Very poor customer service. Discrepancy on different credit hold amounts. They are very biased on how much they choose to hold on credit card when, you have a " major credit". They could careless about customer satisfaction and whether you have to be at a destination. I don't recommend this place. If you use it speak to 3 different ppl weeks ahead so you can get the same policy. I would never recommend to anyone. Worst rental place and very poor customer service ! read more

I entered this Hertz location to rent a car. I was directed there by the Avis Car Rental location adjacent to Hertz. I was told that Hertz would be able to take my debit card to rent a car, where Avis requires a credit card, which I didn't have with me. The reason I needed to rent a car was that I was in Stamford for a business meeting on Saturday, and had arrived via Amtrak, on Friday. As you may know, because of an accident on Amtrak in Bridgeport, CT, the Amtrak lines from Boston to New York City were closed indefinitely. I decided to rent a car and drive home to Washington, DC after my meeting on Saturday evening When I arrived at the Hertz office, the clerk was assisting another customer. She offered him several choices in types of cars to rent. When it was my turn, I asked if I could rent a car. She told me that there were no cars to rent. When I asked why she offered the other customer choices if there were no extra cars, she replied, "Cars are for customers only." I questioned why I wasn't considered a customer like him, and she kept repeating, "Cars are for our customers only," and "We have no cars to rent. I asked to see a manager, and she said there was none available. I asked for her name, and she said, "I don't have to give you my name," and proceeded to cover her name tag with her hair so I couldn't see it. I went on my iphone and made a reservation for a car from that Hertz location, and received a confirmation number. I showed it to the clerk, and she told me that there WAS a car available. So it was obvious that she had lied to me before. I persisted and she finally gave me her name. It was "Omaira." I was directed to a sub-compact car, and hurried to my meeting. I did not realize it at the time since it was daylight that the console light did not illuminate. For the entire 5 hour drive to Washington, DC, alone including rainstorms, I was unable to see my speed limit and my fuel gage. It was a terrifying experience. I have never had this type of customer service experience in my life, and am surprised that Hertz would provide such terrible service in a crisis situation brought about by a tragic train accident. read more

A very convenient location right across the street from the Stamford Amtrak/Metro-North Station, this Hertz wins the award for most cheerless desk staff. They are reasonably efficient and have always gotten my reservations correct, but clearly are not a giggly bunch. This location doesn't guarantee NeverLost (which I don't understand), but they've always had a vehicle with it when I've gone there. read more

We had a huge baseball tournament in Cooperstown NY. We spent a few days before and a few after in NYC. So we needed to get upstate. We did not want to rent a car in NYC. So we researched and found a 30 min train ride from NYC into Stamford to rent was the easiest. They were super friendly here. Ridiculously easy pick up and drop off. You get of the train, walk across the platform and on the other side of parking garage entrance way is the Hertz building, truly so simple and 3 min walk. read more

Worst experience. I just flew in from Florida. Was told on the phone I would be able to rent a car with my debit card. Get there and they refused my rental. On top of it the associate was very rude. As I waited trying to call hertz corporate 2 employs sat there bad mouthing another customer saying they don't need to take their cars they can go somewhere else! Very bad. Be AWAY from this place. I have been a golden member for more than a year. This is the worst hertz I ever experienced. I even doubt if this is a fake one. Reasons are: the lady works at front desk is extremely rude. She was talking over phone to some her friends for more than 10 mins while I was standing in front of her waiting!!! There were couple of others waiting in line too!! Also the car she gave me was tiny! I ordered a full size and that's all I got - "we only have this" according to her. Just be away from this place. They were just super rude. Unenthusiastic, unhelpful. Reading unclear questions from the computer instead of just speaking to you like a person. Totally upsold us unclear insurance info and nearly doubled the cost of our rental. Would avoid in the future. Only got 2 stars because the car itself was brand new and nice for a rental. read more

Worst customer service!!! I'm in town for almost 3 weeks for medical reasons & NEED a car. I reserved weeks ago, went today to pick up only to be told they won't accept my debit card or cash! I had my husbands credit card but he wasn't in person so they wouldn't accept. Money is money!!! I offered her more than one form of payment but nothing was good enough!! I will never use Hertz again! I was so mad & upset when I left. Not to mention carless! I walked next door to Avis, they were more than willing to help, but due to the holiday they're out of cars. I highly recommend Hertz at the Stamford, CT train station. Oscar Graham and his staff, including Nicole, have not only professionally managed reservations and returns, their service goes beyond what I've experienced before. I left my handicapped sticker in my car. They drove it all the way to Greenwich Hospital the next morning. versus not looking for it or sending it to me. Had a great experience here. Easy-on, easy-off, as far as Stamford Transportation Center passengers go. I was off the train and in my car in 10 minutes. Just walk about 100 feet south of the northbound platform and you are there. Very friendly staff and provided the usual upcharges if you are ever inclined to opt in (better car, gas top-off, insurance, etc). Easy drop off in the garage, dropped off the keys and I was out of there in less than 3 minutes. Will be using again! read more

