I am a fifth grade student here at Hicks and I love my school. It is so much better than the school I went to before.

My kids have gone to this school and the teachers are really top notch. There is overwhelming parent and community support for the staff here. The school grounds are nice, and the new addition is really pleasant. The kids here are lucky to have such a great facility to learn in. If your kids live in the area, I would recommend sending them here. The classes are a little cramped, but that's a district/state budgetary problem. Despite that, the teachers really have it together. I've watched their interactions and I see they have a good team atmosphere. read more

Disgusting. There was dog poop all over the playing fields. They had a nice blacktop area but the fields are what's bad. They were filled with dead grass (itchy too), like how I said POOP. read more

I go to this school. I've been here since kindergarten, and am now in 5th grade. I have quite a lot to say, so you're in for a ride. First of all, you might be wondering, "why is her review so low?" Well, be patient. Okay, so let's start with my kindergarten year. I don't actually remember much, but much doesn't mean all. I do remember a specific teacher always hanging out with me since I had no friends. I don't remember who this woman was, but if you remember a short, ugly asian girl then I owe you a big thank you. I was pretty shy, and the ugly kid. Now onto first grade. I was in Mrs. Biehl's class, she was very nice. Probably the best teacher I've ever had. I'm sorry if I was annoying, Mrs. Biehl. In second grade, a lot of stuff changed. I had tons of friends now, and it was one of the best years at Hicks. (P. S., I tried to stay out of trouble and be a good, obedient kid so not much happens in these early years.) My second grade teacher was very fun, with the other kids. But when it came to me? I always had this gut feeling that she secretly hated me, but I didn't tell my mom until the summer break. Overall? It was okay. In third grade, there was this drama queen in my class. I was somehow friends with her. This class, was pretty ordinary. Nice teacher though, so it was an all in all, great year. (Excluding the drama that the girl made.) In 4th grade, it was all online learning. My grades dropped, and my teacher was literally ALWAYS gone. She had a sick daughter, but it wasn't like THAT bad. We had tons of substitutes because of this, though. This one substitute, (I forgot her name) didn't know how to do ANYTHING whatsoever. My own classmates had to help her. But we all complained to the teacher, but I still don't know what happened. I made new friends in this year, so it was still very fun. Oh sheesh, 5th grade. I don't know what to say about this year, but just read what I have to say. We got a new vice principal this year. Pretty fun, right? Wrong. She favored the 4th graders over us. Didn't take pity on anyone. She made us waste 10 minutes because we were "too loud." Lots of drama this year as well. She gave my friends MAJORS for defending another friend's sister. We censored the curse words and all, but I think that should only be a think time and a warning at most. I won't go into much detail, but the bully doesn't even get a referral or anything. We lost the evidence, but you get the visual idea of what's happening. My teacher was good at first, but after my grades started to plummet, it felt like he just hated me. But earlier, with the drama where my friends got majors. The bully told her parents, who told the school. I'm sorry, but this school just needs to look at both perspectives of the story. They tell us to always fight for what's fair, and they LITERALLY give lessons on point of view and how you should look at both. Teachers got INCREDIBLY nosy in this year. Stuff that happened over the weekend now is involved in the weekdays? Count me out. I bet that if one of my 5th grade friends complained first, the vice principal would still stick to that rude 4th grader who started it's side. Favoritism IS a thing. My teacher also has favorites, and it's so obvious. It just really makes me feel worthless. Work on how you make your students feel, mentally, Hicks Canyon. My friends were on the verge of getting EXPELLED for this thing that shouldn't have even been a big deal. Instead of meddling into students' personal lives, you can just straight-up tell them that they need to work on it themselves. It isn't that hard, it's not like you're going to get sued for 500 million if you refuse. Thank you for reading this. But maybe at Orchard Hills you're better off with no nosy teachers. read more

Our family has been a part of the Hicks Canyon family since 2011. My son was there from 2011 until he graduated 4th grade in 2015 and my daughter is a second grader, currently attending since 2016. We have had nothing but great experiences with both our kids! The teaching staff is awesome at Hicks. Both of them have had great and amazing teachers who have immensely helped shape their formative years. Even though Hicks is a public school, I have always felt like my kids got a private school education. It takes a village to raise kids and Hicks has definitely been a great source of support to us. We are truly grateful for Hicks Canyon Elementary School administration and staff, and proudly recommend it anyone who want a top notch education for their kids in a safe and secure environment. read more

wow what a beautiful school!! We came here to do the make room for santa 5k and 10k. What a great event!! It was very well organized .. great people..great staff. and wow was a fun course. it challenged me to the limit and made me push myself harder then before. Ill be coming back for next years race for sure. read more

We love Hicks Canyon ES! Our son has been there for five years. Is and we had nothing but positive experience. Great teachers who care, very involved Principal and PTO, great academic standing, fun programs, art, music, field trips, community involvement, safe and beautiful neighborhood where kids can bike or walk to school. We have been at Hicks Canyon for the past 4 years and absolutely love it. The teachers are terrific in providing a positive learning environment and multiple methods of teaching which helps all students achieve. PTO and parent volunteers provide great support to the school offering music, art and PE to the students as well as community activities with parents and students after hours (like muffin mornings, school dances and Bingo night.). The great scores by Hicks Canyon School is not by chance, it is because of the dedicated parents, teachers and staff that are involved at Hicks! read more

Our family has been at Hicks Canyon since 2011 and we've had a great 5 years at this school. Our boys have made good friends and we've had great experiences with their teachers. Despite it being a big school, we've always felt like it was a tight knit community. The technology is up to date -- every classroom has a smart board and students have access to computer labs, iPads within the classrooms. They also offer a lot of educational programs that kids can do at home as well (Lexia, ST Math, Raz Kids, etc...) and they have a great library! I would highly recommend this school! read more

We have had a great experience at Hicks Canyon with both our children. We left Hicks Canyon years back when class sizes were increased and we came back because we realized that even with the larger class sizes, the quality of the education was better than the highly rated private school we moved to with its small class sizes. The teachers we had were a great fit for both my children. We love that the teachers are very tech savvy and are continuously looking for new and interesting ways to teach. read more

Loved the school until the Principal, Mr. Montgomery left. Where did they get Mrs. Agopian from? She doesn't know how to treat children. I've heard nothing but complaints since she began. Get a real principal! Fortunately had a good experience with most of the teachers, otherwise the rating would be much lower. read more
