Over $400 for a one way rental from Springfield to Des Moines (Over $600 with deposit). It would've been less than $150 from Enterprise including the fuel, but they were closed. I was told I could not pick up the car because the license I had on file was expired. I moved states and had an updated license. I was then told I needed to go back in line from the gold membership and wait again. I presented the updated drivers license. Yet they made me do all the paperwork as if I never made a reservation in advance. Then the car they told me where it was located was not located there. After finding the car, the car didn't have the booster seat I had reserved forcing me to go back into the building again. When I asked the manager why this wasn't in the car, I was told even though the booster seat was reserved that most customers get it wrong and it was my fault I hadn't asked for it. All three girls working the front desk rolled their eyes at me, kept telling me to have a great day when I told them I was disappointed with the level of service (even after I had told them nothing about the pickup contributed towards a great day) and the tone was terrible. Telling a customer repeatedly to have a great day when zero employee made an attempt to contribute towards a great day is disingenuous and patronizing. When I asked to speak to a manager, no one took accountability, apologized, or made any effort to make the situation better. After traveling since 5:00 am ET to pickup a car at 9:00 at night, I was appalled by the lack of customer service, how long the process took, and how I had to go back in to ask for things I had already booked. This is as by far the worst customer service I have seen in some time. I have been to Hertz in numerous areas and airports. Went to get a rental today 1/16/26 and they refused to rent me a car because my corporate credit card does not have a chip on it. I've used this same card at multiple enterprise locations including airports and they never give me a problem. I've also rented from this location in the past with my same corporate credit card and was not given a problem. Well, while they were very nice and helped me in a crunch, the prices they charged was unbelievable. I had reserved a car at enterprise but even though I had a reservation, they didn't have a car for me. They said Hertz did so proceed to get into your line. When I did I realized there were about 4 other people in line with the exact same problem. But the reason I only gave one star, is because I felt very price gouged. I booked my rental through an agent called booking@carrentalreservatiions.com The booked my rental took the deposit had me confirmed. Never showed me a terms of service. I called an confirmed the reservation showed up to pay for rental and then said I needed a to pay a $500 deposit for using a debit card which i didnt have. Nor do I have a credit card. I was 80 miles from home and needed the rental. I am very unsatisfied over the lack of communication and the uncaring situation. I told them that their booking agents should've told me I would've canceled the whole thing from the start. Terms of service I get but I never received that notice and they should've made their potential customers aware of this. Politely kiss my grits....once screwed twice shy . PHENOMENAL customer service from Garrett! Had a long day of traveling and I was ready to hit the road hoping the process of renting a car out wouldn't take long. I was in and out of there within 10 minutes. Garrett was very professional, informative, attentive, patient and very polite. I will always appreciate anyone who truly makes their customers feel welcomed and that is exactly what Garrett did. Thank you Garrett for making it an easy and smooth process to rent from here. Side note, You are allowed to rent using a debit card if you show proof of a return airfare ticket. They charge $200 on top of the rental as a security deposit. They offer day to day insurance that covers the car with basic, standard and premium insurances that'll help cover you if anything were to happen with the car. I originally rented from Thrifty dollar, which is a sister company to Hertz so I found my self at the Hertz service desk renting out a vehicle, Same thing. Overall a great experience, they offer a $30 something charge to return the vehicle with however much gas is in the car but I found it much easier to just fill up the gas yourself to avoid that charge since it would be less than 30. read more

I cannot say enough about the Hertz/Thrift at Springfield, MO. I accidentally left the handicapped sign I use to drive my 95 year old mother in the car we rented. Long story short about how it got in the rental car - I had read an article that folks were stealing them from out of parked cars (esp in airport parking garages) and re-selling them, so I grabbed it out of my car when I parked it and put it in my bag which then fell over in the rental car. I hung it in the windshield thinking I would certainly see it and remember it there - and I didn't! When I inquired from the Hertz/Thrift Lost and Found I was first told they could not find it. Two days later, Hertz called to say they had it and were mailing it to me. I am SO very grateful as I don't have to go through the whole process of proving how I lost it (as well as the fine.) I was