Y'all not even exaggerating when I say this but Daimaru 100% lives up to the hype. Took forever for me to finally try this spot and I wish I had tried it sooner-- everything from the broths, meat/produce selection, sauce bar, service, and atmosphere really impressed my friend & I. All of their meats were fresh, well tempered (not stale/straight out of the freezer). Condiment bar was self serve and had a wide selection to customize your sauce. Their veggies were also very fresh & the appetizers such as wings & the squid ink dumpling were AMAZING. Soft drinks are also included in the Premium AYCE price at $45/pp after tax. All of their waitstaff we interacted with were kind, patient, attentive, and helpful. Their seating layout is also notable-- each individual table was enclosed, it gave a more cozy/private feel rather than loud & overstimulating despite dining during peak hour. If I could critique even just one thing, it'd be the dessert options, almond pudding and ice jelly were a bit disappointing to end the meal with cuz they weren't great in our opinion, but not problematic enough for me to dock a star. Next time I'm craving hotpot, Daimaru will absolutely be at the top of my choice list moving forward! read more

This AYCE Japanese hot pot is a staple and always soooo good even after all these years! Daimaru is one of those spots that you find yourself going back to over and over again. They always have innovative new creations to add to the menu seasonally so that you're never feeling bored with the items you get. You no longer order sauces with the wait staff, but instead it's a DIY sauce station. They have their recipes of their signature sauces on the wall for you to make yourself though. Meats are high quality, soup bases are delicious and selection of food items are great. Some stand out items that is new and tried recently: - Golden crunch fish bites - Nagoya style chicken wings - Premium beef chuck - Beef brisket - Sirloin - Snakehead fish - Shrimp - Shrimp paste - Wide cut beef tripe - Crispy tofu skin roll - Baby kelp - Bamboo shoot Can't wait to be back again over and over again! read more
Back again after several months. A few things have changed. Wagyu option only comes with Wagyu and premium drinks as the special items. In the past there was seafood that was unique to that menu. Looks like there went cheaper as there is less premium seafood. Added the fish bites like gyubee has. You can still get the old dipping sauces if you like them. I love the garlicky soy sauce one and they can give it to you. Otherwise you can just make your own at the station. Overall still good. Love the sukiyaki read more
I checking Yelp all the way en route to the restaurant and it's saying zero minutes wait. I get there and I'm told that it's an hour and a half. So put my name down when I just give them a heads up that "hey your yelp waiting list was indicating it was zero minutes late" and I just caught some attitude and it wasn't great. we're getting closer to the top three spots so we decided to sit in the inside of the restaurant and wait a group of men came in asking if there was a table and they were told no - the next opening would be 11 PM. Tell me how all of a sudden they get seated before us, meanwhile we were the same amount of people in our party. Anyway if it was not for Sanny we probably would've just left. She was amazing, very attentive and she was super knowledgeable. Give this woman a raise. She deserves it 1000%. So you wanna talk about the food - we went with the premium all-you-can-eat option we will say that good portions, good flavours and good drinks. Bring cash it's better. read more

Favourite Japanese ayce shabu shabu. I introduce all my friends and they usually bring their family the following week. Food quality is great, good variety and selection Service is fantastic. I absolutely loved my experience at Daimaru! The staff is extremely attentive and for an all you can eat the quality of the meat is actually really good. It was a bit of a wait, given it was a Friday night but totally worth it! To top it off the creme brulee is divine! I always end up eating at least 2-3 for dessert! read more