I'm not surprised at the other reviews about the customer service, because I observed the woman at the front desk be cold and short with another customer as well as another coworker. However, once I was up next, I had a decent enough experience getting my car... Very quick, no real pleasantries, but I got my car. The car itself, though scratched up on the outside, was new and drove really well! I actually loved driving the car so it was almost like I got an extended test drive. When I dropped off the car, the process was quick and the employees I interacted with were the same employees as pickup and acted pleasant and chatty. I got the impression that they had a bad day when I picked up the car, but maybe that's the norm. Either way, I personally had a good experience with this location and would use them again. read more

Have a had a great experience both times renting from here. Not sure what the other negative reviews were about but the person at the desk was extremely friendly. There was zero line so I was in my car in minutes. Manager also does a good job of managing the fleet around the holidays so reservations can be honored. read more

I have used this location five times in the past two years and everything has always been quite perfect about it except of course the weekend closing hours. It's very convenient from Manhattan if you don't have much luggage to take the train out there and then drive. read more

This location needs some remedial customer serving training. We arrived late to the location about 20 minutes past closing time due to an Amtrak delay. They close at 7pm most nights which was a bit unexpected. Two of their staff are sitting around drinking coffee inside while I just kept knocking on the glass door. Their attitude was that if we ignore this guy long enough he will just go away. After more than 5 hours on Amtrak that really was not much of an option. After a minute one of them decides to open the door and handle the reservation. I had a requested an SUV because I was picking up family the next day from the airport and they did not have one. Not a huge deal but their claimed that not such request had been made. The car itself was not clean and the front tires were worn. The car had 30,000 miles and I think these were the original tires. It was raining heavily that night and the car was slipping all over the road. All of this I could have overlooked. After all at pickup I was the one that was late. However, when I returned the car they tried this scam about the fuel. About two miles from the location I refueled the car. When I returned the car they demanded to see a receipt for the fuel. I told them that: 1. this is the first I have ever heard of this and if this was the policy I should have been told. 2. this is why they install fuel gauges in cars...and you can check them. The Agents angrily pointed to sign at on the wall the purportedly explained this policy. To be honest, I travel weekly and have never heard of hertz or any other company franchisee try to enforce this policy. Moreover they can put a sign on the wall claiming anything they want. None of this is covered in the hertz rental contract. In the rental contract there are three options when it comes to fuel and nowhere does it state that you have to furnish the location with a receipt for the fuel you purchased. If they try to pull this with you pull out your rental contract. I sent in a formal complaint to Hertz about this two weeks ago. Thus far no response. read more

Absolutly 0 "stars" for this place. We booked a car in the end of July on CarRentals.com from Hertz for almost $500, then they also forced us to buy an insurance for $117. It was not expensive at all but on the day when we tried to pick up the car THAT WE PAID FOR...they said that our reservation is invalid and it does not matter if we paid that amount of money or not, there is no car and they do not want to help us to solve this problem...CarRentals.com is the worst booking site ever, they do not even have a call-customer care center and their partners are the same quality....never again! read more

Rented a car there this week. When I got to the car it was filthy so I asked if there was a clean car. Yes for 25.00 per day extra. They said the car wash was broken ( how is one car clean but not they other). When I complained that I should not be penalized for them not being able to deliver a clean car - they could care less. Said there was nothing they could do. Avoid this place if you can - unfriendly, not helpful and they certainly don't "try harder". Hertz is next door - It has to be better read more

The hertz office is on the street level on the station parking garage. Easy to find right off train. Quick return off interstate and back on train. I would definitely use again. read more

Cars are always dirty/dinged up.. Latina woman at front desk is always very rude. She asks for gas reciepts despite the tank being fillled as if I altered the dial or something and always assumes I'll walk outside to check the odometer when it is her job to do so. 3rd and last time. Requested GPS today and they wanted to upcharge me $45 for the GPS alone when the midsized car was only $35 for the day. Guy from Brooklyn is nice but the agency needs to own up on their customer service gaps and car care. read more

What a great experience at Hertz in Stamford Ct (across from the Metro-North station) largely due to my experience with the customer service agent Ralph. I was a little apprehensive after reading Yelp reviews about this site but find those reviews, based on my experience, very misleading and unfortunate. Perhaps changes have been made at his location that I'm not privy to but with people like Ralph behind the counter, I can't imagine a better experience. read more
