My truck has been in the shop for almost a month and I've had to rent a car from this location. I see a ton of bad reviews but mine is quite the opposite. The customer service I've received has been phenomenal and they've gone above and beyond to accommodate my situation (my truck has been in the shop for longer than I expected). They had the type of car we reserved and they were friendly enough but the car was filthy on the outside. Bird crap all over and really dirty/dusty. Inside wasn't terrible but smelled a little like someone smoked in it and there was literally 5 little trees airfreshers hanging on the mirror. A little overwhelming with scent mixed in a settle smoke smell. Car had some minor scratches. Tires were over inflated. Terrible. Reserved well over a week in advance, was called the day of 2 hours prior stating there were no cars. They said they would call me back in 4 hours, that never happened. The man I spoke with initially said cars would be "brung in". After completely butchering my name- in a way that made no sense other than he didn't even care to read it properly! How am I supposed to trust someone as a professional when they don't use proper English to begin with? I tried calling at least 20 times and never got through. very bad company to deal with I was supposed to pick up my rental Saturday the 16th at the hall Rd and Clinton Township location in Michigan and I got there 2 minutes to 12 and they were already closed not it only ruined my family vacation but it took me 25 phone calls to get someone to help me and not hang up the phone on me after asking for manager and scaring them he canceled my old reservation and credited my account and gave me a new reservation at the airport location and I had to take an uber there. coming back from my vacation the I had a flat tire and had to go change it for $177 dollars at discount tire and they would not help me when the car was going back in couple hours not it only ruined my vacation but I spent an extra $177 on top of all my spending on my vacation when I could of used that money for groceries. never again with this company read more

Made a reservation four months prior to my trip in that time they stopped using the type of vehicle that I booked. Would give 0 stars if I could. I booked my car 8 days ago on 6/14/21. Went to pick up my rental today and apparently this location is temporarily closed until 6/27/21, even though the sign on the door states they re-opened on 6/17/21. I was NEVER contacted by anyone about any kind of store closures. I then had to deal with corporate and all 3 agents I spoke with were completely useless and unhelpful. One even said she "confirmed" a car was available at a different location nearby. I called the location first to make sure this was true --- only to be told that NO they did not have any car available! (The employee I spoke with was great, said he would stay late for me if he had a car available. Pretty much admitted corporate are idiots and have no clue what goes on with the franchises). To make a long story short - after much frustration I ended up canceling my reservation and now have no way of getting to work for the rest of the week. So on day 4 found a car and bought it returned rental 3 days early. Because I used the pay up front part of special means if I turn in early I'm out the money for the rental. Which was not told to me and they gave me a receipt for what rental would of been which is $70 cheaper. Just proves they don't care about there customers. DO NOT GO HERE. If it was possible to leave a no star review I would. We have had nothing but trouble from this location since day one. They claimed our reservation time was an hour later than scheduled and still didn't have a vehicle ready for us even when our "scheduled" time came around. The first car they tried to give us had dirty foot prints on the back seat and looked like it had never been vacuumed. The tires also had thinning spots. Not only were we concerned for our safety but that of our baby. The second car they tried giving us was just as dirty on the inside. There was trash under the seats and a piece of gauze that had blood on it. When we brought this to the manager's attention he claimed it wasn't blood and yet still felt the need to put a glove on before removing the bloodied item. We were finally given a different car that was somewhat clean and didn't look to have any hazardous issues. Upon attempting to return the vehicle when our contract was up, they claimed they wouldn't take it back because it was TOO DIRTY despite it being far cleaner than anything they had offered us and only had the minimal dirt from shoes going in and out of the vehicle. read more

Just dropped off an insurance paid rental. Employee asked if we had pets in car. He said Hertz wasn't animal friendly and we could be charged for cleaning. We told him no and had NOT had pets in the car. He explained that he "found evidence" of an animal in the car. We asked him to show us. He had the backseat's floor mat on top of the roof which had a "fuzzy" and a few pieces of lint and maybe 2 pet hairs. We laughed at this. I wanted to take a picture but my husband said it wasn't worth it. He said he wasn't charging us but bringing it to our attention. Gee-thanks! I would totally understand if there was major fur all over but this was on a floor mat. It was ridiculous-don't floor mats collect dirt? It would take a normal vacuuming out of the car to get the fuzzy out! Will not use this location again based on principle. Beware fuzzies, lint and transferable pet hair! read more