**FOOD SAFETY CONCERN** DANGER ** We are a table of 9 adults (7 of them seniors) and 1 baby. If you bring a baby, they do not have high chairs, only booster seats FYI. We called ahead since we are a party 6+. We had to try multiple times because our call was left unanswered.. Overall food was great .. until I found something shiny stuck to a shrimp in the hotpot. I was able to figure out what it was once I took it out. A flexible SHARP STEEL filament - Likely from steel wool. GROSS!!!!! And DANGEROUS!!! After I found that, it ruined my appetite and night. I became paranoid and worried about my family biting into steel. Will this result in a trip to the hospital? The server was apologetic and helped us change the broth immediately but honestly I wish there was more from management. It's not like finding a strand of hair. This is serious!!! Daimaru's lack of food safety and poor hygiene is unacceptable. I am still fuming that this happened. They are lucky I found it before any of the 7 seniors found it stuck in their throat or intestines. The nice servers had to hear our anger and frustration. Eventually after the second complaint from us did the manager finally decide to come in personally and address it. Should have addressed it the moment it happened in my opinion. If you eat here, eat at your own risk and check your food carefully. Attaching our receipt of the resolution: 10% off our entire bill. Won't be recommending to anyone. read more
The food is always so good here, I always recommend the Sukiyaki flavour. Service is quick and hotpot is always such a fun experience with friends. The interior is designed well; it can get a bit crowded and is sort of maze-like trying to navigate. Prices are a bit high, but quality of the ingredients is so great. Would definitely recommend this place! Also, make sure to reserve seats in advance/get on the waiting list earlier in the night because waiting times are LONG. read more
If you're heading to Daimaru, do yourself a favour, hop on Yelp and join the waitlist before leaving. It gives you an estimated seating time that's surprisingly accurate. Sadly, we didn't know that. Sadly, we had no idea this feature existed, so even though we arrived at 5 p.m., we didn't get seated until 7:30. If only we'd queued up from the couch first. Lesson learned. The AYCE premium dinner set per person ($34.99 on weekdays and $36.99 on weekends or holidays) as well as a soup base per table ($19.99). Most tables go for the classic sukiyaki, that sweet and salty broth that seeps deliciously into everything it touches. For variety, we added the pork bone broth, a cleaner, more neutral option that lets seafood flavours shine. After that long wait, we were starving, so Daimaru's selection of cooked items was a welcome sight. The Nagoya-style chicken wings were a hit! Sweet, salty, peppery, and lightly crisped while still juicy. The beef tataki, thin slices of seared beef swimming in ponzu and scallions, was another flavour bomb. There's no shortage of fried bites either. The crispy pork was spicy, crunchy, and generous in portion. Miles better than the steak cutlet, which was a little too soft for my taste. Still, pace yourself... you're here for the hot pot! Daimaru's ingredient list has a few surprises, like garlic pork ribs and beef tendon. The garlic mellows in the broth but still holds flavour, while the tendon softens quickly, turning silky and jelly-like in under ten minutes. With six sliced meats on the menu, it feels like the sky's the limit. We stuck to crowd-pleasers (beef chuck, brisket, and sirloin) each with subtle differences, all perfect for dipping. Out of all the other ingredients, a few stood out. The squid balls were dense and bouncy with real bits of seafood. The shrimp paste had actual shrimp chunks that plump up beautifully when cooked, giving a great contrast in texture. I also loved the crispy tofu skin rolls - an underrated alternative to noodles that soaks up broth like a dream. Oddly, Daimaru doesn't offer spoons, so if you want a sip of soup, this is your best bet. The slotted bowls, however, are genius. They drain excess broth, so your dipping sauce (go for the spicy garlic soy) stays punchy, not watered down. For the shabu shabu enthusiasts, Daimaru offers both raw and onsen eggs for dipping. The onsen version looks raw but cracks open to reveal a just-set custardy yolk. It's oddly satisfying when it slips out of the shell. The vegetable selection is generous, with a few surprises like a-choy, which you don't often see elsewhere. I did miss watercress though, my go-to hot pot green. Still, the king oyster mushrooms and black fungus made up for it, both soaking up the broth perfectly. Whatever you do, save room for dessert. The Hokkaido milk pudding topped with a peach-pineapple compote was a little on the sweet side but refreshingly tangy. Still, the real star was the soft serve ice cream cone: creamy, nostalgic, and the perfect happy ending to a comforting meal. Operationally, Daimaru runs like a well-oiled machine. Orders hit the table almost as soon as you submit them, the broth arrived while we were still picking ingredients. Despite the two-hour dining limit, we finished comfortably in under 90 minutes, never once feeling rushed. read more
Came with a few friends for their AYCE Lunch Happy hour at 12pm on a Saturday. It's $28.99 per person on a weekend and includes the soup base. The inside was comfortable and spacious. Service was very prompt. Unfortunately my pictures are not good but EVERYTHING was great and fresh. As for their meats, I definitely prefer their beef. But they also have pork, lamb, shrimp, Basa fish, and squid. I have no complaints and quite frankly, I think it is a steal at this price point. Their full lunch menu is available on their website. Overall: Great AYCE hot pot place. Friends are from New York City and they can't believe how cheap it was! Will definitely come back again and I highly recommend it. I wish I took better quality pictures. NOTE: They only accept Debit or Cash. Also if coming for dinner, I highly recommend you to make a reservation or join their waitlist powered by Yelp. We tried coming Friday night and was told the wait was 2 hours so we came back the next day. read more
One of my go to hotpot locations! The food is nice and fresh. Very good quality. Normally we go for the late night special which has slightly more limited menu, but has more than enough of everything you would get without a feeling like you're missing anything. Service is really good. Someone comes check and refills the broth in your pot and your water pretty occasionally. You order food and it comes really quick. Staff is very nice. It is a little loud from other customers talking music is played, but not super loud still easy to talk to your table, mates, and friends without screaming at each other If you like hot pot, definitely recommend giving this place to go! read more
This place is a great try! The quality is good and service was great. They also have a wide variety of selections. They also comes with some appetizers like takoyaki, salmon caparico, etc. For dessert, they also include ice cream with cone, creme brulee, herbal jelly, etc. Although this time I came with other relatives and didn't get to try out the wagyu AYCE, but the premium package was pretty good too!! My family and I definitely eat the money worth. read more

