My experience renting from Hertz at Glasgow Airport in Scotland was horrific. The car they rented me had a tire with a slow leak that resulted in a flat. Hertz roadside assistance would not repair or replace the tire where the flat occurred but only tow the car back to Glasgow, two hours away. A Hertz representative assured me that several replacement cars were available there, but after a long trip back, I was told that, in fact, they had none. When I complained that I would be stranded at the Airport without a car, I received a curt response that I should rent from another company. Fortunately, I was able to do so and will do so in the future.
My credit card was then charged for the cost of the tire, a day of Hertz's loss of use of the car, and a second day of rental, which was the same day as the loss of use, amounting to double billing, and at a rate higher than that quoted when I rented the car. When I inquired about the charges with Hertz customer relations, I received no response other than an automated reply acknowledging receipt of the inquiry. From start to finish, there was complete disregard of customer needs. read more
