When a very large pine tree uprooted and fellin my backyard, I only had to make one call to Crystal at Higby Tree Service, and Gary was at our home within 2 hours and gave me what I considered to be a very fair quote to remove, haul off and grind the stump, just days before Christmas. I wanted the oak tree in my backyard cut down along with the other trees trimmed at my house. I contacted a few other places prior to Higby and the estimates seemed a bit high. I got in contact with Higby and Crystal came out for the estimate. She was very nice and explained what they would do with each tree and broke down the cost for each tree (as opposed to the "lump sum" estimate of other places). The crew was very professional and even stacked the wood I'm saving for a friend. They cleaned up the yard when they were finished and even blew the leaves out of the rain gutters. Highly recommended! My cat got stuck in a tree at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon...Super Bowl Sunday at that! I had a few tree services that either wanted to charge upwards of $400 because of the game or refused to come out until morning. I had a great experience working with Crystal and Gary. They gave me a great price to remove a fallen tree. Originally had it scheduled for a Wednesday but while Gary was out on another job, something came up and they had to reschedule. They were able to come by and remove the tree from the neighbors fence/yard but had to finish the job the next day. This was my personal first-hand experience when they came and delivered wood chips to my home from their tree trimming and cutting services. What they dumped in my driveway wasn't just wood chips. It looked like garbage. It's not what Higby Tree Service implied they were giving as a result of what they collect as a business. I didn't think it was going to be ornamental bark or something all decorative, but they said it would be wood chips. It wasn't wood chips; it was a ton of tree leaves and BIG uncut branches (many up to 4ft long, 6" wide), some garbage (water bottles, paper, candy wrappers, etc), a ton of soot & ashes, and much more. The deeper in the pile I went to sort it out, the more misc materials I found. They also said it would only be a few yards worth yet when they came so early in the morning that day (before we got up to send off our kids to school) they had dumped enough to cover up almost our whole driveway with the pile. We contacted them the next day about it, sharing our frustration, and they only met us with defensiveness, discontent and denial and would not come pick up or take back any of the pile they had left. We shared this experience in an online community group where we first saw their ad for the wood chips and they started bullying us. They called us whiners and said we shouldn't complain because it was a free delivery. Free delivery or not, when doing business with a recipient of their services, professionalism and good customer service should always be a priority. We did not receive that from this company and felt we needed to share our personal experience with others. Is that the customer service you want from a company if there are problems? This past Friday my husband called me at 5pm and told me a tree had fallen from the neighbors and that some of it was on our roof but the main tree was caught up on the branches of another one next to it causing the downed tree to hang ominously over our house. Myself and the neighbor started Googling tree services and calling everyone, however no one would answer or they would just be closing or spread too thin from the 4th of July holiday and could only get someone out the next morning. Gary's number was on the list and as soon as I told him what happened he was at my house in about 15 minutes and stayed until 11pm that night trimming the branches that hung over my house and secured the tree. He even missed a friend's birthday party to stay and help us. He came back the next morning and took the rest of it down and spent about 7 hours that day finishing the job.
