Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Vibe 5/5 Has been seeing this place forever on TikTok and finally got the chance to try it. If you are a fan of Japanese snacks and yakitori, you will enjoy coming over on the weekends~ Food comes out slowly but u can tell everything is made after order so im okay with it! i love their garlic beef yakitori, griller chicken wings and several of their side appetizers, some were alright but overall food was 4/5. - dont get the yakisoba, its skippable haha. But drinks were 5/5. Really enjoyed their cocktails. I got the mango ice tea with vodka, refreshing and light! They also have tons of sake options, and i love how tou can choose your own cup! Cute! Overall 4/5! Check out my channel for more content #eatwithclaw :D

Food: Absolutely incredible - everything was fresh, tasty, and perfectly prepared. I loved it so much that I came back a second time during my short visit! Service: Flawless service from start to finish. It seemed like the manager was very observant. He made sure the staff was doing their job correctly to make my dining experience was perfect. Ambiance: Super cute decor (the huge squid games doll was a great addition to the restaurant). Easily, this is one of my favorite restaurants now. I honestly dream about traveling back to Canada just to eat here again!

This is such a great spot for quick lunch or dinner date, celebrate an occasion. The decor is so unique and transports you to Japan. They have an open kitchen so you can see all the action. (Love those) and the dishes were all amazing. I have a few new faves I am still dreaming about. I loved their Wagyu stew (December special only) Wagyu Tataki, Aji fry sandwich, chicken skin, shrimp. And their bomb uni udon. The service was great too. The parking is limited outside so you can park underground and come thru the shopping centre.

The food at Kyushu is delicious & creative. The chefs put a lot of thought into designing izakaya tapas-style food with many different culinary and cultural inspirations. I appreciate it. The interior was breathtaking--the place's decoration is definitely five-star worthy. The service was also excellent. It only lost a star for being very expensive. I remember my friend and I didn't order much, but our bill was close to a hundred dollars at the end.

First off, interesting decor reminiscent of Japanese anime and I loved the concept of dining under a canopy of lights. It is spacious and has a nice relaxing vibe, a perfect escape of the weekday 9-5. Service is attentive, friendly and courteous. Servers comes to you with a smile and just at the right time (you know, not when u are busy stuffing your faces). I especially appreciated that they anticipate sharing and bring you additional little plates and bowls as they serve new dishes that may require them. Lastly and most importantly, food variety is abundant and quality is exceptional. Beer is ice cold served with frosted glass. We had a nice variety of yakitori and izakaya foods. We came back from Japan travels a month ago, and this is one of the better experiences that we do give thumbs up to service and quality. Now, on to current promos, it includes - 20% off all food on mom, wed, Thurs and Sunday - 50% off alcohol Fridays and Saturdays - $5 Sapporo pints hour (Mon, wed, Thurs, sun after 9pm)

I ordered food from this restaurant and canceled it within 1 minute but they took the full amount and wouldn't refund. It is ridiculous, what could they have possibly made or even have done within a minute. I canceled because it is absolutely freezing in Toronto and if I have it delivered to St Clair my food would be frozen. If you want food from this restaurant I suggest you go else where. It is not worth the fight to argue with these unreasonable people. A disgrace to Japanese food.

Food was solid. Decent selection. Everything was well done with precision. Very little to pick on. Uni udon could use more uni, yakisoba could use more and could use more dishes. But all in all solid. Service was good in general, responsive and quick service with great welcoming attitude. Ambiance was really great for an early dinner with family.

It's an Izakaya style, which dishes are mostly small, so you need to order at least 3-4 dishes per person and share among the group. Food is not bad but I think it's on a pricier side. But I do like their dessert , which is a green tea or hojicha tiramisu. The uni cream udon is also good for try although u can't really taste the uni. Overall, not a bad place to visit for a date or small gathering.

Kyushu yakitori set (chicken thigh, beef, pork belly)

