Evidently the Hertz location that used to be at the Hyundai/Genesis dealership at the corner of Route 1 and Opitz Boulevard has MOVED, as of a YEAR AGO, to a small desk located in the drab corner of a PEP BOYS auto supply store on Wigglesworth Way, about a mile up the road. You will find no sign indicating that there is a Hertz car rental location there, except for a 8 1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper stuck to the window. I had reserved a car online (Hertz will charge 5% more if you want to do it with someone over the phone) and the system had accepted my reservation for pick up the same day. So I went there and was told that I would have about a two-hour wait as they were waiting on cars to be brought from another location. Ok, fine, a bit of a wait. But then, after I asked if he was sure a vehicle would be ready around then, he backtracked and said it could even by later in afternoon. In other words, I might have to sit around all day in a Pep Boys store as there wasn't much in the area to go to except a Wendy's across the street. Then the manager came by and said that THERE WEREN'T GOING TO BE ANY CARS AVAILABLE THAT DAY. So, why had their system accepted my reservation then? I had taken an Uber to get to their location and now was going to have to find another car rental as Hertz had me come to their location with actually no car available. But as I'm calling to arrange another car rental, a few customers come in and it seems they had vehicles for them (or they were turning in ones). All I can say is that it's pretty evident that this is a pretty lousy-run business that has had to downgrade to a small desk in the corner of auto supply store and hasn't managed to put a sign outside for over a year. Extremely unsatisfied with the service we received today. We booked an SUV to pick up this morning at 8:00am, and the branch manager, Ryan Spisak, failed to reserve us the car. He then proceeded to lie by informing us that he called us earlier this week (we never received a call from them). I've dealt with this location on two occasions. The first occasion I waited for about 45 minutes to get my car. After getting my car the vehicle was dirty and filled with trash. The worker cleaned it. I figured I'd open the trunk just to check and the trunk was filled with trash also. My most recent occasion I made a reservation. Took an Uber from my house to the location. Waited at the location where no one was present and 3 or 4 other people were waiting. I called the number and was told that my reservation was cancelled and no cars were available. Why does the website allow you to make reservations if there's no vehicle. Most other websites didn't allow me to book. Please fix the issues with this location. Worst rental location in Prince Williams County. I waited more than 45 minutes while "Camille"answered one of her two phones. I listened to her tell some customers they have cars, while taking reservations for immediate pickup for others. This location was staffed with only one person when I attempted to pick up my car and was only staffed with one person when I dropped the car off. To make matters worse, the Alexandria location called to notify her a customer was stranded with a car that overheated on the side of the road (yeah, poor maintenance). She continued to tell her other hertz locations they did not have a car. NEXT phone call, she informed a customer they had an Impala (the one I dropped off) ready for pick up. WTF. To top it all off, the car I rented needed 3 quarts of oil... Worst rental location in Prince Williams County. I changed my business to Enterprise Rental in Potomac Mall. read more

Stranded- I made a same day reservation for a vehicle as my car broke down and I needed to get to work while it was being repaired. When I arrived at the Hertz location in Woodbridge at my reservation time slot, no one was there. I was told by a waiting customer that she was told they were out picking up a vehicle and would be back soon. When the customer service reps returned, They completed the transaction with the customer ahead of me. When I told them that I had a reservation, the told me that they were out of vehicles because the people who were supposed to drop off extended their rental and there was nothing they could do. So basically I was stranded with no vehicle and no way to get to work as by this time it was close to 5pm. I was told "sorry". I asked so you have no vehicles to offer me? I was told "no we do not". Then the people behind me were an hour late to pick up their vehicle, they stepped up to the desk and were handed keys to a rental car? What? I thought they had no more rental cars?? Anyway this was very poor service , I was stranded without a car and no alternative solutions were given to me. Horrible. I have never had such a negative experience. I book through the app (which is lacking...) but never had issues with the staff. Gina and her colleagues have always been more than helpful. If you want to rent the car you made a reservation for, stay away from this place. Do not be fooled by brand name recognition. Take your business elsewhere. We made a reservation a week prior to pickup. Only to find there was no car on pickup day. They only offered a subcompact car. We reserved a full size because that is what we needed. This is a bait and switch operation. Read the other reviews! The manager will tell you that he's sorry and that it was Hertz's fault. That's it. Useless. Well....., I