They have an extensive menu of small bites, nigiri, sashimi, sushi rolls, salads, rice dishes and more so it was (as usual) difficult for me to decide what to order. We made some great choices! Bacon Steakie Bun: If a bao bun is on a menu anywhere, I'm definitely getting it! This bun was gently fried, setting it apart from the many bao buns I've eaten. It gave a nice texture contrast to the tender pork belly. Delish! Brussels Sprouts: I don't think I've ever gone to a restaurant and NOT ordered these mini cabbage-like delights! These may now hold the number one spot for me! Lemongrass, caramel, sea salt, and lemon juice. Perfectly crispy outside and just soft enough inside. The balance of sweet, salty, and acidic made these flavor bombs our favorite dish of the night! Takoyaki: another usual favorite of mine, but these were a bit underwhelming. While these are probably more authentic with the spring roll-like filling, I prefer the creamy, cheesy ones. Kani Salad: Another go-to item for us. A simple salad that for some reason just always makes us happy. Spring mix, crab sticks, cucumber, tempura flakes, and a spicy mayo dressing. Light, but full of flavor and texture. Truffle Hama: Yellowtail, avocado, truffle ponzu, and candied garlic, served under a smoke-filled glass. I just can't express how delicious this was! I will order this again there 10 out of 10 times. Sushi: We started with a piece of Smoked Salmon Belly Nigiri. Perfect! We then had a simple salmon and avocado roll. A really good classic sushi roll with very generous pieces of salmon and avocado. Trash Panda Roll: tuna, salmon, mango, grilled green onion, and crunchy garlic. Good flavors with good texture. Paradise Roll: a soy paper roll (I prefer the soy wrap to nori) with spicy lobster salad, shrimp tempura, topped with banana tempura and mango sauce. Very different with the tempura-fried banana on top, but really good! I especially liked the mango sauce on top. I would order that again. It is a bit more of a drive than our usual Huntsville favorite of Oshi and our close to home favorite in Decatur, Sushi Sumo, but worth the drive occasionally! #HeatherEats #GirlsNightOut

People started mentioning Miso Happy to me a solid year and a half before I finally went. Then it was a... Tsunami. I've always brought no less than 4 people and thrice now there's been groups of teens on tatami mats and gallons of boba. I think what makes Miso Happy is it's ability to be approachable but also fairly authentic in its offerings. This building was... something else. This restaurant used to be called Edo, like the old world Japanese capital and a ton of American Japanese steakhouse across the nation. It looks like a traditional sukiya-zukuri which really has a casual but refined "vibe"... Great for friends and family alike. If you have a group, there's tatami and seiza setting --be advised: drop your shoes and your butt closer to the floor. There's also an embrace of this anime wave as Totoro motif that somehow fits. The staff is inviting and works to accommodate changes as they come up. Now I haven't tried every sushi roll in the place yet but it's reliably fresh and tasty. There's no euphoric or transcendent experience to be had as far as I've experienced BUT... They don't miss, either. There's also donburi and hibachi, bento boxes and lots of "comfortable" dishes to make everybody feel at home. And then there's the ramen. It's among the best in Huntsville... and that's considering even some favorite ramenya in town like Kamado and new comers like Kyuramen. The broths are distinguishable, deeply flavored and has something for just about everyone: shoyu, tonkatsu, beef and veggje/miso options in deep tetsu bowls with a really nice aesthetic. I tried the big wave poke bowl last time and they're also satisfying... Further pushing the idea that Miso Happy is a great Japanese generalist in town.