Before, if you want some authentic Japanese yakitori uptown, you have no choice but to head to Jtown. Now, you can give Kyushu a visit and generally they do a solid job. By no means are their food perfect, but they are really 'close' if they make a few alterations. The surprise highlight of the meal was actually their chicken nanban. I haven't really spotted too many place in the GTA that make this dish. The chicken was juicy and the soy sauce and rice vinegar based sauce complemented the chicken super well. On top of the chicken was a heap of egg salad (they called it tartar sauce). For those who don't like raw onion, you may want them to scale back on the onion. This dish was definitely a pleasant surprise. I also ordered the Kyushu skewer set which consisted of a skewer of chicken thigh, beef and pork belly. From a barbecue taste, texture and the taste of the cut of the meat standpoint, I think they did a good job. Sauce wise is where they needed a bit more work. The chicken and the beef were both a bit on the salty end and lacking a bit of sweetness. The sweetness is really the secret sauce behind a lot of Japanese soy based sauce. The skewers also came with this green pepper and salt seasoning. The seasoning went super well with the beef, but they definitely over did it with the salt. On their end, they really have to consider whether to tone down the salt level for the meat, or alternatively tone down the salt level of that seasoning. I also had a skewer of whelk. The whelk had the necessary umami taste that comes from grilled seafood. Unfortunately, I didn't taste the whelk very much. Again, a bit over the top with the salt. Unless there's enough of a natural seafood sweetness, the sauce here also requires some sweetness to compensate. I went on New Year's Eve and they weren't busy at all. It might have something to do with the fact that they don't have their liquor license sorted out yet. I would have probably enjoyed some sake with the yakitoris. The service was excellent as they were extremely diligent in tapping up the water. They also came around to ask how things were and were extremely polite. I sat at the bar seats and it was definitely a bit too noisy and drafty. They must have some crazy range hood ventilation systems installed. If your napkin sat there on the counter without a makeshift paper holder, it would literary fly away. I'm usually a fan of sitting at the bar in these kinds of places, but I would recommend patrons to sit at the regular tables. I really like the ambience of the place (As a DBZ fan, I love love love how they overdid the Dragonball stickers in the washrooms), but perhaps the servers can up their collective energy level to spruce up the experience a bit. English is not a strong suit of the servers here. I tried asking them what's in that green seasoning, and I was only able to make out salt and pepper (I think it's sansho pepper) in the brief conversation. Overall, I enjoyed the meal here, but I really hope they can up their game in the sauce department for the yakitoris.

Overall, the food, service and decor were great! I would have liked to see a bit more variety on their menu. Our server was very attentive and polite, the food was brought out in a timely and proper manner. I truly loved the decor throughout the restaurant. There was the 90s anime/ cartoons/ toys scattered throughout. The string lighting made it very whimsical and warm. I loved how they had the Squid Games girl and all! They've been open for a couple of months and I'd encourage people to check it out!! We ordered a few things. Honorable mentions- the karagae chicken with egg salad and curry rice! Those were delicious!! The Beppu drink was super yummy and not pictured!

Absolutely gorgeous and relaxing ambiance. You know when the week is just dragging on and it feels like Friday already but it's only Tuesday. This is the place to go. Excellent service. Before I forget the washroom were all different themes, from sailor moon to dragon ball. From the cold section, I've tried the うずら漬け Uzurazuke Quail Egg+Spicy Chive Soy Sauce. It was flavourful, strong flavour with six pieces. 明太ポテサラ Mentai Potato Salad which is nice to balance out the palate. 刺身ックス Sashimix-Dice of Salmon and Hamachi+Yuzu Miso. Good appetizer with the yuzu miso note. Sour to open up the appetite to try different items. The bontai ebi and Salmon were fresh! We order more after the sashimi set. In terms of the skewers, the Pork, Momo, Beef sampler is good for a first timer at this new restaurant. Mind you only if you like and eat those proteins, otherwise order separately. I did enjoy the Momo-chicken thigh skewer. We ordered the A5 Wagyu -1skewer, Hotate (scallops) skewer, Shishamo Fish+Mentai Mayo, Tofu+Dashi Soy Sauce, Brussel Sprout+Dashi Soy Sauce, Pine -1skewer, Whelk+Butter Soy Sauce, Abalone+Butter Soy Sauce. The whelk, abalone, Shishamo were my favourites! The Uni Cream Udon and the Steamed Rice in Soup with Sashimix were definitely nice with some warm food on a cold day. Both were delicious! Glad we came today!

Super cozy izakaya place in North York! Loved the interior, chairs, food and service! We came on a Thursday night so there weren't too many people. Free underground parking since the ground level parking is max 15 mins? Anyways, wide selection of yakitoris but it would have been nice if they had more noodle or rice dishes. Everything was flavourful and when they asked us to do a survey for my least favorite dish, I said there wasn't one. They don't take cash, so they accept everything else :)

Kyushu set and Beppu cocktail (lime, calpico, soda)
    Janice Y.

