I woke up craving coffee and pancakes. I told my girlfriend, she sprung up from her sleep, and off we went! This place seemed like a good candidate for my pancake quest. The restaurant is a bit bigger than I would have guessed. It had a slightly cozy feel in a more dated way. I got a Coffee and a Diet Soda to start with. My girlfriend added zero calorie sweetener in my Coffee and I kept it black. It was on the average side, nothing crazy special, but it did the trick. I enjoyed the Diet Soda alongside the Coffee. They became good partners. I ordered the Combo #1, which included Two Pancakes, Two Sausage Links, Two Bacon Strips, and Eggs. I got the Eggs scrambled style. She got the Biscuits and Gravy. The food came out pretty dang fast. The Pancakes were moist to the bite and with butter and syrup, they were great. The Sausage was good quality and so was the Bacon. The Eggs were soft and cooked right. The Biscuits and Gravy was even pretty good. The service was excellent. Our waitress went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. She checked on us frequently. She even said not to worry about tipping, because I tried to leave a tip with my card and for some reason their system doesn't allow that. Of course, I wouldn't leave without tipping her, as she's one of the best servers I've had in quite awhile! Overall, the food is pretty solid here. I'd say their Coffee can use some work, but besides that, I recommend everyone to give them a go on their next breakfast adventure! read more

This place gets 5 stars just for how freakin' cheap it is. Their current special from 6am-2pm is 2 eggs, your choice of bacon/sausage/ham, american fries, and toast...for $3.25. Are you KIDDING me. Shocking. These poor waitresses must make nothing given how cheap the check is, so I always make sure to leave a good tip. The inside of the place is clean. Booths are nicely sized with springy seats. Oh, and those american fries (hash browns) were a nice mix of soft and crunchy. Some of the best I've ever had. The best thing about dining in Hessville is the mix of people. I've never seen a little old grandma with a cane ... and a neck tattoo. Ah, the Region. read more

Yeah, this place has good food and the staff is nice but the OWNER doesnt have a personality. Ive seen him treat the staff really bad. They are open 24hours but Sunday they do close early around 11pm til Monday morning sometime This whole place needs to be remodeled and the floors feel kinda funny like they have shifted or something. The best BISCUITS & GRAVY since 'grandma'. It may be a little out dated on the interior and the floor may be a little wavy - the bathrooms may look unappealing, but they're clean. Most, if not all, of the booth seats are very lumpy - it's best if you sat at a table. I don't think that Hessville Restaurant has changed since 1985, when I started to go there on my own. The wait staff are on their toes and the portions the cook sends out can satisfy the biggest of appetites. The prices are hard to beat and there's usually plenty of parking. read more

Used to frequent the place from the late 70s through the early 90s. Spent many a night hanging out with friends there, drinking up their endless cups of coffee. Their food was good and a real value. I used to get the Hessville Burger Deluxe, which cost about $3.00 at the time. Very tasty and filling. Since then, the neighborhood has went down the toilet. Many shady mexicans (probably gang bangers)..... Because of this, they probably decided it best to stop being open 24 hours. I miss the old days... read more

This place used to be a twenty four hour restaurant, burt that apparently changed at some point, because any time I've tried to go there late at night or early morning lately, it's been closed. So that's not cool. Some of the food is decent, but some of it is not. It's a place to go for coffee. Some of the waitresses are nice, some are not. You can start to think you somehow ended up in the South if you stay there long enough, because it has that kind of feel. read more

I left the Region in the 80s, but whenever I return I always swing by Hessville Restaurant. Besides being a blast from the past (the décor has not changed since 1977), it is THE PLACE to get a great breakfast for little more than the change in my pocket. Their country ham is superb, their home fries crispy perfection, their omelets always tasty, their coffee hot and fresh. I've always been treated very well by the waitresses who keep my mug filled and get my food to me fast. Lastly, I always sit in a booth by the counter, and the conversations I overhear -- from political discussions to gun cleaning tips to discussion of George Romero's Night of the Living Dead -- add a fascinating touch to the dining experience. read more

My Family and I have been going to the Hessville for years and We love the food here. The prices are good and the waitresses know who you and are always smiling. The AYCE perch is delicious on fridays for lent and my kids love comming for breakfast. Overall a good meal with nice people. read more

I like this place. I'm from central Michigan. My husband and I were driving home hungry, and decided to eat here. Everyone at the bar next to the kitchen knew each other's name and I enjoy that. I miss living in a town where people actually talk to each other. The staff was nice and and our server was cute, she didn't know what was in a Denver omelette but she found out. Small town, steel town America. Go if you can. We will go back next time we're in town. If your be a foodie and are looking for the best don't go. This restaurant used to be a Drug Store where you could sit down and get Cherry or Vanilla Cokes. That was back in the 60's and it was there when we moved into Hessville back in the 50's so yes it's VERY OLD. The food is GOOD for the price you pay. If you're looking for something that's SUPER fancy then this isn't the place for you. I've NEVER had bad food or service since going there. I've also been there on a Friday or Saturday Night after the bars have closed and that's at 2 or 3 in the morning. read more

I typically go this restaurant after work, which is around midnight, & will stop off here after work (usually by 12:30am). It's one of a few restaurants that's open 24 hours, except for Sunday evening, when they close at 7pm, then reopen Monday morning at 6am. When you walk in, you can tell it's dated. It looks the same as it did when it opened in the 1970's (the overnight waitress has been there since the restaurant opened in the mid 1970's). I don't know about daytime hours, but food typically comes out hot & fresh, though quality is iffy. You have the basic menu in the overnight hours, which mainly consists of breakfast & sandwiches. For the breakfast portion of the menu, my only gripe is that they don't offer waffles at night, but if you get there by 6am, they do (how hard is it to make a waffle). Whether you order breakfast, lunch, or dinner (have yet to eat here at dinner), you do get a good portion size for the money. My favorite breakfast items are eggs over easy (my preference) with bacon, toast, & hash browns, plus either a stack of pancakes (no choice in the overnight hours), or a waffle. Since I normally go there in the overnight hours, they mainly offer sandwiches, & I'll usually get the Monte Cristo or the Chicken Breast sandwich with a good helping of fries. I've only had soup there 3 times in the overnight hours, & 2 times, it was the Crème of Chicken Rice & the crème of potato. Their Crème of Potato is too chunky 7 watery, plus no real flavor, while the Crème of Chicken Rice is good. I was told that my favorite, Lemon Rice is served only on Sundays, but they close by 7pm on Sundays, that if I work Sunday, I can't go there after work. So I can't find out how well their Lemon Rice is, compared to other restaurants. While this is supposed to be a Greek restaurant, their food tastes a lot more like American food with average taste & flavor. read more
