I stepped back in time today to the burger joint of my childhood. Such a great place, authentically vintage. I went into the carry out side and placed my order. The employee who took my order was very cheerful, and I didn't wait long for my food. It's great that delicious orange sherbet is served with a meal. Onion rings are the best! Potato soup was better than homemade. My food was so good that I want to return until I try everything on the menu. Visiting the area for training and drove past a full parking lot on a Saturday. Thought this looked promising so I went back later in the evening and I'm glad I did. The restaurant itself was clean, good seating options with counter, table, and booth options. Menu variety is good, mostly sandwiches but what they have they really knock out of the park. I had the best bacon cheeseburger I've ever had. Their side of onion rings was really good, hot, fresh, homemade, and crispy! The service from Sarah was above reproach. She was so nice, helped with recommendations, and checked back regularly to ensure the meal was good and if we needed anything. The other employees working were pleasant to interact with and overall this was a great visit to a local family owned restaurant. This is the kind of place I look for when traveling. I can get fast food or chain restaurant meals at home. This place was so good I wish there was one back home in Atlanta. I'd be coming in at least once a week. I went back the following evening for dinner and tried the chopped steak dinner. This huge meal was just as good as my first visit. The steak was covered with cheese and LOADED with grilled onions! The green beans were okay and again the onion rings were on point. I was full 3/4 of the way through the meal but I couldn't stop and finished it all. Terrible service!! Waited a hour for food and some of the orders were wrong, missing and didn't come out until almost everyone was done eating. And the worst part is that the place was mostly empty. We ordered a pecan pie milkshake and instead of saying they didn't offer it, the manager had them charge us for both an individual slice of pie and a milkshake that they mixed together. We didn't find this out until we received our check!! They also advertise a "deluxe" upgrade with your burger that includes fries and their homemade orange sherbet, but we weren't informed that they didn't have anymore sherbet until we received our check. We payed for a deluxe, but only received half the items offered. Not to mention their bathrooms are a mess with pee covered floors and overflowing trash cans. This is a classic spot around since 1932 and one I have not been to in a few decades. We opted to check it out after so many years and provide our girls the 'oldies' experience. It was lovely... we loved listening to the oldies. The waitress was wonderful. The burgers and fries were really good and the girls seemed quite happy with the shakes. I'm from Texas, so for me to say Miner Dunn's burgers are as good as Whataburger's, it is the best compliment I can give them. Their cheeseburgers are amazing! The food was wonderful. Burger is what you would expect from a burger. I would recommend getting "everything" on the burger. I accidentally got mine "as is" without the added mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, and mustard. The ice cream really hits the spot and is delicious. The service was great she was attentive. I love Miner Dunn! I got a delicious Reuben and some potato soup and was impressed! I already know how delectable the Reuben was, but the potato soup was great! It was a nice thickness and was nice and tasty. Just have to make sure the potato chunks cool down a bit or else you will have molten lava in your mouth when you bite into it! We always visit when it's too late for the soup of the day so hopefully one day we will be able to try a new soup! I am a huge soup person so it is a goal for me to try some from here haha. Great burgers, soup and chili, onion rings and fries. The deluxe also includes a cup of orange sherbet or ice cream. The pies taste homemade, too. It's been one of my favorites since the mid 60's, and hasn't changed much since then, thank goodness. Always a pleasure when folks come back into town after years away from the area. Stopped in for lunch because we were both craving a cheeseburger. The place is decorated in 50's decor with lots of turquoise colors. They have plenty of booths and tables to sit at and it was pretty crowded. We both got the cheeseburger specials with a drink and orange sherbet. The food came out pretty quickly and it definitely hit the mark. They have plenty of parking and definitely wanted to try the soups or homemade pies next time. Great place to check out. read more

