DANGGG- that was my first reaction when handed the to-go box. They pack it full of food and it's heavy, meaning you're getting a great deal. I can't imagine the dinner portion. I was so happy to have my "gas station hibachi" as I call it when I visited this past weekend. The food was so good and fresh and we were able to have a lot of Yum Yum Sauce on the side. The food was able to stay hot and fresh while we ran a couple of orders out to Cave Run nearby for lunch for the rest of the family. Great go-to for take away food. There is a small dine in option that I hope one day becomes more cafe style but for now we are enjoying just having the option for good Hibachi food in our town! We stopped on our way to Louisville because of the reviews. Pulling in, I was a smidge concerned because it shares a building with a gas station.. it was surprisingly delicious! Like many others have stated, I would have rolled in by after fueling up my car at the Valero gas station that is attached to Hibachi Express....except for those reviews. Used the online link to order Hibachi Filet Mignon and Shrimp. Go big or go home for just $14.95. The drive thru was busy for pickup- a good sign, I think- and I did not have to wait more than a minute for my turn. The to-go serving had enough protein, veggies and fried rice to feed 2 people and it was prepared perfectly. The filet was shockingly tender and the shrimp a larger size than expected. It also came with a spring roll which I didn't try. I would definitely eat here again!! read more

Dropped in during the dinner rush, and it was very busy. The three people running the place seemed a little overwhelmed. Here's the thing with Hibachi: it's meant to be cooked in small portions (think Benihana), and not as large heaps of meat or vegetables on a grill. This place did more of the latter when I was there, and as a result my some of my chicken was overdone, not all of it was properly seared, and my veggies were generally overcooked. Given what I presume to be a lack of options in Morehead, Hibachi Express fills a need (and a belly: the portions are large!), but I've had better. read more

What a little treasure we found tucked beside a gas station! My family loves Japanese hibachi and are used to paying big $$$ in our hometown to get it. We found this on yelp while searching for a place to eat in Morehead on our way home from camping. The ingredients were fresh, cooked right behind the counter and were very tasty! You also cannot beat the price! My husband ordered steak and chicken, I ordered steak and shrimp and our daughter also ordered steak. All the meals came with rice, vegetables and sauces. I usually like giving mean reviews of places I'm not too fond of but I am doing an about face on this one. Hibachi Express is an ideal restaurant for those who like cheap fast Japanese food. My daughter's have developed a bizarre epicurean palette that consists of much "hibachi" type restaurants. This would be OK if it weren't so high. Here in eastern KY you are often out far more than $100 just to feed your ravenous family. SCREW THAT! My nurse wife told me of this little place that delivered to her place of work that was much cheaper than most Japanese places. The seating inside is very limiting. Much like a papa Johns. Yea you could eat here if you don't mind plastic cutlery, Styrofoam to-go boxes and cramped quarters. Not a good place to take a first-time date but ideal to take a family that barely tolerates you. I had my usually, chicken and steak. It was good. Not overly glutinous in the serving portions. The steak was slightly over cooked for a "medium". That's what I get for ordering extra medium. My wife and mom-n-law (mama) seemed to enjoy their meals (steak and shrimp). I will order the filet mignon and chicken next time because it was only $1 more than what I got. I'm not sure how my daughter's felt about their meals. The older one loves and requests the jap food all the time. I think she just likes wasting money and fancier eating establishments. My younger daughter probably hated it because she is more punk than her sister and hates everything. We also got the "clear soup." It was cheap and we hoped it would be similar to that "clear 'soupish' stuff they serve us at our favorite Hibachi establishment. That was the original Huntington establishment. I don't like being mandated that I must tip 15%. I'm not impressed by Asian guys twirling spatulas and throwing food in my mouth. One time I had one throw me a shrimp and it landed square on my eyeball. I'm not tipping 15% for the privilege of losing an eye from a grilled morsel. Back on point. The clear soup appeared to be the same as the other. It deserves a better name. Their spring rolls weren't as good as mama's but they weren't bad either. The kicker: I treated my family to a rather satiating Japanese meal for approximately $50 less than what I'm usually on the hook for. I will be back. read more

However what you will find is your typical hibachi fare at reasonable prices. Is it the best food you've ever had? No. But understanding where you are and the portions that you receive, this is a solid place in Morehead. When I first came to Morehead as a freshman in college, I didn't think eating food from a gas station restaurant was a good idea...But it was probably one of the best decisions from college.
