We ordered the teriyaki chicken and the hibachi chicken and you honestly could not tell them apart from each other, they tasted exactly the same. One came with two pieces of broccoli while the other came with some mushrooms. The food was good though and the prices were reasonable. read more

We've only gotten their food as carry out/delivery, but it is our favorite hibachi in town. Many others offer bland options they hope you'll drown with shrimp sauce and soy. Hibachi offers flavorful noodles and veggies along with traditional hibachi items. Would recommend over any other hibachi in the Tri-Cities. read more

I have been to Hibachi Express a few times throughout my semester here. When your food gets to you correct it is good, and it is cheap. But, I have been there about 6 or 7 times and they have messed my order up twice, and I found hair in my food twice. The first time I thought, oh well it happens and threw away the food. But the second time it was the largest piece of hair I had ever seen in food before. It was so nasty and I will not be going here again. If I were you I would pay the extra couple of dollars to get cleaner food. Also, the customer service is terrible. This place offers really good food. The only problem I have is it just takes awhile to get your food, but it's made fresh and to order. The customer service is really quite terrible, but they have never gotten my order incorrect. The restaurant itself looks kind of "sketchy", but it really does make delicious food. On yelp if you click check in and show your phone screen it pulls up a coupon for a free drink or two egg rolls... The small white girl with braces at the counter would not give us the coupon even though we showed her our phones and that it was a yelp check in promotion. I spent 16 years in JC and left in 2004. I come back to visit family and every time I do I eat hibachi. I think JC has some of the best hibachi in the US! We took a chance on this place and it paid off. 7 people ate for around 60 bucks! You just can't beat that. While the amount of food was not quite what some other hibachi dine ins offer, it was still very substantial. I love everything about it. Not a complaint. As well, we went to the drive in with an order for 7 ppl and they were prompt and friendly in their service. I will go back!! read more

Look, this has potential, but always disappoints. Except for the spring rolls, which are worth a drive thru. Which may remind you of a BK drive thru. Because that's what it used to be, in a previous life. And the spring rolls may just be the best in town. But this isn't a town known for our spring rolls. And spring rolls don't make a meal. Welcome to Value Town. Sometimes you get what you pay for. Seems like a bad sign when they ask if your have cash BEFORE they will take your order. Of course I have cash! Well, today anyhow. Hibachi express opened about the time when there was only one Japanese fastfood in town and that was way too pricy for a college student. The place was great, simple and in the right area (old burgerking market street) If you are looking for good Japanese food at reasonable prices - then this is the place for you. We have had the hibachi chicken, hibachi steak and hibachi shrimp - and all were great. This is especially good - if you want good Japanese food without all the fuss of the cooking show. They do have open kitchen in front of the grill so you can watch - but they don't do tricks. Saves time & cuts down on the costs. read more

The sign out front is a 100% bait and switch. From the road the banner reads "$5 ETSU MEAL WITH FREE DRINK OR TWO EGGROLL" as do all of the signs out front but once you get into the parking lot in the smallest faded writing, you can see the 5 scribbled out and a $6 poorly written in the tiniest font underneath. The food is good, and portions are HUGE, and is totally worth $6. But tricking your customers is not a sound business practice.... You can get a sticker with a 6 on it for $5. Well, it's drive thru hibachi so that's the quality you get. First off, hibachi isn't really authentic Japanese so you can expect it to be Americanized, I was just so hungry I didn't care--quantity over quality in this case. I went in to sit down and eat and this is what I got: average service, neither terrible nor exceptional, it was clean as far as I can tell, food was fresh and cheap with a huge portion. It did its job and got my stomach too full to want to drive back to Nashville. The reason this gets two stars is because the decor was a mix of Japanese, grandma's house, and Burger King. Also the music selection *facepalm*--imagine the horror of hearing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in August, as if it's not bad enough at Christmas time. Their hours state that they are open till 10, but yet when we called for a pickup order at 9:15, they first refused to take our order because "they were closing", then complied to our complaint that we live 5mins away so took our order, then refused to do an up charge to switch our side of carrots for the broccoli, and then proceeded to hang up on us. So we call back, you can HEAR them pick up the phone, hit a couple numbers, and then hang up on us AGAIN. I will start by saying that half way through our meal, my son found a long BLACK HAIR in his rice, which ended the meal for us all. The food was just OK up to that point. This wasn't traditional Japanese. They put mushrooms in the hibachi chicken, and A LOT of them. They were unorganized and got our order and the people in front of us' order wrong too! Our party of 3, their party of 5, and then a couple that already had their food were the ONLY people in the place on a Friday night. The prices were fine, BUT we will never be back! I've always drove past this place and have always been skeptical to go in. The building itself looks very sketchy, but don't be fooled. This is some of the best Chinese food I've had for such a low price. As a broke college student, we are always looking for places to take student discounts. They offer a meal and drink for only $5! Well worth the price too for how much of a portion you get! The only reason I give them only 4 stars is because of the curb appeal and the drive thru speaker. The speaker is really hard to hear.