The worst place Iv'e ever been to. Girl at the front desk has not the slightest idea about customer service. The car they were trying to give me was dirty. When I looked at what looked like scratches, she started yelling at me" That's is bug poop!! That is big poop! " so I told her I wanted to make sure they were not scratches( which was my right and responsibility) before I take the car, she ran inside and brought a spray bottle with some cleaning solution and started frantically spraying and cleaning the suspicious spots. (Pathetic!) When I asked her why the car was dirty she told me I could cancel my order, after which I thought to myself" why should I give these morons my money?" Manager was useless too. If we could give a zero rating we would. My son attempted to rent a car from Hertz rental on Van Dyke in Sterling Heights, Michigan. He went on line and placed an order for the rental. He paid up front for it and the only thing left to do was to go to store and pick it up. When he arrived the agent was rude and very abrasive. He told my son he needed to do a credit check on him. My son had his credentials and Debit card. He waited 2 hours for his rental and was denied the rental. Although Hertz had already held the $500 deposit on his card. My son continuously asked what was the problem only to be ignored and snubbed by the agent. My son and his wife left the premises is and went to Enterprise right up the street and was serviced and treated well. No questions asked and Credit check was not necessary. Oh, and by the way Hertz held the money and told my son it would take 7 to 10 business days before they could release the funds they held. Shame on Hertz. You lost my sons business and mine. If I could give 0 starts I would. This was one the most horrible customer service I've experience. I booked my reservations through a third party for 2 days. I went there on Friday evening to pick up the car, I was planning to drop it on Sunday. The white guy working here( He didn't want to provide his name) told me that since it was memorial day on Monday, they will closed on Sunday and Monday and that they will have to charged me an extra day so I can drop the car today(Tuesday) at 8am. This is my first time renting a car, I didn't know that there is a key drop box. So, Without knowing this I agree to the extra day charged. So I did as this guy said. I went and hold the car for another day and drop it Tuesday morning. However, when I got there they charged me another day and a late fee because I drop it "late" which it does not make any sense since they are the ones who told me to do so. THEY ARE SCAMMER. In the first place, they didn't have to charge me extra since I didn't want the car for 3 days I just wanted until Sunday I could drop the key off. Also if it's holiday and they don't open that's also not the customer's fault. AVOID THIS PLACE, They will look forward to overcharge. If you're considering renting from Hertz, here's a word of advice - don't. Last night I reserved a car for 1 day with a reservation time of 8 AM. I also ask whether I can be picked up since my car was in repairs. They said no problem; so far so good. This morning, I was told that I can't get my car until 9 am, which made no sense since I reserved a car at 8. I was told my driver was on his way to get me for 9 am. I was not picked up from my location until 10:15, and did not receive a car until 10:45. I found out that while they promised me a car for 8 AM, they had no car to give me. Why lie to me and let me reserve a car when you have absolutely none to give?! It was a complete waste of my time, and there was no apology for what took place. I would say I'd give zero stars, but I'll let them have one because apart from their horrible service and for wasting my entire morning, the car ran smoothly and without any problems. read more

I would second the comment about jumping into a volcano rather than rent from this place. The agent we met with wouldn't give me my booked rate and read a Cintas invoice as he was "helping" us. I walked out after he wanted $700 more for a two week reservation. Have rented from this place for years, never had a problem until now. The lazy agent noted "new management" took over and must have also thrown any semblance of customer service out the window. Needed a SUV for road trip to Family Reunion and Darrien took great care of me. Vehicle was nice and great on gas!!! i can't express that enough; GMC Acadia was phenomenal on gas especially with the rising gas prices getting close to $5/gallon. Customer service doesn't exist here at all especially with the branch manager, Nader H. I came in for a reservation I had set the day before. Upon entering the building, I heard a voice from the office telling me to come back there so he can assist me. I make my way back there and there is the branch manger reclining back in his chair asking me how he could help. He didn't bother coming to the front counter where customers should be helped. I told him I had a reservation and he told me one didn't exist. He