We came here to celebrate a special family dinner, and unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing. Everyone at our table received their food in a timely manner--except me. I ordered the hamachi kama and was told it would take about 20 minutes to bake, which I was completely fine with. However, after waiting... and waiting... and watching my entire family finish their meals, we were then told my order had been messed up because the restaurant got backed up and busy and would take another 10-15 minutes. At that point, nearly everyone was done eating, so I asked for my meal to be boxed to-go. We spoke with a manager, Chris, who apologized and told us the meal would be comped--which felt like an appropriate resolution given the situation. But after sitting there for almost TWO HOURS total, my husband and son went to follow up, only to be told that my order had been completely canceled. The reasoning? That they "weren't going to comp something and let you walk out with free food." That response was honestly shocking. I never asked for anything extra--just the meal I ordered, even if it had to be to-go at that point. Instead, I left without eating at all. The lack of communication, the excessive wait, and the way the situation was handled at the end completely ruined what was supposed to be a celebratory night. Really disappointing experience. We didn't even want to order the desserts we planned on ordering because at that point, they didn't deserve another dollar. There were 7 of us eating tonight. We all had different things. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. The area where we were seated was very clean. The cook put on a good show. The restaurant was busy but the service was quick. Noise level was normal for that type of dining. The menu had something for everyone's needs. My only complaint would be, I felt rushed after the meal to leave by the service people. They were quickly cleaning up to the point of stepping between people talking to each other and placing clean dishes on the hibachi for the next group coming in. read more

The food and service was good however my son had the pork ramen. He began feeling sick while we were there. I thought he had eaten too much. He threw up in the parking lot and again on the way home. We're relatively new to the area and when I spoke to a friend about his experience she said Yuimaru was somewhat notorious for food poisoning. I came here to see if anyone had experienced the same. The restaurant seems dirty as you walk into dinning room. The way the hibachi tables are set up most people are facing the chefs back. The prep cart seemed dirty and food wasn't really cold. The butter was yellow in a liquidly form. They use sooooo much cheap tasteless oil and gross fake butter. The rice was just too many fried eggs rice and cups of oil and futter. ZERO FLAVOR. The steak was 1/2 inch if that looked brown, seafood yuck small farm raised cheap shrimp small scallops NOT JUMBO. they cook the seafood by the raw chicken that in itself made my skin crawl. The seafood was undercooked and covered in raw chicken juice the steak tasteless as well as the seafood. They think that just adding more oil and futter imparts flavor?!? The veggies over cooked in raw meat juice and Zero flavor. We drove over an hour to try this slop because our wonderful hibachi in Asheville still closed from Helene. McDonald's fish sandwich meal would have been 1000% better. Terrible hibachi experience, so if you like food cross contamination, oily and hospital tasteless food please eat the hibachi. We often order from here via DoorDash but decided to go in person. We sat outside, which was nice. I usually get yakisoba so I tried something new and the Japanese curry I ordered was great. I got beef but I'd probably choose chicken next time. After dinner we sat at the bar for a drink while I got a to go order to take home. I ordered a gin mule and couldn't finish it. Not a bar, so no big deal but I couldn't taste the ginger beer at all. Just gin & lime. No fizz at all. Big thumbs down for the drink. read more

True legit ramen offered at Yuimaru! We have been searching the Tri-Cities area for good ramen and their Tonkotsu Ramen is absolutely flavorful and one of the best comfort foods I truly enjoy! Yuimaru Kitchen also offers Hibachi service which locals love to enjoy. The place is warm and inviting. Our service staff was so pleasant as we mentioned this was our first time visiting and how much we enjoyed our meal. Price wise, the sushi rolls were comparable and competitive. The ramen is pricier than what we usually spent in other restaurants, but knowing what goes into making a great ramen broth; it's definitely worth it and what a treat it is!!! You won't be disappointed. Glad to find Yuimaru and excited come back for our next ramen fix! read more

in house is great but pick up is rough. my sushi was put ontop on the wasabi and ginger so there was no flavor control with that just straight wasabi taste. Calamari is put on a bed of lettuce causing any of the fried parts touching the lettuce to get fully soggy. Do not recommend for pickup. read more

The service was very good and attentive. The spicy crab roll was really good as well as the sesame chicken. The only thing that was a down side to the restaurant was the desert. I wanted the tempura ice cream however they were out so I decided on the fried Oreos and my girlfriend got the Mochi ice cream. Review of Yuimaru Kitchen - Disappointing Service Despite Good Food Our party of five dined at Yuimaru Kitchen expecting the usual enjoyable experience, but instead, we were met with some of the worst service we've had in a long time. The manager was nowhere to be seen, and it took 15 minutes before our waitress even came by to take our drink order. From there, things didn't improve. We were never given utensils, so we had to walk around the restaurant ourselves to find napkins, forks, and chopsticks. The waitress -- along with the other wait staff -- seemed more interested in chatting with each other than serving the customers. We ordered appetizers and specifically requested that our main courses not arrive immediately. That request was ignored, and everything came out at once. To be fair, the food itself was delicious. But excellent food doesn't make up for inattentive and disorganized service. I even called and left a message for the manager to discuss the experience, but I've yet to receive the courtesy of a return call. We've been loyal customers, visiting twice a week and spending anywhere from $80 to $160 each time on sushi and other menu items. But after this visit -- and another poor experience recently -- we've decided we won't be returning. Bottom line: Yuimaru Kitchen seems to put most of its effort into the Hibachi side of the business. If you're looking for Hibachi, you may have a good time here. But for a normal dining experience, I'd recommend going elsewhere. read more