booked a SUV online at MALLOY HYUNDAI HLE Store, located in Woodbridge VA. I arrive at the store around Wednesday 6th, 8:00am ready to get the car I was expected and ready to drive 8 hours to my final destination, Buffalo NY. The staff member told me that they did not have any Toyota RAV4 car for me, even tough I was booked that car. He told me that instead the Toyota RAV4 he had a COMPACT car available. I said, "I booked at SUV because I need a big car and you are offer me a Sonic COMPACT car? The difference is huge and I cannot get the compact car, I need the SUV please." I suggested him to call another location to check if they have any SUV available, He says, "ok , but cannot go and get it because I'm alone here," Ok. I told him I can go and get the SUV to the other location if that is the easiest way to have the car I booked online. He called the other location at 501 S Pickett St, Alexandria, Va and they have a SUV!! I drove from Woodbridge VA to Alexandria Va 40 minutes!! Yes 40 Minutes from one location to another, 40 minutes to go and 40 minutes to come back. I arrived to the second Hertz store and the staff member were very nice, at the Woodbrigde store the guy was also nice, he tried to help me in some way. OK.. I switch the Sonic Compact Car to a Nissan Rouge, it was not the Toyota but ok, I need to go as soon as possible, I had 8 hours driving. I get the Nissan and the smell of dust was intense and the car was dirty, not only because you could smell the dust but also because two bottles of water were under the passenger sit ( i discovered that later). I did not have any other option, I had to drive that car that day, otherwise I would have changed the company and the car that day. To sum up, I arrive to buffalo 4 hours later that I was expected, and I returned the car the next day 4 hours later more or less. I used for 24 hours plus 3 more hours. I told the the story I just wrote to the mannager at the Buffalo Hertz office before to pay the rental. When I was ready to pay they wanted to charged me $140 more!!! because I dropped of the car 4 hours later, they told it was three days!! Here in The US and in China and In my country 24 hours plus 3 hours is not three days. Help me with the math please! After further discussions and calls, the manager said that they will not charge me the three days, because of the situation in virginia and Arlington. I paid the amount that I was expected to pay. I'm a Gold Plues Member of Hertz and I've been renting cars since 2013 more or less. I'm thinking to close my account at hertz and change the rental company, this is not the first time I have problems with the cars, The last time I rented a car which had a lick in the gas tank!!!!! Yes, I could have blow myself up in the freeway and they gave me $75 of discount, my luggage was in the trunk and I lost some clothes because the gas went trough the trunk, yes crazy story. THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Tried calling manager and even other locations to assist but to no avail. We even had someone hang up on us. Been with Hertz since 1980. Stayed with them so long simply because they WERE the BEST and always provided top notch service. Well NOT ANYMORE. I will surely take my money elsewhere. On more than one occasion, I have shown up for reservation at this location on Optiz. Each time I show up to pick up my reserved vehicle....There are NEVER any cars and there is ALWAYS ONE PERSON at the counter. The wait seriously for a reservation has been more than an hour only to receive a car that smells like cigarette smoke, dirty on the inside and dirty on the outside. After waiting seriously 60mins, I complained about the condition of the car- no recourse, no apology, no way to make this experience right. In fact, if I really want the car cleaned...there would have been another 30min wait to have the only worker drive the car to get cleaned. Apparently there are drivers there that are supposed to take the cars to be cleaned but they are all too busy in the side office standing around doodling with their cell phones and looking as if they don't work there at all. (avoiding eye contact. Not assisting at all) This last time has done it. I'm done with Hertz. I placed a reservation using my Hertz rewards (because i rent a lot with them). Almost every single time (at other Hertz locations) I am UPGRADED to a higher grade car. This curtesy is ONE of the reasons why I always stayed with Hertz. They had a reputation for treating their customers right. SO apparently at this location they don't upgrade simply because they don't ever had ANY Cars. So i have a trip planned today. I was on a time schedule- showed up at 10am today. After losing almost 2hrs of my time, I accept this awful Ford Focus and get on the road. Within 15mins the car starts making noises and I start to panic. Bad enough I have to deal with the cigarette smoke but I have to now risk my life to either take the car back or drive it to my destination. I sit on the side of the road and call both Hertz Customer Service and the nearest location to do a "swap." Boy oh Boy they acted like I was trying to steal a car. I guess the concept of swapping out a car evades them. OMG. I never had this problem anywhere else. I thought HERTZ honored their reservation regardless of the location- especially if there is a problem. They kept encouraging me to call RoadSide Assistance as if I need to burn another 3-4hrs waiting for someone to tell me the car