Their knowledge and response to my senior cat's pillow foot (podedermititis) is really great for the most part! While making the appointment, the date was set to later but they moved him into a canceled slot because of the nature of his needs and how bad it would be to let his foot get worse. We came in the next morning and he saw a doctor who had dealt with pillow foot before. She recommended oral meds and some pain killers. We had hoped for the injection to simplify things but they said they didn't carry it at all. So, we went with the oral meds. This does mean we will have to stress out our senior cat a bit more but I guess it staves off diabetes for him? I'm t not sure which is the lesser evil in this case. read more

We recently had both of our dogs in for dental cleanings and extractions, one of our dogs having also had a malignant tumor removed and the other a very large amount of teeth removed. Both times we had a smooth and easy experience. Everyone is so nice, from the doctors and techs to the front desk staff. Directions for home care are explained well, estimates are clear and extremely accurate, and the follow-up calls to check on our pets after their procedures are especially helpful - I also received a response from a doctor in both cases (within minutes) a few days after their surgeries when it seemed like they were having additional pain. I'm just blown away by how much they care for our beloved pets. We feel so comfortable bringing them here we've decided to try out the kennel in a few weeks as well. If we lived closer we would want to come here for everything but for now we will be happy to be able to utilize the kennel and hospital for dental and any other major things. We highly recommend Dr. McCourt because she performed both of our dog's procedures and was absolutely fabulous but we have met one or two of the other doctors and they have had the same level of attention and kindness. I've been bringing my diabetic dog here because they are the closest vet around and that makes it convenient for me, but I do not like them. The Techs and office staff that work here are fine, but the practice itself cares far more for money than they do the animals. When I discovered that my dog was diabetic she was extremely sick and they said that she was hours away from death and they, along with the emergency animal hospital a few feet up the road, told me to come up with thousands of dollars on the spot or my dog could basically piss off and die. If it were not for the love of my friends who donated to the Go Fund Me campaign that my friend Melissa put together my dog would have died and Hickory would not have given a sh*t less. A week before that she had to have emergency eye surgery that they added nearly $300 on to the $600 quote that I agreed to. They then stated, in not so many words, that I was a liar. This place expects you to have unlimited funds and if you do not they do not care about you or your animal. I only make $50k a year; I'm not poor, but I am definitely not rich. So I've never had a good experience at this place and I am actively seeking a vet that actually cares more about animals than they do about money. I recommend that you would do the same. read more

Hickory Vet is the absolute best. The staff treat your pets as if they are their own. Our family had to put our dog down and the staff was so compassionate, sweet, and caring. They definitely went out of their way to make his last moments special. Multiple people from the staff offered their condolences and you could tell that they are all truly genuine people. read more

THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMALS They are failed doctors and it shows They tell you your appt is at a specific times but youll still have to wait 40 minutes in your car before even anyone calls you or even answers the phone They upcharge helluvalot and only care about the money This is not the vet to go to They spaded my cat and they didnt even put the stitches on right they fell out not even two days after the surgery then when literally the stitches popped and her belly opened up I called them and they said "its fine and theres nothing we can do". Yeah ok Took her to another and they stapled her stomach and it took 15 minutes Much better than spending 1/3 of my day at the hickory vets parking lot. read more

Caring, compassionate and thorough. It's a great family-vet. And, if your pet is diagnosed with cancer, Dr. McNesby is amazing. She will talk you through it so you understand the options. And of course she can't guarantee the outcome but she does everything within her power to make the experience as easy as possible for your pet. Hickory Kennels. Twice I had both of my Weimaraner's boarded at the kennels and twice they have come home sick. This time has been much worse. A visit to the pet ER with Pneumonia. Very displeased with the kennels for not recognizing symptoms and lethargy. I would not recommend this facility to any pet owner. read more

These guys are great and came in the clutch when my mom was trying to ship our two cats to Hawaii during a recent military move. The cats were denied initially from Raleigh, NC due to expired TSA paperwork, so my mom drove them all the way back to MD to have a new health certificate made so we could attempt another flight from BWI. The same day my mom drove 5 hours to MD, Dr Silcox and his team were able to make space for an appointment so that they could ship the cats the next day. This process for TSA Health Certificates is a pain in the butt and the Hickory Vet Hospital made it look EASY! Needless to say, we are soooo grateful for their help and support to my family and to make things even better. Dr. Silcox didnt charge us a thing saying it was his way of showing support to military families and reducing the pain/stress of getting the cats all the way to Hawaii. A BIG Thanks to everyone at the Hickory Vet and my cats are safe and sound because of them! HUGE THUMBS UP!! read more

I have lived in Harford County most of my life. From childhood to adulthood I have had numerous pets. Each and every one of them has been seen at Hickory Veterinary Hospital. The staff treats my fur babies as their own; each one knows my bulldogs by name. Sometimes animals get nervous going to the doctor, mine act as if they are going to visit friends. All of the doctors have seen my dogs, but Dr. Silcox has spent the most time with them. He and the staff are highly recommended- Tank and Reagan agree!! read more

I've been taking my English Bulldogs to Hickory Vet for 6 years now. I want everyone to know they are by far the most attentive, knowledgeable, caring staff that I've every dealt with. There kennel is also great, mostly young girls that offer walks and baths and just are just animal lovers. Its great to go away knowing my dog is in the best hands. One of my dogs had cancer and Dr. McNesby gave her such great care and extended her life with quality years. This is place I highly recommend to others. read more