I have always been an at home hot pot kind of person, but having heard amazing things about Daimaru I had to get it for my birthday. I joined the Yelp waitlist last minute so it was showing a four hour wait time on a Friday night?! Luckily we were grocery shopping around the area and decided to walk in to see the availability, and turns out someone had just missed their 10 minute window on their reservation so we got the table. Yay! We got the premium dinner set and opted for two broths. Pork bone, and the other was a spicy sour tomato broth. I preferred the pork bone broth more just because I am not a fan of spicy sour combo. We ordered a variety of meat, seafood and veggies which all came out super fast. And we got hot appetizers as well, our favourites being the chicken wings. Wasn't a big fan of steak cutlet, the brown sugar mochi and takoyaki. The best sauce however was using the onsen egg as a dip for everything. Omg! The service was impeccable with refills and cleanup being done nicely and efficiently. We never ran out of space on our table despite having a huge spread. For dessert my favourite was the ice cream, it's just so refreshing to have something cool after hot pot! This is definitely worth the experience even if you are usually an at home hot pot person like me. The quality of food and service at the price point is great value. read more
As a third-time visitor to Daimaru Shabu Shabu, I can confidently say this Japanese-style, all-you-can-eat hot pot spot lives up to its popularity. It's consistently busy, even during weekday lunch, so my top tip is to join the waitlist on Google before you go! After trying a few of their soup bases on previous visits, this time we opted for the Tom Yum and the Sukiyaki. The Tom Yum was flavorful and satisfying. The Sukiyaki, while good, was a little too sweet for my palate. My favorite part of the meal is pairing the meat with the silky Onsen egg--it's an absolute must-try combination. We also ordered the basic set menu, which offered more than enough for a satisfying meal, and the Takoyaki was a delicious snack to have on the side. The meat slices are quite thin compared to other hot pot places, but it's a minor point in an otherwise great dining experience. Interior, Seating The restaurant's interior seating is a big plus. It's well-designed with a sense of privacy between tables, which I really appreciate. The atmosphere is consistently good but not a quiet place. Overall Value & Tips This is a great spot for a Japanese-style hot pot feast. The food arrives quickly after you order, and the servers are consistently attentive and efficient. We came to this hotpot location for some late night eats! Daimaru is a AYCE hotpot restaurant with delicious options and varying menus. We were out late so opted for the late menu which is discounted but has a slightly more limited menu. It was surprisingly busy for a weekday night. We were seated fairly quickly though. We opted to try the sukiyaki broth which is slightly sweet and the tomato broth which has some sweet and sour. Of the appetizers, we really like the wings. Sweet and cooked perfectly, delicious. The potato chips were not bad, more like a thick waffle fry with sweet powder on top. I was hoping for something more crispy/crunchy but it was okay. Watermelon was nice and sweet - definitely a good break in between all the hotpot. Lamb and beef were sliced super thin which is perfect for that quick cook. Shrimp and squid all seemed fresh. Some items we went back for round 2 were the bamboo shoots, kelp, beef balls. We tried tons of items - different tofus, other meats, vegetables. Everything was fresh and brought out quickly. For dessert, the ice cream was the star to finish the meal. We did try the mango pudding but it was more like pudding at the bottom and mango jelly on top? Price - for late night, it was about 40-45$ per person with tax and tip included. Not bad for AYCE. Definitely will come back if we want AYCe hotpot in the future. read more