sucks only to then confirm this with the location (that would likely be closed by then) and my trip is delayed even longer. I mean, isn't this a business. If I tell you that this car makes me feel unsafe and is making a noise. You should direct me to the nearest hertz to swap out the vehicle for a similar make and model - and one that is SAFE. NEVER AGAIN. I REQUESTED A MANAGER AND THEY LEFT ME ON HOLD FOREVER. I BEEN A CUSTOMER USING HERTZ FAITHFULLY IN EVERY STATE THAT I'VE VISITED AND THIS IS HOW I'M TREATED AT THIS LOCATION. I'm so beyond disgusted and NOW not only is my trip severely delayed (at least 3hrs) I still need a vehicle today to make it to New York. So this means that I'm jumping ship - there are WAY TOO MANY OTHER CAR RENTALS THAT WOULD GLADLY HAVE A DEVOTED RENTER SUCH AS MYSELF. This is truly disappointing and disgusting. Safety is ALWAYS number one. These people are so lucky. I will return this POS car back to the location and find someone else to rent with today. I can't believe a weekend rental turned out this horrible. There is no excuse for treating dedicated customers like this. First, I was instructed to use Hertz by my insurance company - I have used Enterprise in the past and have had no issues.When I was calling my insurance company, I expressly asked if I needed a reservation and was told no, I did not. Great - I went to Hertz to pick up a vehicle. I was greeted with a sarcastic "Do you have a reservation?" - and unfortunately no, I did not. The employee, Billy, then proceeded to get quite irate at that, and that the insurance company told me to just show up. I believe his words were "Would you show up to the body shop without an appointment?"... Wow. He said a few other sarcastic, angry remarks while doing my paperwork but he 'luckily' had a vehicle, and I signed their paperwork and off I went, just glad to get away from this rude man. Last week, the body shop called and my vehicle was ready to be picked up - great news! I called to let Hertz know my vehicle was done and I'd return the vehicle that night. I arranged to have another driver drive me from the rental location to the body shop to pick up my vehicle. Then I called the body shop and was told it was fine that I drop the rental off there, so I didn't need the second driver - great because that is a huge inconvenience to the other person. Rental was dropped off, and I got my vehicle back. This morning, I checked and saw a charge on my account from them, which I just assumed was from the rental going over my policy limit - no problems, just need an invoice to collect from the other person's insurance who had hit my vehicle. I called in to get a copy of my invoice, and was greeted by our favorite person, Billy. First he was rude once I said I'm calling for an invoice - "Well, who is this? I don't know your name." Uh, ok, you could have just asked politely like a normal human being. Then he proceeds to tell me THERE IS NO INVOICE, and starts berating me for not dropping the vehicle off at their location, they had to shut down for an hour to go get it, blah, blah, blah... I hung up. There is ZERO excuse for being so rude. I literally cannot believe how rude this man has been throughout this process. Regardless, I'm disputing those charges and writing into their Corporate office about this man. Most of these other reviews say this too, and I would not have gone here had I checked prior, but DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION. FIRST TIME RENTING HERE!!! I made my reservation a week in advance to due it being 4TH of July weekend that I wanted a rental. I even show up in the middle of the week before my pick up day in order to make sure I had things in order. There is only one person working looking uninterested in why I am there. So I finally got what I needed from him and was on my way. I show up today at 7:30am (because that's when this location opens and my reservation is scheduled for), no one is there, the doors are locked I sat there with my sister for about 10 minutes calling the number on the website to get a message stating I should call back during business hours (7:30-6). I try calling on my way back into the house and reach a call center agent. She cannot help me at all but will make a note that no one was at the location when I arrived and have someone call me back. Is anyone going to resolve my issue? So I get home and call the location back someone finally answers. Didn't catch his name but I did catch the attitude he threw. So I say hi I was just at your location to pick up a car I reserved and no one was there. He replies " I was out cleaning cars". Then goes on to tell me they don't have any cars available for my reservation or for anyone else today. I say " how is that?'" He says "People are extending their reservations due to it being July 4th weekend. I can send someone out to get cars but it wont be ready until later this afternoon." Saying that wont do.