I just came back from a trip to Japan several months ago, and this place is just as good if not better than the yakitori spot I tried there. The prices can't be compared ofcourse, especially given the currency situation. However, Kyushu currently has a 30% discount on their entire food menu, so take advantage of it while it lasts (double-check via IG if it still active)! Instead, we splurged on ourselves and spent at least 30% more. Drink prices are quite reasonable, even for the cocktails. I tried the Beppu and would recommend it; it's refreshing and not too sweet. Other worthwhile items include the chicken namban, Kyushu fries (deep-fried burdock instead of potatoes), takoyaki, Kyushu set, and tamago. I would probably skip the fried tofu; it doesn't have much flavour. While the udon is recommended and tasty, it's still not as amazing as some of the fresh udon I had in Japan. If you feel like spoiling yourself, get the A5 wagyu. I had a lovely time at Kyushu! While it's technically located in Markham, it's just a tad north of North York; you'll find it by Worldshops on Yonge Plaza (free parking). The staff was very attentive, and the food options are great. They all seem to be authentically Japanese, and our server told me he's on a travel/work visa in Canada. The interior is pretty cool and clean, with the lights, posters, and even that random doll from Squid Game.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

That's because every other guest was a well-known "regular" -- a very good sign. We were ushered through the tranquil restaurant and seated at the sushi bar, a zen ambience. We chose the $55 sushi+sashimi omakase lunch course, and it didn't disappoint. The eight pieces of nigiri featured a somewhat typical selection of fish (and hotate/scallop), but slightly edgy and unique in the choice of seasoning and flavours, prepared by Chef Takinami with all the pomp and ceremony and you would expect from fine omakase. The pacing was excellent, we never felt rushed from piece to piece; the wait staff were attentive as would be expected from a high-end Japanese restaurant, on par with omakases that cost three times as much. Overall, incredible value on the meal, for both the food and experience. We couldn't help but look around at what the regulars were enjoying (in addition to their omakase nigiri) -- botan ebi nigiri with deep fried shrimp heads, chawanmushi, cooked dishes featuring monk fish livers, tempura appetizers and more... some great ideas for our next visit!

Enter either you own info if paying separately or the same info if one person pays all of it. Lots of new dishes as well as old favourites: Chochin: Tried it. Not a fan. Tastes exactly the way I thought it would. Which is internal organ like but in an unpleasant creamy way. Duck liver raspberry toast: Nice but could be bigger. The raspberry brought an expected nice sweetness to the nice liver taste. A little more raspberry would be nice. Tuskune and egg yolk dip: It's ok but not that big a deal. Cheese momo: Fantastic. The swiss cheese is an excellent pairing to the chicken. Skin-Kawa - Delciious. Crispy. Must have, Hiza (knee cartidlidge): nice and crunchy Beef short rubs boneless: Was enticed due to the tendon part. It was nice but not incredible. Beef tenderloin + Chimichurri: Wife's favourite. We always order several of these. P-toro: Another must repeat. Great pork belly taste. Cherry tomato bacon maki: New and delightful. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes provide a delightful burst of tomatoey sweetness wrapped with the unctuousness of bacon. Lamb rib chop: Excellent and tasty. Once again everything was cooked perfectly and the amazing binchotan smoke made everything delicious. Fun fact, they put charcoal in the free water carafes as well.

Good food that hurts your wallet…read more Japanese izakayas are few and few between in Markham - that's why I got excited to see Sumoki pop up! It's not on the main street of Unionville, but its presence on a side road matches the quaint nature of the restaurant. It's not the biggest inside, but it gives off a Japanese aesthetic with the wood trim throughout. We made reservations in advance to avoid long lines, if any (thankfully it wasn't packed the night we went). Orders are made via QR code, which seems to be the norm now. I like it since you don't have to waive down waiters in a low-dimmed izakaya. Their main offering seemed to be skewers. We ordered a bunch of them to try - notably, all of them had a nice smoky fragrance to them (maybe that's why it's called Sumoki). We especially enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Skin. Perfect crunch from the initial bite leading to a slight chew throughout. The seasoning was spot on as well. Other honourable mentions include extremely succulent Chicken Thigh meat, Gizzards and Beef Tongue. You could really taste the meat juices from each skewer since the chefs don't overpower it with seasoning. Other local skewer places tend to have the same seasoning across different cuts of meat, so Sumoki felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the growing market. Coincidentally, it's also the first place I've been to offer Giant Rooster Testicles. Now...don't be alarmed. It sounds exotic and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this dish is extremely creamy. Give it a try if you have the courage! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday, but quickly realized our bill was racking up really quickly despite a small number of orders. Sumoki is definitely a place where you don't want to come on an empty stomach, since each order is 1 skewer (unlike other local restaurants). Other menu items, from what we saw of neighbouring tables, didn't fare much better in terms of portion sizes. We left quickly to avoid some serious financial damage for the 6 of us, but also quickly drove to another impromptu restaurant to get settle our hunger down. Sumoki definitely isn't cheap. I wouldn't recommend this to be a formal dinner - moreso if you wanted a light snack after dinner. But then again, with these prices, Sumoki tries to make itself bougie without delivering 100% satisfaction so maybe try at your own risk.
