There's no expectation established or result promised: he truly believe in you wholeheartedly that you will succeed with your own ability. Being nervous on the road was one of my biggest weakness. A steady hand but unsteady mind create a great challenge to my livelihood. Richard, the second instructor, offered me great advice and exercises to calm my nerves. Taught me steering techniques that Nascar and F1 professional drivers would use for the cleanest and most consistent control over any vehicles. I never knew I had it in me to be assured that a decision I made, was the right one. The confidence I gained is priceless. Being calm and proactive knowing what to look out for and what to do NEXT is what I crave as a total beginner. Specifics and certainties. Brian is unironically the actual CHEAT CODE to my driving test. He knows exactly how the judges think and which route they'll take. It was almost unfair as I felt in the end, "Wait, it's that easy?" Bella was very anxious about driving and she said that not only was Brian very nice to her, but was also very calming whenever she would get nervous. He picked her up an hour before her scheduled behind-the-wheel test (at 6:00am) and after practicing for an hour he waited patiently for her to complete the test. My daughter has been driving for 2 months to prepare for her test at Fullerton DMV, a notoriously difficult place to test. About a week before I decided I wanted her to spend some time behind the wheel with someone other than myself for fine tuning. I was able to make an appt with this driving school and get a 2 hour session a couple days later. We got Nissanka as an instructor. She communicated with me to confirm day before and day of for address. She was so kind to my daughter and gave her advice I was unable to. And she took her on routes that I didn't, which ended up being the route the DMV tester took her on. I paid the $270 for 6 hours behind the wheel training, and $100 more for the practice hour before the test and trip to the DMV for my daughter and she failed the test as soon as they pulled out of the driveway of the DMV. What did my $370.00 pay for exactly? I took my lessons with Brian, and he was very helpful when it came to understanding basic rules of the road and best practices when it comes to being safe. I would be remiss, however, if I did not mention how much these lessons failed in providing me with a learning environment where I was able to gain confidence on the road. Whenever I made one little mistake (e.g, being a bit too close to the curb), he would yell and/or stomp on the brakes. Oftentimes he would yell things like "Fail!" or "No! This is common sense!" I would leave each lesson ashamed of my mistakes, and I eventually grew to hate driving. Brian also had a tendency to contradict himself when teaching me. For instance, he would tell me that I should always drive slowly when driving next to someone on a bike, then 2 or 3 lessons later, I would take his advice and drive slowly near a cyclist, and he would stomp on the gas and tell me I had to speed away from cyclists by all means necessary. I should also mention that Brian talks about his other students during the lessons. He'll make remarks about what some have been struggling with or how one of his students failed a test. Not only was this unprofessional, it just let me know that any mistake I made would be mentioned in his conversations with others. The 10-hour driving package comes with a practice drive test, where Brian/the instructor picks you up, does a practice test, and then drops you off at the DMV for your exam. Much of the practice test was filled with him yelling about mediocre "mistakes," (i.e. making a right turn and not turning the wheel as much as he prefers). To make matters worse, he berated me about how I'm not prepared for the exam and how I'm not an excellent driver. Yes, I'm still a very new driver and am not excellent by any measure, but I'm not sure that's really something to be said right before someone is about to take their instruction. Fast forward to my behind-the-wheel test that day--I'm visibly anxious and already have it in my head that I'm going to fail based on his comments. I go through the test, and when I pull into the parking lot, my examiner tells me that I've failed because I was going too slow, which is an automatic disqualification. Thinking I surely had other mistakes based on Brian's comments moments before, I asked him if there was anything else I messed up on. He passed back the evaluation score sheet and says that I was perfect except for my speed. He verbatim told me that I need to work on building my confidence and that I was being too cautious. After the examiner exits the car, Brian approaches and loudly says "You failed?! No, you get out and get in the passenger seat--you failed!" In that moment I felt like a child getting reprimanded. He essentially punished me in the middle of the parking, leaving me feeling humiliated and ashamed once again. I retook the exam 2 weeks later and passed, with literally no mistakes. I worked on building my confidence during those two weeks and actually grew to love driving. I'm not writing this review as a bitter student who wishes she was coddled more; I write this as someone who has experienced how much being yelled at while trying your hardest can negatively impact your driving abilities and relationship with driving itself. It hurt to be constantly talked down to like I was a child, and having him yell at me in front of everyone at the DMV left me in tears. I wish I were able to say that he was an encouraging instructor but unfortunately, that was not the case for me. I regret taking patronizing this business, and I will not be recommending it to others. read more

My teenage son required driving lessons. I ALWAYS do my thorough homework before choosing. This school popped up. Although it did not have the "most" ratings on Yelp, I was content with the positive reviews. I did notice it was $50 more than most schools HOWEVER it was TOTALLY worth it. They had an array of date options and times. They replied immediately each and every time. They were on time EVERY TIME. My son was sooooooo comfortable with them which was EXTREMELY important to both of us. The day of his driving test, they literally came one hour prior to his appointment to go over things and to refresh him. They picked him up from home, took him to his appointment, AND dropped him off at home. Needless to say, my son passed with flying colors and in iterally 7 minutes. Thank you, Hi Driving School. Had the best experience with Hi Driving School! Before them, I took the DMV test twice and failed both times, causing me to give up trying. Well I have a baby now so I knew I needed to get my license. I bought the 10 hour DMV Drive Package which is 10 hours of training and then they accompany you to the DMV for your test, let you use their car, and they also give you one hour of prep before the test! It cost me $520 which is a really good deal. My instructor was Brian for the first and last lesson and the behind the wheel test, Nissianka was my instructor for the other 3. They are both good instructors! When I had my first lesson with Brian, I had some experience but was not at all confident. One of the first things Brian asked me was when my DMV test appointment was going to be, I told him I hadn't made an appointment and he had me make one right then and there which made me nervous because it was going to be 2 weeks from that day and I did not think I would be ready so soon. I made the appointment to be at Bellflower which was an area I was totally unfamiliar with because I live in Whittier so that made me extra nervous and made me already think I was going to fail since I don't know those streets. Well I did my lessons and Brian is a good teacher, he encourages you to be confident, he makes you repeat the same maneuvers until you get it right, and he coaches you to drive safely. The day my test came, I felt nervous because like I said, I don't know the Bellflower area well but Brian told me, "If you know how to drive, it doesn't matter where you drive, it's all the same thing" which is totally true! I told myself I was going to pass no matter what, I just had to be confident and remember everything I learned. Well I ended up passing with only 4 points taken away! I wanted to cry when the examiner told me I passed, I was so excited and so happy that I finally got my license and I have Brian and Nissianka to thank for that! By the way, I highly recommend the Bellflower DMV to take your behind the wheel test. The examiners are so nice and polite and my test was only 10 minutes. Do Not recommend! Very unprofessional. Instructor kept texting me all the time and expected an answer fast. Rescheduling was hell. Now that I used a different school I can say that they don't actually teach much. I spent half of first lesson in the car not moving at all. After a couple of lessons, I complained and then I had the owner for one leason. He kept saying people at the DMV want a driver with 5 years experience which I found hilarious. He kept directing me to go left and right and left and right for the whole lesson. It was a very stressful experience and I waisted my time and money! My current instructor gives me directions on how to achieve maneuvers before he expects me to do it. I've learned in 3 lessons what Hi driving has failed to teach me in 5. I'm expecting the owner to say he doesn't know me or that I don't live in his area because this is how they address negative reviews. Denial!