( I clearly sound a bit irritated) and he says " You're not the first person I've told this to today" First off, you couldn't have told anybody anything if you were "cleaning cars". Secondly, I am a paying customer who put a down payment to reserve a car a week in advance for you to talk to me as if I am a friend no no no. Thirdly, how do you have no cars? Shouldn't that have been noted a week ago? I told him I need a refund he says in an irritated tone " I cant help you with that, you can call the billing people Ill give you the number" Hertz needs to step their game up and hire some people who value their job and life. Stolen Computer I've been renting cars from Hertz for several years now, all over the country. When I came to Northern VA area last year (2015), I was making frequent trips back to NC on weekends. I began renting cars from the Hertz located at 1880 Optiz Blvd in Woodbridge, VA. As a result of my frequency in renting from Hertz, I became a Gold member and developed what I thought was a good relationship with Billy, the manager. I'd never had any issues with either Billy or the other staff members until my last rental this past Memorial Day weekend. I rented a car for a week (Reservation Confirmation number G944560770). Picked up on Friday, May 27, 2016 and drop off on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 I dropped the car off that afternoon around 5pm and handed to keys to the only employee that was in the office at that time (whose name I can't remember). About an after leaving the location, I realized I left my computer in the Chevy Cruz I'd rented. It was 6:06 pm when I made the discovery and that location closes at 6pm on Weekdays. I thought it best to call them right away thinking that maybe someone was still there perhaps finishing up paperwork or something; however, no one answered. I'd locked the doors before turning the keys and also presumed that the vehicles are checked at the end of the night, so I wasn't too worried. On the very next morning, 2 June 2016, I called the office right when they are supposed to open (7:30 am); however, again, no one answered. I called again when I got to work a little after 8am and Billy answered the phone. I asked him to check the car for my computer for me and he came back and told me it wasn't there. Of course I was shocked! I know it was in the vehicle just the night before at closing. I asked him to verify that it wasn't there as I knew exactly where in the car the computer was which was on the front passenger side floor. I asked him to check with the employee that I gave the keys to the night prior and also the person that cleaned the car, but according to him, no one had seen my computer. I explained again that I knew my computer was left in the car and then, to my surprise, he began getting defensive which caused me great concerned. He went on a rant about how he trusts his employees and if they said they didn't see it then they didn't see it and that's it! I'm concerned at this point because this isn't the behavior and tone of a professional, much less a manager. I asked to come check the car myself after leaving work that day and he agreed and said that he wouldn't rent the car out until I got there. I went straight there after work that same day and Billy told me the car was not there because he had to rent it out, directly in conflict with what we'd discussed. At this point, I'm extremely irritated. Why would he agree not to rent it out before I got there and do the exact opposite? Furthermore, if he was going to renege on the course of action, why wouldn't he tell me? When I asked both of these questions, his response was "Well, I checked the car and checked with my employees and nobody saw a computer. Someone wanted a car to rent, so I rented it out." I asked Billy if he could review the tapes from the surveillance cameras around the location since they share a lot with a Hyundai car dealership and he agreed he would, but for 3days straight, every single time I called to inquire about it, I got another excuse like "There's only one person that monitors the cameras and she's not there today" or "Today is her day off". Because of his dismissive attitude from the outset of this whole ordeal, reneging on our agreement, constant excuses, and blatant disregard for any kind of professional courtesy, I question his integrity as a manager and also the professionalism of Hertz and its employees, namely at this location. I imagine that Hertz values its customers and its reputation; however, this location does not exemplify this commitment to service and leaves me reluctant to patronize Hertz ever again. Terrible customer service from the associate working the front today around 12pm. My mother and I walked in asking if they had any cars available for rental since we had just dropped of her car at the body shop. The associate seemed to be in a bad mood and asked if we had a reservation. My mother advised that she had called State Farm and they referred her to this rental location and he began getting an attitude about why we wouldn't call hertz first to verify they even had a car available. Turns out they only had one small compact car available. Not the type of person you want greeting customers, very unprofessional and disappointed. Rent from someone else. Save yourself money and time. I'm already $234 out of pocket. I haven't had the rental since Tuesday, it's Thursday today. And I'm still being charged daily every morning. Billy wasn't able to give me a receipt because they do not give receipts and said they would return my money in 24-48 hours ($50 deposit money). That's great, the problem is. I'm still being charged every single day. Went to see them at their office, he was mad that I don't wait since he is so busy and not his only customer, very unprofessional and still can't explain why I'm being charged every single day even tho they already rented the car I returned to someone else. It's $234 out of my pocket today. Problem still not resolved. My hands are tight. He blamed State Farm and told me is their problem and they should refund my money. What kind of business are they running!?. State Farm doesn't understand what they are doing and can't help me either. Per State Farm I only owe them $30 because I returned the car the morning after July 12, but it would be $0 if I had returned it the night before, wow. Very disappointed. read more

