While staying at the Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort & Spa at Grand Dunes, I decided to treat myself and someone else to a few of the spa amenities offered onsite. I received a mani and pedi, my traveling companion received a massage, mani, and pedi. I booked my traveling companion's services weeks in advance. I booked my services once we arrived. I called the day of my services and they were able to accommodate me, which was very appreciated. I wish I was told that I would be receiving an "express mani and pedi" because I felt my services were rushed. The receptionist never explained this to me. My nail tech had to let me know while servicing me. A bit of a disappointment, especially for the price I paid. The staff were all helpful and professional, but whenever I called the spa, my calls ALWAYS went unanswered. I always had to leave a message and wait for it to be returned and this was during regular business hours. Yes, it was always returned, but I just find that method odd and a bit inconvenient. Even when I booked the services weeks out, I had to call, leave a message and someone got back to me. Note to the spa, when customers call, we want to speak to an actual person to ask questions or book an appointment. I can understand the staff being busy sometimes, but each and every time I called? Come on! Although I enjoyed my nail tech's great conversation and bubbly personality, I don't think she did a great job. It was just average. I saw mishaps with both the mani and pedi. Speaking from someone that has frequented several spas in the past, I wasn't impressed with my services. Granted, my traveling companion loved his services, but I can only go by my personal experience. For the amount of money I spent for my services, I could've gotten much better quality at another location in my area, but I was on vacation, so you just roll with the punches. I also didn't like the fact that gratuity is already added to your bill. What if I didn't particularly think that person warranted that amount for their services or what if I wanted to add more to the tip? That practice just seems to be unnecessary. I know how to tip people. All and all, if I were to stay here again, I wouldn't return to this spa for any further services. It's not worth it, for me at least. read more

First I'd like to state that my overall rating is a 4.5, because the fire alarm blared during my massage and went on for about 10 minutes during the course of my massage and I feel like I was shorted on time and during my massage. However my over all experience was a fantastic! Was able to use a Groupon and get a same day Serenity Package deal with a 50 min facial and 50 min massage. Front desk staff was very helpful and kind, locker room was clean, beautiful and very welcoming with all kinds of luxury amenities. (Toiletries, brushes and hair styling tools) Included was unlimited use of the resort pools, sauna, steam room, locker room and showers. I was provided with slippers and a robe and headed to the hot tub to relax before going back to my services. Steam room and sauna were clean and at a comfortable temperature and there was plenty of clean towels including wet refrigerated wash cloths to keep in the steam room and sauna. Ten minutes before my services I got to hang out in the "relaxation area" which had light refreshments, tea, fruit infused water and snacks. My facial esthetician Joe was amazing and I highly recommend here (five star service) I was so relaxed and even fell asleep, a good sign of a well done facial. My massage therapist was Sarah and she was phenomenal! She was firm but gentle and really helped me feel relaxed and comfortable. We had a good small chat. I will definitely return to both of them for future services as they were both professional, courteous, good bed side manor, and accommodating to my physical needs as a plus size woman. Highly recommended for a full day of relaxation I payed about $250 for everything which included gratuity, however I did leave cash gratuity because as an esthetician myself, I know they will get taxed on that card gratuity and I don't feel that it's fair to do that. Came to the spa while on vacation; took my boyfriend to get a couples massage. He definitely enjoyed it. The spa wasn't big but we were able to hang out at the pool & hot tub after our service. The only suggestion I would recommend is the massage therapist use oil that's already warmed or have a oil warmer in the rooms. Every else was great. read more

