I showed up Friday at 5:00 for the car I reserved and had confirmation for. They had no cars left and basically told me "sorry, it happens". Left me stranded after hours on a weekend with no car. Customer service is horrible. Woman who answered the phone had an attitude , answering simple questions. I had asked for a vehicle switch due to current vehicle has the maintenance light on. This Lady said NO . We have no vehicles. I happen to drive by & they had more than 25 vehicles. Smh read more

This was among the worst rental car experiences I've had. The office is filthy, the staff unfriendly and apathetic, and the woman who initially rented the car kept complaining about her boss. Not only that but when I rented the car it had not been cleaned out, so I had to do that myself. Then upon return, they told me it would be a $400 cleaning fee because there was pet hair, so I ended up having to clean the car twice to avoid the charge. Also I had pre-paid for a month but returned it two weeks early. The guy behind the counter said he may not be able to get it refunded so I called their 800 number and was able to do it right with no problems at all. Not sure if there is actually a problem in his system or if he was just trying to keep my money, but thankfully we got that one resolved. Returned a car here after and TWO weeks later I was charged $437 for a "cleaning fee". They made no attempt to inform me of the fee and I only noticed it while reviewing my credit card activity. I had the car for maybe five hours and drove straight from Philly to CT and returned it clean, undamaged, and with a full tank of gas. Extremely shady behavior. I cannot think of one time I have had an unpleasant experience with Hertz. Today, I had the pleasure of Joe being my service representative. He was polite, approachable, friendly, and diligent at his role. I previously had made arrangements for a pickup from the train station. When I arrived at their location I was greeted by warm smiling faces. My rental needs were delivered on a smooth, and professional manner. In regards to security - thank you Joe for going over and beyond, and taking all precautions. Also, Joe explained my rental agreement, as well as detailing the car via pictures and emailing them to me. Well Done!!!!! Oh yeah, and the car is new, clean, full tank of gas, & stylish - perfect! Located in a newish pretty grey and white stone strip mall on the right hand side, when heading toward the river. Start looking once you spot Nells Rock Road. Next to a nail salon called Blue Lotus. Its visibility off the road is the key to spotting this place:) Lots of hidden charges today....sigh. Never made known to us when we made a rez for a car one way. Oh well....casual little spot that gets a lot of business, ler the peeps behind the counter. PS if of use to anyone, it costs about $140 one way for rental here (3 day period) to Bradley in Hartford, this AFTER using thousands of loyalty points and taxes. Sigh read more

Excellent customer service.....so long as your definition there-of is rude, apathetic, terse, and dismissive. And THAT was just initial contact over the phone. I reserved a car over a week ago for pick up. Two hours to pick up and they call to tell me in a dull, clearly unconcerned monotone "There are no cars in our lot". OK, so then what was the point of a reservation ? "We can't help it if no-one returned a car. You can try back next week". Exactly what good does THAT do me ? I need it today. "You can try another location". Odd, I thought, because the concept of customer service would seemingly suggest that you, having failed to hold up your end of a deal, should be the one attempting to locate a car FOR me. Apparently not. And I didn't just reserve "a car", I reserved a very specific car for a very specific purpose, one known to all parties involved, and at which point no-one informed me that unavailability was even the remotest of remote possibilities. So now I ruminate over it for an hour and decide I NEED to speak to the supervisor because, to me, EVERYTHING about this is unacceptable - same dull monotone answers; 'Hertz, Shelton' "Hi, is there a supervisor there please ?" 'No'........ "OK, when will there be a supervisor there ?" 'An hour'. Do yourself a favor; Take her advice and "try another location". read more

We rented a car from Hertz in Shelton on Nov 30, 2021 for eleven days. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and condition of the Hyundai Elantra we were given. The Hertz rep was great. I think his name was Clark. He was very courteous and very efficient. We were in and out in just a few minutes. He made sure we were satisfied with the car before we left. I have never been treated better by a rental car agent. Typically, our experience with counter rental car people has been marginal.....they are discourteous and rude. Not with Clark. I reserved a car 3 days in advance. I received a call 2 hours before my car pick up time from a person claiming to be the manager of the Shelton CT location stating that there were no cars available. This person was incredibly rude, would not let me finish a statement and said I was not a customer until I actually rented a car. I have never in customer experience interacted with someone that spoke to a customer is such a manner. read more

I have rented 3 different times from the Bridgeport Ave location in Shelton, and each time the service gets better and better! From the first, they have done all they could to get me the best rates and a fabulous car. Right now I am still in a Ford Focus - one of the best cars I have driven ever - and it is fully loaded! Rented from this place in Shelton before but this time was by far the worst experience. Let's just say I left without a car. I went into the place and the kid that works there was outside checking on a car without any shoes on! He then walks inside with no shoes - just socks. LOL - very unprofessional. I felt like I was at a college dorm room. Then his customer service skills sucked. He was not helpful at all. He then proceeds to tell me that Hertz is no longer taking debit cards! I had a credit card but didn't bring it with me because I usually on use it in emergencies. It's not the desk guys fault that hertz made these changes but he should have said something prior to me giving him all my info! Well, I took my business to Sixt in West Haven and had a lovely experience. They were helpful, accommodating and PROFESSIONAL! I probably won't rent from hertz again - I rent cars at least once a month. read more