Really pleasant spot for a meal. I've dropped in for both lunch and dinner now and it's been super consistent--it definitely hits the mark every time. The service is honestly a standout. Our server, Cary, was a total pro. He was constantly clearing away our empty plates so the table never felt cluttered (major pet peeve of mine, so I loved that). He also checked in just the right amount to make sure we were doing okay. Food-wise, you can't go wrong. The beef is super tasty and high quality. Overall just a great, stress-free experience. Daimaru Shabu Shabu is an all-day premium all-you-can-eat restaurant and a sublime choice for AYCE high quality ingredients served in a refined dining environment. Premium Waygu beef set, premium seafood, rest assured you're getting the freshest ingredients. One of the more popular choices is the sukiyaki soup base and tomato base. They also had a Tom Yum soup base which was tempting. Hokkaido potato chips were a unique menu item and the Takoyaki were very good. Jenny S was our server and took good care of us. She was very polite, attentive, always checking to see if we were fine or if we wanted anything else to order. She let us know promptly when it was nearing last call. We were given a choice to order desserts of which the milk ice cream served in a black charcoal cone was quite refreshing. The staff here are all some of the most attentive and knowledgeable people in the industry. read more
Daimaru is still one of my favorites hotpot places to go to especially for their late night menu. $32.99 +2 for weekends. The late night menu still comes with a lot of items and the soup base is included with that price. Super super worth it! It starts at 8:30 every but be sure to join their waitlist because it is very difficult to get a spot if you walk in on the weekends. My favorite is the beef brisket! They also added sirloin slices recently to the menu. They have a good amount of seating and you can request the booth if you want more space. read more

Came here with some friends during my Toronto visit - Heard this place gets very busy - so highly recommend getting yourself onto the waiting list as the line up piles up fast, one second it was no queue and suddenly you'd be 20th in line. Plenty of parking space - place it super clean and tidy from the moment you walk in. Service was on point for an All you can eat establishment - it almost felt like there was a server spying on your table, as the speed they have clearing empty plates and assisting you is like mind blowing! Meat was delicious - very fresh and good cuts - and I also like how they have the strainer in your bowl, something I haven't seen in Vancouver. Overall no complaints from me, and will likely re-visit the next time I'm in Toronto :) read more
First time trying this place out as they are currently doing a lunch special AYCE $26.99 for adults, kids 5-10 $15.99 and 0-4 is free. Seating limit is 1 hr and 45 mins. Came with a friend on a Thurs and it was still quite busy. Note: if you're coming with a group of people everyone needs to be present before they allow seating. Service was great. The atmosphere was nice, I like the tables with a booth - great for photos! The food choices weren't a whole lot, surprisingly they don't have any fish balls, wontons or dumplings- the usual for hot pot. For dessert they offer pudding and ice cream which comes in a cone and vanilla was the only flavor available. One thing I need to mention is when they come around to add more broth to the pot, it's a good idea to pay attention and see if the right broth has been added. We originally had pork bone and they added Tom yum instead. They apologized for the error and had to pour the whole pot out. Overall, it was a great meal. I would certainly consider coming back if they still have the lunch special. read more

The place is top notch when it comes to service and food selection! I wish I remembered to take pictures of everything we ate but I was too focused on getting my money's worth to do so which resulted in only a photograph of one of many desserts I consumed LOL TIP: Ensure you get on the waitlist around 5/6ish if you want to eat at a reasonable time because the waitlist goes from 0 wait to 1.5 hours within minutes :O Recommended items: -[BROTH] sukiyaki soup base is 10/10 in flavor tbh -[SNACKS] takoyaki, hokkaido potato chips (slightly sweet cheese powder on it for flavoring) -[FRESH CUT MEAT] all of them are perfectly thin but free range chicken looks to be a new addition to the menu and I have not tried it yet -[SEAFOOD] scallop, shrimp paste, crabmeat, basa fish, squid ball -[HOT POT CLASSIC] black pepper beef tongue (tastes actually like mala seasoning but I LOVED it), duck blood tofu (needs ponzusauce to bring out its flavor), spam, beef ball -[MADE FROM SOY] crispy tofu skin, fish tofu -[MAIN] udon -[DESSERT] ice cream cone (vanilla soft serve), creme brulee and order the pineapple and deep fried rice cake with brown sugar from the main menu with it :') such perfect pairings of the pineapple with it read more