I've been to Hibiscus Spa about 30-35 times (maybe more) over the last 5 years or so. The facilities are second only to one other spa I've ever visited- and I've been to many around the world. The only place nicer that I've found was a 'strictly for the 1%' type spa that cost several thousand bucks a day per person. At Hibiscus everything is beyond beautifully decorated, clean and stocked with indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, private suanas, steam rooms, healthy snacks and drinks and countless other amenities that you can enjoy for free just by booking a massage. It is truly TOP NOTCH! The robes they lend you are so supple and comfortable it feels as if you're a baby being swaddled by a cloud of plush Egyptian cotton. Their therapists are generally well-vetted and experienced and of course all have their own personal 'style.' Even my worst massage there was still wonderful and better than the best massage at most other spas. The place really is luxurious and AMAZING!! Suzanne (sp.?) has been my favorite therapist there so far, but I usually schedule at the last minute so we happily take whoever we can get. The only reason, and I mean ONLY reason why I wouldn't give this place 10 stars if I could is the following: On one visit I paid for a 50 minute massage that lasted 41 minutes. Not a huge deal, but still.... Well, my very next visit I booked another 50 minute massage and was assigned the exact same therapist. This time I made sure to nonchalantly work the words "50 minute massage" into my very first sentence with the therapist to make sure she knew what I was to get, but without making it too obvious to her. I think I said something like "I'm so tired I really need this 50 minutes of relaxation" or something to that affect. This time I set the timer on my iPhone as I suspected the same 'time trimming' issue might occur with her. 37:55 from the moment she walked into the room until the time she shut the door leaving after performing a very nice quality, relaxing massage. So maybe 36 or so minutes of actual massage. Now it's not just an error anymore. It's a wanton and willful act, premeditated by design and is now an establishing pattern with this therapist-as it pertains to my personal experience with her. This time I mentioned it to the cashier and additionally told her that it had happened previously with this therapist, but that I had chosen to not complain last time-because people make mistakes. She took my concerns very seriously, discounted the price to a commensurate rate for the services rendered and even an extra courtesy discount as well. I still left my standard 25% cash tip for the therapist, but was concerned because now a pattern had been established by this therapist. (*Note: this is the only therapist with whom I've ever had this issue.) Round three, a few visits later when we went, this therapist was assigned to my friend. Since I was funding the massages, the moment I saw my friend was getting this 'short cut' therapist, we timed it again. Guess what happened?? Yep. No need to expound... So I went ahead and paid in full for our massages. Then right after paying, I told the cashier that this was now the third time this occurred and while I appreciated every single aspect of their entire operation, I was very disappointed that nothing had been done about this therapist. I realize that employees will all perform in different ways and sometimes do things that may be inconsistent with the desires of management. And I'm certainly not ignorant of the standard practice of actual hands-on massage time being a few minutes short of the total allotted time, just to allow for pleasantries and walking in and out of the room. I get it. However this therapist seems to be on the fast track to cutting times in half, yet charging full fare. By management allowing an agent of their company to perpetuate fraudulent behavior serves only to undermine the tremendous amount of time, energy, effort and money they've invested in creating an otherwise incredible operation. And it truly is fantastic. I'm a customer for life, however the tourists staying in the hundreds of rooms in the hotel above the spa will probably have no hesitation in assuming the service given by this therapist is consistent with the culture at Hibiscus as a whole. I know differently as I'm a long term customer. But most folks don't have that advantage and probably won't give you a second chance. I truly hope this has been resolved, but can't be sure as I haven't seen her during our last few visits there. I really want Hibiscus to be around forever, but uncontrolled issues like this can dismantle a business from the inside out. An old adage comes to mind here and I genuinely hope the management at Hibiscus reads and appreciates this: "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link." read more

This is my second year in a row getting a massage at the Hibiscus Spa located on the bottom floor of the Marriott hotel and I will keep returning each time we come to Myrtle Beach! Each employee is so friendly and helpful and really enhance the spa experience. The facility is clean and welcoming. The locker rooms are fully stocked with towels, robes, toiletries with clean showers, saunas and steam rooms. When you walk out of the locker room to the "relaxation rooms" you really get the full spa experience - with calming music, light snacks, water and tea, comfy seats and magazines. My masseuse, Tiff, listened to what my problem areas were and personalized the massage to make it the best possible for me. Last year I got the Swedish massage and this year I got the hibiscus signature - both were fantastic. The best part is that there is a Groupon available that can be used on most treatments. Also, if you are staying in the hotel or villas you get 10% off but that can't be combined with the Groupon. Thanks to the Hibiscus Spa for being my favorite part of vacation! My daughter and I had "express manicure and pedicures" with gel polish. The service was incredibly basic. Pedicure was a brief soak, file, brief massage and polish. The manicure was a file, brief massage and polish. Our technician was pleasant and professional and did a lovely job. However, this "express" service was INSANELY over priced!! For both myself and my daughter (13) with gratuity included, it came to over $400!!!! This is a GROSS over chargeable borderline criminal. I realize it is my responsibility to check pricing and while admit I had not checked but assumed it would be a reasonable cost, based on the fact that we were at a "spa" in a resort this fee is more than triple what I have paid in the past for what the service includes...which was VERY minimal! I would caution anyone considering this service. You will not get an experience that reflects this charge...not even close. Typically this service charge at multiple salons never surpasses $30. Add the gel polish, maybe another $15. But certainly NOT $100 per manicure/pedicure- file and polish only. No soak, no callus removal, no massage, not hot wax or oil treatments, nothing extra. I would 100% not recommend. As I said before the technician was great, the issue is the gross overpricing of a simple service. read more