said I could wait 1.5 to 2 hours and he can get a car for me. I told him I have a reservation number and I need to get to a meeting and can't simply wait that long. I wasn't rude with him at all and all of the sudden he says "sir lower your voice or I will have to tell you to leave" I was astonished at what I was hearing. I told him I wasn't talking to him rudely or in a high voice and before I could finish my sentence, he told me to get out or he would call the police. I at this point couldn't believe what he was saying. I asked for his card and asked for his manger and he said "I am the manger". I asked who was in charge of him and he gave me a name and number to call. I called that number and the regional manger (Kindle M.) apologized and said to make up for my experience I will get vouchers for 3 free rentals. This was about 3 months ago and I have yet to receive anything. I since have not used hertz at all and I have no plans to use them in the future. I made a few reservations on AAA.com to pick up at the Hertz located at 40490 Van Dyke Ave Sterling Heights, MI 48313 to pickup at 10:30am, I caught an uber and arrived at 11am, when I arrived I was informed that my vehicle was rented because I was late. I informed them that I had 4 different reservations, therefore there should be at least one vehicle available for me, I was only 30 minutes late. I informed them that I am always late and reserving more then one vehicle, but usually I get a courtesy call regarding my reservations to verify what vehicle I needed and if I was picking up. I was told it was peak season and spring break, they were unable to hold a vehicle, there are only two of them and they did not have time to contact me, matter of fact one person could not have multiple reservations. I asked if they truly rented the vehicle or if they didn't have one available and using this as an excuse. I asked to speak with the manager and the gentleman rudely said your speaking with him. I was very appalled and asked for his name, he stated Hysm. I informed him that his customer service is very poor and I don't appreciate the unprofessional behavior. I asked him if he could find me another vehicle, he told me no, there are no vehicles available. I asked him to contact corporate, he stated he would not, I call around myself and look for a vehicle and I can call corporate on my own. I asked him why are you being rude and unprofessional, especially to a customer looking for a solution in the presence of an employee your supervising. The conversation got very intense with both employees, I took out my phone and started taking pictures of the filthiness of the facility. I asked the employee what was his name, he refused to give it to me. Neither employee was wearing a name tag. The manager refused to giver me a business card. He then tried to throw me out of the building. I refused to leave until he found me a vehicle. I explained I have a business trip out of state. He did not care. The employee stated someone canceled and they had a vehicle that appeared from the side of the building, I went to look at it, opened the door, it smelled like smoke. I informed the manager that I have asthma and could not rent that vehicle, the employees started laughing and said you have asthma right, just say you don't want the vehicle. I asked are you questioning my medical condition. I am appalled by your poor customer service, I know Hertz does not train their employees to act as such. I then contacted the Madison Heights location and spoke with the branch manager Brian Walsh, and explained my situation and the poor customer service treatment I received. Mr. Walsh went out of his way to find me a vehicle and accommodate me for the poor customer service treatment I received. Mr. Walsh apology profusely, he also setup for me to be transported to his location to pick up my vehicle. Mr. Hysm informed me that the driver would be taking me to the other location. I then informed him that I will be filing a complain and he needs to go to a customer service training because it's very poor. He then chased me out of the door and told the driver not to take me after I told him I was filing a complaint. I asked him on what grounds, he stated you was taking pictures of my employee, I informed him that I was taking pictures of the filthiness of the location. This location is terrible! My car didn't have heat and I was given a $30 discount for the inconvenience. It was negative -5 degrees while I had the car for a week. Terrible place. Nobody at the counter for 4 minutes upon trying to return car. After having to call out hello, hello, anybody here? The girl came out with an attitude saying " Uhh, what do you need?" She went out to inspect car and comes back and tells me she's adding a $200. fee to my bill as a cleaning fee. Was she kidding? The car was pretty darn clean few bits of gravel and hair on floor mats. Asked for manager and she would'nt let me talk to him. They said I had to go vacuum out the car MYSELF or get the fee. I wish I could post pics here so you can see that there was almost nothing on the floor mats or seats when I returned it. How lazy can these people be and trying to screw their customers out of even more money? I DID go vacuum it out and am keeping the before and after pics in case they do try charge me extra.
