Support local small businesses! Many years ago I learned about how those who grow the plants that end up at the big home improvements stores and big box stores get paid- or don't get paid. Any plants that die on site, even if the store doesn't water properly or puts them in the wrong sun/not sun spot, any returns of dead plants equates to the grower not getting paid. This rubbed me the wrong way, when I heard it. I am going to be honest- I still end up buying plants from said stores, but I do pop into various nurseries and try to support their small business. Since I broke out of apartment jail- I have plans for the house! For the yard- don't ask me what those plans are.... it's a vague concept right now. But as the young lady asked me what I wanted- ha! I want jasmine- shows me various jasmine plants! Yippee. I am thinking of maybe putting a tree in the front yard- those are in the back. Ok- I'll walk back there, or hop in the convenient golf cart with my plant guide! Zoom~ we are rolling up and down aisles of trees! John was thinking live oak which I love, but then I saw they had weeping willows! WHAT!??!!! And a weeping bottle brush! I need to do research and ask the hoa before diving into a tree purchase! I was looking over azaleas, hibiscus, sod (I need some for my front yard) and various other plants! They even had blueberries! hmmmm. Generally speaking- my thumb is green. I ended up with Jasmine and Honeysuckle and had to lay both down in my car- because they both had trellis attached and were pretty big. John caught me when I got home! In my work dress, with 2 massive plants, one on each hip. I did change into jeans before digging into the earth! I can't wait to go back for more! March should bring more varieties of flowering plants- good tip to know! And peak season will bring Sunday hours (currently closed on Sundays)- aka, March- April! This place is HUGE and they are right there to greet you and assist with anything you want to look at! read more

We hired Hickory Creek to help us design and install new landscaping for our front and backyard. Jessica came and assessed our yard, and listened to our requests and designed a rendering that presented a vision for our space. She selected plants and materials based on our preferences. She was very easy to communicate with and stuck to our budget. When it was time for installation, Troy, Adam & Danny showed up on time and were very professional. We got new sod installed, and realized how important it was to have irrigation professionals on hand to make sure all of our sprinklers were functional. Holy Moley!!! We go to a least one nursery a week. Usually the same places. As plant collectors we rarely find something different than what those nurseries always have in stock. We stopped in here today and in less than half an hour we purchased TEN plants we have never seen in another local nursery. This nursery will definitely be in our rotation from now on. Disappointed in my sod job. I should have considered why theirs was the lowest estimate. It's because all they did was cut out the old and drop in the new with no grading beforehand (hence, uneven), and with large gaps in-between. They also over-measured, resulting in almost a full pallet of unused sod. Did they do the work? Yes. But I wish the communication had been better, and the attention to detail. read more

Troy and Jessica were an absolute pleasure to deal with at Hickory Creek. We have had landscaping and quotes done by 2 other local companies. The experience we had with Hickory Creek was by far the best. Troy came out to our home and spent time walking around the yard with us to assess our needs and wants. They invited us out to the nursery to see the plants they had chosen for us and get our feedback! This was an added customer service touch that we really appreciated and did not get to experience at the other nurseries. Hickory Creek is situated on 4 acres and is beautiful to walk through! We had minor changes to a couple of the choices and it was an easy transition. Jessica did a great job listening to our ideas and concerns during the walk around. Our yard looks beautiful and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. They fit our budget perfectly. We may have been a smaller job for them to do, but they never made us feel less important. it pains me to leave less than a glowing review on hickory creek nursery. they have great products and all the staff I've met on site have been very nice and helpful. However, I recently bought two LARGE trees (35 gallon--I think). I paid to have them delivered and I requested to have them placed near the back fence. they were supposed to call me and let me know when they would deliver but they did not. I can excuse that oversight. I can't overlook that their delivery staff came very early and did not knock on our door to let us know they had arrived and they left these two LARGE trees.., one placed in front of each of our vehicles so that we couldn't get out of the driveway!! REALLY FRUSTRATING AND UNACCEPTABLE!! I called the office to make them aware of their employees terrible service. they apologized but did nothing. read more

Called on 1/11 at 3:45 to inquire about sod. Gentlemen answered abruptly. He stated very rudely "WE'RE CLOSED!" I informed him their website stated they were open till 5p. He stated,"WELL, WERE CLOSED, AND WE HAVE CLOSED AT NOON SINCE DECEMBER!" Gentleman was extremely rude and unprofessional. read more