This place is such a gem. I like the old school interior, and that doesn't bother me unlike others. To me I think the charm of coming here(with the older decor) would be reduced a lot, if the interior got some sort of bland remodel and updating. But that is just me. Anyway great food, and I really like the orange sherbet(you also can get chocolate or vanilla) at the end of your meal if you get a deluxe combo with a burger. Strange you can't get a diced tomato on your burger, considering they also have non-burger items with diced tomatoes. That said, I still enjoyed the burger I got, which was the Highland Burger. I'd love to come back, and try more menu items. Maybe see how their soup, shakes, and pie slices are like as well. Smother it with your favorite toppings like the cheese and you're good to go. The fries are hand cut and tasty with the skin intact--thinner and a little darker in color. They are tender with a slight crispness and a lot of flavor. Definitely not those pre-purchased, frozen fries that get thrown into the fryer. The deluxe order provides a delightful twist of orange sherbet, vanilla or both. Wanting a creamsicle? Go for the orange/vanilla twist. Coffee is good, fresh and served often. My friend at work recommended that I try the place, so I stopped here after picking up my car from Gerber. There were only a few people eating when I walked in, but the place looked bright and cheery. I liked the retro radio songs playing int the background and the old fashioned photos on the wall. I ordered the cheeseburger deluxe. The burger was huge! Almost as big as the plate and tasted so good. The fries were also good. Well seasoned and crispy. The real star is the orange sherbet, which tasted like a dreamsicle push pops that I would get as a kid from the ice cream truck. Yum!!. My waitress, Belinda, was very sweet and brought me my drink right away. She also came by frequently to check on me and brought me a refill. I'll definitely stop by again soon! read more

We popped in since we always ride past and there is a crowd. It was not bad! definitely old school-interior, music, decor. There is a carry out section as well off to the side. He had the patty melt basket (as usual wherever we go!) and I had the onion burger. He's a big guy so a double patty was necessary. You REALLY have to like onions for this burger as it was smothered in them. I was fine with the single patty. You pick all the toppings you want and most are free. If you get a basket, you get a soda and a sherbert. If you get a meal, you just get a sherbert. They have the skinny fries (sigh) but they were cooked crispy as requested-hubby forgot that request and stole some of mine. As for the sherbert there was a choice of orange, vanilla or swirl. I got the swirl and thank goodness I did! The orange tasted like baby aspirin but with the cream, it toned it down. He kept stealing my vanilla since he only got the orange. This spot never fails me, food is always great as well as the service. They have good variety of burgers to choose from as well as other entrees. Soups are tasty and delicious and the accompanying fries are fresh n hot every time I've eaten there. You can dine in or carry-out, and while you can order and pickup from the host station, there is limited space. To remedy this, there is a separate carryout addition with an entrance door to the north. The carry out area has seating and ample room for waiting. I think the only thing that could add to this place is an update. The building and interior is VERY dated, especially the dining area layout. I had last eatten at Miner-Dunn 25 years ago. I had an uneventful hamburger and experience that did not inspire me to return to this beloved region restaurant. However, recently searching on Yelp for breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches near me, I came across Miner-Dunn having one. I stopped in Saturday September 9th for an early dinner and to try theirs. It was OK. Not bad but not very good either. Edible is the best one word I can think of to describe the meal. I ordered the deluxe which includes french fries and a little cup of soft serve ice cream. The Diet Pepsi was really good and free refills. My waitress was also very good and attentive. Regardless, neither of those two positives is enough to interest me in returning to eat at Miner-Dunn. read more

Miner-Dunn is a must if you're in Highland, Indiana. Yes, the building and interior might seem a bit dated but that's what adds to the charm. I've been visiting this place for over 30 years and love the feeling of nostalgia I get every time I walk through the door. They don't make diners like this anymore, that's for sure! And the food is great and the menu prices incredible. Where else can you get a burger with all the toppings, fresh fries, and soft serve sherbet included for $10?? On our most recent visit, our server was fast and attentive. We have been there on other occasions and received mediocre service, but I don't ding the restaurant for that as overall the service is always friendly and prompt.