Terrible service today. Waited 30 minutes at the end to even get our check after asking for it 4 times. Had to ask multiple times thru out our service for other things. And didn't get a tea on our order (we both got water) and got charged for one. When we told the guy (Loc) he didn't do anything about it. Just simply said "oh, it's probably their tea they got." (Another couple at our table, which it wasn't theirs either because they got charged for their teas.) Didn't even bother to take it off our ticket, just left it for us to pay. Andddd the other couple asked if their meal came with noodles and the guy told them no, so they ordered some. Their meal indeed come with noodles (so they ended up with extra which they didn't really want) and they were confused. They asked about it and the guy again was confused like he didn't understand the issue. Bad service today. May consider not coming back. read more

Korean AND sushi! Sushi-great quality, fresh and large pieces surprisingly--top notch for this region. I had the not so well known Chirashi bowl w rice, see photo, and although it didn't have the tamago egg, I will totally get it again! Our friends had the rolls and sashimi, and they were fantastic. The best part was that this is also a Korean restaurant--rare in this area. They had very good kimchi served w the spicy pork bulgogi-pretty authentic. I normally don't care for the hibachi so didn't do that that was busy on a Sat night--we sat outside in the back covered area as our friends chose the place and so I was surprised by the Korean dish options (they had bulgogi too on the menu--for next time). Service was fair but our gal tried hard as our order was all over the place, our fault. The kitchen screwed up on tix, and she covered it well all considering. Oh--and the appetizers were great---Hamachi Kama--normally hard to find as it is grilled yellowtail jaw --so not too many of those are around; and the spicy edamame were great. read more

We've dined here a couple of times now and the verdict is that it's a decent spot that's close to home. The first time we came in, we asked about the toro and wagyu as well as uni, but they don't serve it to customers anymore which was disappointing. The servers were really nice both times, but their menu knowledge could be improved. Here are the things we've tried so far: *pork gyoza - 5/5 can't go wrong here. Served with dipping sauce. *tuna tataki - 1/5 seasoning was so bland, also not enough sauce. Used to having it come with onions at other restaurants, but it was just in a bed of carrots. Definitely wouldn't get this again. *salmon, yellowtail, eel sashimi - 5/5 fresh! *philly roll - 5/5 *kamikaze roll - 4/5 for a speciality roll, it is a bit small. The base roll or slices of fish on top could be bigger. It is a good one though. *Q roll - 3/5 very light and refreshing, but a bit too much cucumber for a naruto. *spicy sashimi salad - 2/5 the small amount of fish was cut so tiny and the salad was very small for a $15 entree. What we did like was that the fish was fresh and the sauce had a good spice level to it! Like I said, the food here is decent, but I'm not in love with it and I love sushi. I've decided on four stars only because I can't give half stars & it's one of the best sushi spots you'll find here in Johnson City. The sushi rice could be improved a bit, maybe with more rice vinegar. And the specialty rolls could be a tad bigger, but the fish here is fresh and everything is prepared well. Sauces are free of charge which I love, although the ponzu could use some work. The staff is super friendly and nice, and there are happy hour drink specials every evening, along with sushi night on Wednesday nights (dine in @ dinner only)! They also have a points system through Clover to earn $5 coupons which is really awesome, so hold onto your receipts for those codes. read more

So I'm giving this place 2 stars and here's why, ( I picked up my order btw) 1. It was pretty warm in there like the air flow was not great, not like sweating but then again idk if I might have been if we stayed and ate. 2. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, it was bland. The only thing that really gave it flavor was dumping the chili oil I was given and it helped but not much. Wouldn't get it again but the chili oil itself was great. My hub got the poke bowl, there wasn't nearly as much fish to make the bowl $17 at all and the masago was missing on the bowl. 3. Kind of made me worried about the condition of the sushi since it was warm in there and my hubs poke bowl was sitting out since it was a pick up. also the people having Hibachi since it would be super hot sitting in front of that. I went because a lot of people recommended but for the price of two things coming out to $40 not including tip, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

Main reason for rating is we waited about 45 mins if not an hour for our entrees which is quite irritating. The only thing we had gotten before that was an appetizer and our water + thai tea. The server we had was real nice, just in my opinion, that's way too slow for service. The that tea was a bit too sweet as well, but that's not a big deal. We had soft shell crab for app & this dish was actually quite good, but again we were starving waiting for our entrees after this. For entrees my partner got eel don buri which he thought was good and I had the spider roll. Sadly the spider roll was one of the worst I've had. The roll was mainly filler and the crab itself which should have been the star of the show was very minimal per bite and the roll was kind of soggy. It also was a bit too sweet tasting which it shouldn't have been. I was quite disappointed in that roll. I will say though we also got yellowtail sashimi & it was well priced and delicious. I just feel like simple dishes like a spider roll shouldn't be done wrong and again service should not be that slow. read more

Got some ramen for take out tonight and oh my goodness this was our first time and it was so good!! My husband got the Spicy ramen and it was quite spicy but he loved it. So good. I got the tan tan men which was very good, flavorful and not spicy. Both ramens come with a soup and salad both miso soup and ginger salad were very delightful. This place is amazing. I was not expecting to find ramen this good while on assignment in Tennessee but Yuimaru Kitchen delivered some of the best we have had! I went with the Tonkonsu ramen as always and was not disappointed. The broth had tons of flavor and I don't think I've had one quite like this before. Tons of veggies, fish cake and noddles definitely made it filling. Ramen is comfort food for me and I will definitely be back for more. As a side note they offer a 12 year aged Japanese whiskey that paired pretty well with my noodles and at a great price Great place I look forward to many more visit during my time in Tennessee read more