This is for the location in the Cowles Ford dealership. I found it convenient that it was there and it made it easy picking up a car when I dropped my truck off for service over the weekend. That's where the good news ends. So I made a reservation online a few days ahead, I reserved a premium or full vehicle. I get there and Camille says 'oh, you didn't have a phone # listed so we couldn't contact you but we only have mid-size and economy'. And I'm thinking like, I had an email address, I got a confirmation, someone could've emailed me OR how about yall get a full or premium vehicle from another shop in advance? Ok so I decide to go with the mid-size which was a Nissan something, idk what the heck it was but it was small and uncomfortable. I was told I could exchange it at a different hertz location for a bigger vehicle. Camille did try to call a couple different locations but no one had a bigger car. Then she told me I could exchange it at the airport. I was leaving out of town at 5am the next day, I had to go to work that current day so I had little time to drive as far as the airport! Camille also said she'd call me that afternoon to verify if any other local locations had a bigger vehicle, which she didn't. So I got off work at 8pm, I decided I didn't want to be in the tiny car with a basic radio, I wanted blue tooth, I wanted options! That's why I reserved a frickin premium vehicle and was willing to shell out the $$ for it. I decided to call the airport location to verify that I could in fact exchange it before driving all that way for nothing. I don't know what in the holy hell of customer service purgatory I entered but I spent a half hour on the phone getting transferred to unhelpful people who couldn't answer a simple question!! I could've been to the airport by the time I just hung up and decided to roll the dice and just drive out there. I get out there 45 mins later and I misread the signs because they all said 'returns'. So I ask the parking attendant where the actual office is and he rudely says 'you can't read?' Oh no he didn't!! He's lucky I am too old to catch charges because i wanted to get out of that car and pimp slap his rude a$$. I took deep breaths and turned around, parked the damn car in the middle of a random lane, walk inside and stand there in line waiting for another 15 to 20 mins, I get to a kiosk and that attendant barely speaks or acts like I'm speaking Chinese, never explains anything but just thrusts a key at me and tells me to go to the spot on the slip and pick up the new car. I get the new, bigger, more comfy car, put the pedal to the medal and get the hell out of there. I returned the vehicle to the dealership and didn't give a hoot if they wanted it returned to the airport. I have NEVER had such a sh&tty experience. I'll be taking my biz to enterprise. Had the worst experience at hertz in woodbridge va my boyfriend Paul is a independent travel agent through Intel travel...intel travel is partnered with hertz so we book a rental with hertz on Monday Dec 31st for 3days....it was a Hyundai Sonata he drove the car to Baltimore it was the most uncomfortable ride it sound like a truck, even going at 40miles per hour you hear a loud roaring noise sound like a wheel bearing... so imagine driving on 95 with it, if you let go of the gas the car pulls and I could feel tire vibrations...so on Tuesday Jan 1st we went to hertz to return it and found out it was close due to holidays so we end up driving my car because of the problems with the rental...So on January 3, 2019 we had to go to west va we took the rental to hertz to get another car and let the rep know the problems....he put us in a Nissan Altima but no remorse for the lemon rental he gave us not even a extension for the day we didn't use it...the Altima he put us in had warped rotors and keyed all the way around...So don't waste your time or money at this rental car place go across the street to Enterprise...im very disappointed! read more

We got stuck in a pinch with a broken down car mid way through a long road trip. Hertz was one of the few car rental locations in the area, and were a lower price (~$34/day for compact) for a car for personal use. It did take the guy a couple hours to find a car the day of, as well as a couple follow up calls by me to check on the progress, but as promised, he found a car for us within a couple hours. We arrived at Hertz, and the car was there ready to go. We were planning to return the car on a Sunday, when Hertz was closed, so they informed us we'd automatically get charged the rate until Monday. We didn't feel this was fair, and the man working found a way to adjust the daily rate by taking away a day of use, and instead adding the insurance daily rate, which came out to the price close to what we wanted. Nice to see a sales guy go out of his way to help out a customer like that. Car rental places are notorious for not being clear on pricing - but ask your questions, get a clear answer and make sure you understand how your pricing will work, and this Hertz care rental place will do just fine. read more
