TW: racism and micro aggression…read more We enrolled our daughter in the summer camp as a trial for the August enrollment, but we were deeply disappointed and concerned by the discriminatory treatment we experienced as an Asian American family. On Tuesday of the second week, our daughter contracted lice at the camp. We promptly notified the school and informed them that our daughter had observed other children experiencing itching symptoms. Since our other two children attend a different daycare and no one else in our family had lice, it was evident that the infestation originated from the camp. We took immediate action by treating our daughter and keeping her home the following day to prevent the spread of lice to other children. The initial response from the school was to require clearance from a pediatrician before allowing our daughter to return, a requirement that was not imposed on other children. However, upon consulting our pediatrician, we were informed that such clearance was unnecessary. We relayed this information to the school, and they school finally relented. In addition, the school deliberately chose not to inform other parents about the lice infestation, thereby denying them the opportunity to make informed decisions for their children's well-being. We made multiple attempts to contact the school through phone calls, text messages, and emails to obtain updates on the situation. We sought clarification on the actions taken by the school and inquired if other children had been checked and removed from the class. Regrettably, our communication was met with silence. Despite assurances from the receptionist that we would receive a call back within the day, we never received any response. Eventually, the school sent an email stating that the information was confidential. Our primary concern was to understand the current situation so that we could make appropriate arrangements for our daughter the following school day. Instead of addressing our questions and concerns, the school chose to ignore us. It is unimaginable to entrust your child to a school where you are unable to establish contact for an entire day. Such disregard for communication and the mistreatment we encountered are wholly unacceptable. The prevailing demographic makeup of predominantly white students and faculty within the school, combined with the treatment we experienced, left us feeling dehumanized. I also emailed them 4 times regarding an overcharge and after 6 days still no response. If you're looking for diversity, morals, kindness and inclusivity, look elsewhere.

We were super picky about where we wanted our daughter to go - with care and safety as our #1 priority. Our daughter loves it here and we feel like she is in wonderful hands (Ms. Megan & Ms. Vivian are her teachers and Ms. Sarah greets us at the door). We get updates throughout the day with detailed summary after we pick her up. She's learning a ton and she's only 1 (Montessori work & educational songs). I highly recommend this daycare! :)

Our daughter improved so much within a short period of time and it was measurable. We have been super impressed with the teachers and the higher level of academics. Kids at Challenger School are a year or more ahead of their peers who attend highly rated public schools. While the curriculum is excellent, what we love the most about Challenger School is how much our daughter's personality has blossomed. She has become more self-confident and independent. She was super shy and had major separation anxiety issues. Now she engages everyone in conversation, and she happily participates in school performances, speaking and singing in front of a crowd of her peers, teachers and other parents. We are super proud of her progress and achievements! Challenger School is costly, but worth every single penny! However, it may not be for everyone. It is a very structured environment. You won't find any hand-holding or coddling, as they strongly encourage independence and independent thinking. They teach every student about personal responsibility. It is the student's responsibility to make sure their homework is done on a daily basis and brought to the school, and they actually want the students to do their homework on their own. It sounds crazy, but my daughter truly loves doing her homework! We consider ourselves blessed that our daughter attends Challenger School. We couldn't be happier with the school and the teachers. The cost of tuition is amazingly very low in comparison to the other private schools in the greater Austin area. The teachers are all amazing and have so much love and patience for all the students. They will be moving into their new permanent school building in July 2020 and I'm so excited to have both my kids attending in the fall!

A lot. We did all of the tours, but didn't find anything that felt like a true fit with any of the alternative schools that strictly follow one ideology. Waldorf felt too heavy, Sudbury felt too unorganized... We wanted something in between - a small school with aspects of democracy, a solid curriculum, mixed age classrooms, ample time in nature and a strong support system for the social/emotional development of each child. What we've gotten at IOS has been so much more than that. The small class sizes make it easier for the teachers to customize their lessons to each child. There's no "teaching to the middle" here. Communicating with the teachers is easy and enjoyable. The campus is straight-up magical - you have to see it to believe it. There's a creek on the property and acres of woods for the kids to explore. There are chickens, goats, guinea hens, even a donkey, that live on site. Sadly, IOS doesn't accept 35 year old 3rd graders, or I'd be all over it. It's not all about the curriculum or the democratic meetings or the farm animals the kids help care for. It's not all about the gardens they grow, the amazing community of parents and teachers or the social/emotional support given to (and subsequently created by) the kids. It's about all of it. It's about being in the conversation of cultivating human greatness with a group of families and teachers that think outside the box and truly care for every aspect of each child. There's so many reasons that I send my child to IOS, but the main reason is that I know she is Loved, Supported and Celebrated as a human when she's at school. She wakes up happy every morning, ready to get on the bus with her friends and get to school. What a gift!

It is a smaller school, and therefore you really get to know other parents and teachers. They communicate well, and use an app to send pictures throughout the day! They also offer aftercare program in case you have to work later (my kids don't want to leave aftercare). They have so much fun with learning, and spend ample time outside in the beautiful playground and covered, turfed area, oh, and a wonderful garden! I cannot say enough about the teachers and the staff, they are just true angels in earth, and we are so blessed and thankful for them. It has been a beautiful thing that they have gotten to teach two of our children, and we have made some lifelong friendships here.
