I couldn't leave the windows open. The smell lingered for 5 days. One star review is reserved for Fox Rental Car in LA which has zero cars and dozens of people waiting for hours, everyone trapped there having taken an airport shuttle. If I could rate this a zero I would. We reserved a 10 person van two months in advance and were told at the time of pick up it was in the shop. We were offered an 8 person vehicle that did not fit everything we needed it for and ended up having a slow leak and was then flat. We had many reservations and plans for a wedding weekend and we almost missed all of them. They then sent a tow truck to replace the tire, but a spare was put on and then they offered Ubers for us to get around. This was just not an option with the amount of things we needed to get home with us. We are about an hour away from where the car needs to be dropped off and they said they would send a new car, in 4-6 hours so we could get home as it now has an alert to service the tire pressure system and cannot be driven over 50 miles an hour. We are now on the phone with them again and they are once again offering Uber rather than sending a car like they promised. Run don't walk. This place is a dumpster fire. read more

First off you cannot just go out an pick up your car here like most airports which is the great thing about renting from National. I just had rental and wanted to change from dropping off in Buffalo to dropping off in Rochester. The change fee was $1400 for dropping off 70 miles away. I could drive to Buffalo drop it off and do a new rental with dropoff in Rochester for $50-60. I do not understand this at all. Why would they take advantage of their customers?? read more

I like National and use them a lot for business. I received my email as I landed in Buffalo, NY and was told I could choose my car from the virtual aisle. I chose a Suburban and proceeded to take my luggage over to the said vehicle. As my partner stood in front of the vehicle with our luggage, I moved to the rental booth. I was told they did not have the virtual aisle at this location, and in fact, did not have any Suburbans on the property. (remember, my partner was standing in front of said vehicle) Not wanting to argue, I just chose another vehicle. However, this seems weird to me. I also had some difficulty switching the payment method when I returned the car. In general, I like National, but this trip was very confusing for me. read more

I wasn't going to write a review, but National asked--so here goes. I'm an Emerald Club member so bypassing the counter is nice--unless of course, there's no one staffing the counter inside and all the customers are directed to the Emerald booth. That was the case on my last rental in Buffalo. When I arrived at the Emerald booth, I was the 9th person in line. Most of those in front of me were not Emerald customers, several didn't have a reservation, and 't took more than 30 minutes to pick up my car. When I finally did get my car, I counted 14 more very frustrated people in line behind me. The one poor person working the Emerald booth appeared to be working hard and trying her best--I felt quite sorry for her. I travel 2-3 weeks out of the month and rent frequently. I can't imagine any circumstance where I will rent from National in Buffalo again. read more

Brendan and Wale are extremely helpful. Our team of 14 or so had a few cars for the two weeks we were in Buffalo and going to Warren. They were quick to exchange cars, accommodate additional rentals, and just made the overall rental process quick and easy. They offered free gas for taking a different car if we didn't want to wait. I rented from the Buffalo Niagara International airport location. It is always an interesting experience to get a special SUV for my business trips. At this facility, you must check-in at the booth to hear available options. I wanted a vehicle with heated seats. The Jeeps offered during my visit were nice but were just short of satisfying that want. After packing my things in the Jeep and perusing the area, I went back to the booth. I asked about an Audi Q4 but it was reserved. Scott Murray was incredibly patient and accommodating. He looked into what could be moved around and provided me with an excellent vehicle. Thanks Scott! I am having incredible difficulty in talking to someone who can check my rented car's eyeglass compartment for a very expensive pair of glasses I left behind. National Customer Service is unable to contact the office, lostreturns.com is of no help, the office never replies to my voicemails. I am at wits end as to how to deal with this problem. Always use National..Been an Emerald Club member for MANY,MANY years. I used to travel on business and rent a lot of cars..National is usually a 'no surprises' company to do business with.. Buffalo is the exception..Poorly staffed, under inventoried in cars, TERRIBLE lighting (all major rental companies use the same) in the garage area..I would NEVER let my wife rent a car in Buffalo..I came in in mid week, would hate to see it on a busy day!! Arrived first in line. Checked out the car my company had reserved for me. Then I go to get the car and the associate at the kiosk where the cars are held says my car is already rented. They are unable to change the car and then he has me wait for the associate from upstairs to come downstairs and rectify the situation. Just a bunch of time eaten up, but the associates were friendly. I'm just glad it wasn't too cold as I was standing outside. They did get me into a car, though it smelled like smoke it was fine. read more

Be warned: this rental car establishment (like the others at the Buffalo Airport) is not open 24/7. It closes at 12 am, and opens between 6:30-7 am (depending on the day of the week). This can create a bit of a hassle if you're either arriving late or leaving early. Although there's a "drop box" where you can leave your keys if you're departing prior to 6:30 am, it really unnerves me to have to use that. I don't know about you, but I hate leaving the keys for a $25,000 (or more) vehicle in a "drop box." I would much rather give them to someone in person regardless of the time of day (so I can get a receipt proving that I returned the car in good working order with a full tank of gas). They should at least consider opening at 5 am given that flights leave Buffalo around 6. read more

Rented a car with my husband for 9 days at the airport in Buffalo, NY, to visit Niagara Falls (Canada side) and a trip to a resort in Collingwood, Ontario. Upon arrival at the kiosk, we were greeted with a friendly smile and informed that we can pick any car we wanted (at the same price as my reservation). We had no problems with the car as we traveled to/from and within Canada. Our return experience was just as pleasant. We were greeted with another friendly smile and our needs immediately taken cared of. Mind you...this is a busy car rental, but National took good care of us. Thank you!! read more

Get in late night and had standard SUV reserve. Get to counter and associate tells us all they have is Van's and Pickup trucks. Tells us if you want bring in back in morning and trade in for something else. One problem. We're are staying a hour drive outside of Buffalo. Why do they call it reserve? Ok. Ended up with small Nissan truck. Wow. Got a tank of gas on them. Get truck and Windows were dirty. Like they ran it through the wash and never dried it off. Done with National. Many other companies out there. National.Alamo. Enterprise. Are the Same company. Will go with off airport Companies. Our SUV had rate at $262. a Week two months ahead of time. Rate at our week of rental was $400. I think I know were our SUV went. When I returned my pick up truck to national Rent-A-Car in Buffalo I was met by representative Rebecca. I explained to her the problem that I had and she was very helpful.She gave me two days free rental on next visit and also took money off the current rental I was turning in. She really cared about my problems and wanted to make sure I was happy. 5 stars to her and I will return there to rent again. Will try and get early flights on next visit. read more