Always love coming here for the excellent service, delicious and fresh ingredients, and the lively atmosphere. The late night special is great, with lots of selection! My favourite soup base here is definitely the sukiyaki, and the freshly sliced beef is 10/10! Prices have gone up recently, but I would say it is still a great deal for having a high quality meal. read more
Came for lunch menu and it was great. Food selection was great just a few items less than dinner menu but that's fine. Their meats are great, not chewy and good cut. Soup base selections are alot to choose from. Service was great. They will remind you for last call 5-10 mins before. Empty trays are taken out fast but it's probably because I was there during Friday lunchtime so it wasn't very busy. Overall, I would come back again for food and service read more
Tried this place for lunch and we got here about 15 minutes before opening. No problem getting a spot, but I can see how crowded this place can get by 1pm. Fantastic service, and I like that they have coat hangers to get the coats out of the way. You scan the QR code for the menu and let the staff know what you'd like to order. We went for the AYCE premium - but the lunch special menu looks like it would have been perfectly sufficient for my small appetite. With the AYCE Premium day, soup is NOT INCLUDED, but for the lunch special ayce, soup is included. Unsure how long the lunch special will last but I think it's very worth it. Soup bases we ordered tomato, sukiyaki, kelp and pork bone. Tomato was great - a bit of acidity and good flavour. Kelp and pork bone were pretty normal - nothing I was really excited about, but I don't normally like to select those flavours anyway. I think I always go for tomato option if it's available. My friend recommended the sukiyaki so I ordered it. It's basically like a sweet soy sauce base soup. It's fantastic for meat and noodles, but I must admit it was bit overly sweet for me. I appreciate that when they fill the soups, they use the actual soup base, not just plain broth - which always waters down the flavours. They also give us a skimming tool at each table so we can skim fat off the soup as we eat. This greatly helped my digestion because normally, hot pot can make me feel sick. I had an entire meal here and felt great! The beef brisket was fantastic. Not too fatty at all and a good fresh flavour. Lamb was fantastic too! Fish and seafood all looked really fresh and clean, and didn't have any funky smell. They have fresh fish ball/ beef ball paste mixes too which I thought were great. Chewy and bouncy. The snack takoyaki was my favourite and of course when it comes to noodles, I'm going for the glass noodles. That absorbs all the soup flavours so well. I love it in tomato and sukiyaki base. 100% would come back again. I love that theres a ton of options in each category and everything was really fresh. read more

Perfect hotpot spot! Came here for late night happy hour ayce which starts at 8:30pm on weekdays. Price is 32 per person (extra $2 on Fridays) and this includes soup base. We chose the sukiyaki and tom yum soup and both were delicious. Although not the premium set, the quality of the ingredients were great. The restaurant also feels clean with lots of private dining nooks. Good service, food, and price. Worth the trek from downtown Toronto! read more

This was my first time trying Japanese hotpot and it was really good. Everything tasted amazing and we went for the tomato and sukiyaki based. The sukiyaki base was my favourite, so flavourful! I went with my aunt who is super pick and she even liked it so that's saying something. You get to sit in these cute wooden booths and we shared one pot with 4 people. Honestly a really nice intimate vibe so a great place to take friends and family. Service was good and they were pretty attentive. It is all you can eat but you don't have an iPad with you so you have to wave someone down to make an order. I also appreciate that they make the dipping sauces for you, they give you 3 of them (spicy one, peanut one, sweet soy one) Honestly, I would give it a 4.5 star if yelp could do half stars. :) read more
We tried: Sukiyaki soup Premium Beef Brisket, Pork Belly, Lamb Shrimp Paste, Basa Fish Fillet Enoki Mushroom, Tofu, Nappa Hokkaido Milk Pudding & Creme Brulee Etc etc Veggies were fresh and meats were top notch quality. The star for me were the sauces. I highly recommend garlic soy - excellent flavor profile that most people wouldn't know how to make themselves. No issues with service.