overcharged for their $70 full coverage deal, being charged twice, was not given a full tank at pick up, but had to fill before dropping off, and then they charged me $100 because someone had to get off their bums and wipe down the dash and vacuum some hair... apparently I should have ALSO had the rental detailed before dropping off!! My breakdown. ***** LOCATION: Springfield's airport is quite small, so it shouldn't be hard finding this location by baggage claim on the south side of the building (near the entrance). SERVICES: Basically, if you didn't call and make a reservation before, they'll just tell what cars they have available. I had several options to choose from and went with their Hyundai Accent. (Asian cars, FTW.) Also, both people that I chatted with were super nice! COST: $34.99 per day. $9.99 per hour. Other costs below: -FPO: $17.20. -Concession Fee Recovery: $10.78 -Vehicle Licensing Cost Recovery: $5.56 -Cus Fac+Tax: $14.52 -Energy Surcharge: $1.49 -Tax: $15.74 So as you can see, there are a lot of hidden charges. RENTED VEHICLE: Incredibly clean on the inside. A few dirty patches on the outside. Drove well. Very comfortable. So, pretty much, as good as it gets. OVERALL: Awesome experience. We had a great experience at Springfield Airport Thrifty Rental until I got home. It was never mentioned up front that if I filled the tank before returning I would still be charged if I opted to have them fill it if I did not. When there was a nearby gas station, I filled up at Kum and Go near the airport for $37.49. When I turned in the car, I showed Jacob the gas receipt and he told me I would not be charged the $63.31 fuel charge. When I got home and saw my VISA account, I was charged. I have the Kum & Go receipt, but all I get are voicemails saying I was told I would be charged for fueling even I filled the tank. I was NEVER TOLD that before the rental! When I went to the local Hertz rental here in Cornelius, NC, they said they could not help because they only handle Thrifty at airports. I have tried billing, and lodged a protest with VISA over the payment. I cannot get a human voice. What was a 5-star Thripty experience is now a 1-star - thanks to $100.79 for a 1/2 tank of gas. This is the Hertz location where old cars go to die. I frequent Springfield often and am a Hertz Gold Member. Usually Hertz Gold gets you low mileage, near new cars. My last several rentals from this site have had approx 50k on the odometer, often with badly unbalanced tires or all sorts of strange noises to go along with the cigarette burns in the non smoking vehicle interior. I almost took the last car back within a mile of leaving the airport but was in a rush. Unfortunately my company forces us to use Hertz. I thus walk past the late model Dodge Darts, Hyundais, etc,, on the way to pick up my focus. Does not matter what class of car you reserve, it is almost always a focus. My experience with Hertz Rental Car - Springfield Airport is the single worst, most frustrating business experience I have ever had the displeasure of enduring. The rental car itself, and the process to pick it up, were uneventful, and as many renters do I turned down the company's insurance. Upon returning the car, I was late for my flight and so did not have an opportunity to fuel the car before returning. After reaching my destination, I received a Vehicle Incident Report from Hertz Springfield Airport stating that I had damaged the bumper of the car, and that I needed to sign the report and return to Hertz. Its a long story, but basically, there was no chance that I had caused the damage and I therefore refused to sign the report and the unlisted charges therein. Three days later Hertz Springfield produces a second report stating that in fact, I had damaged the door, front and rear quarter panels, and the bumper and that they were charging me over $1000 dollars for the damage. This report was never directly given to me, I only received it after my car insurance disputed the charges after the whole incident was forwarded to an independent billing agency who was now charging for a non-itemized bill totaling over $1800. While this was all being handled, Hertz corporate then sends me a letter telling me that I have been suspended from renting from the company and its affiliates for not filing an accident report, despite that fact that Hertz themselves filed said report, and that it had been in the hands of my auto insurance for over 2 months. Finally, after numerous back and forth conversations about the seemingly fraudulent nature of the initial as well as subsequent reports,with my insurance company, I was finally able to reach someone within Hertz corporate who as of only this morning cancelled the charges. I have spent well over 20 hours of my own time trying to handle this matter, not to mention the unknown hours spent by insurance company, attempting to resolve this mess. The whole episode has taken over 4 months to resolve. In the end, it looks like someone from Hertz Springfield probably damaged the car while refueling and just dumped it on whatever customer they could. Meanwhile, I have had to deal with the consequences of this fraudulent treatment by Hertz Springfield Airport, and the incompetence of Hertz Corporate and its affiliates. In essence, do not rent from these people, its just not worth it. read more
